  1. Just tried this formula and the wife and kids love it. Gonna give a few samples out at work and get some more comments. I used Coaco butter in place of the Kokum and added some Pomegranite FO.
  2. I found this in the store the other day. Think it is ok to use, but want to run it past you all before I mix up a batch. It is non-alcohol flavoring. Found it with the extracts. Ingredients are Castor oil, flavoring, and vitamin E. Was $2.50 for a 2oz bottle. I should be able to add some sweetener and be good to go, right?
  3. Some good ideas here. I like it! We have been using old ice cube trays to pour excess wax into. The wax cubes are either stored for reuse or put in a bin if they are dirty. Have not made any firestarters yet, but I will probably give it a try this summer. We go to estate auctions a lot and get all kinds of kitchen stuff. Been using the cookie sheets and cutting boards as well as a couple of the double boilers we have found.
  4. Thats what happens when I do math at 3am.
  5. 1oz of FO into 16oz wax = 1/16 Using the calculator we divide 16 into 1 and we get 0.0625. To make that a percentage, simply move the decimal point 2 spaces to the right which gives you 6.25%.
  6. They are aluminum. Pretty light for the size. Couple of the smaller molds made of the thin stuff we are sued to have been damaged at the top. Looks like the prior owner could not wait and tried to get the candles out of the mold before they were ready. Some bending at the top edge where a knife was placed in to pry the candle loose. Good thing most are new, would be a shame if all were like that.
  7. Thanks for the replies so far. We are a bit curious as to the value of both mold itself and a candle that would come from such a monster. I thought it was a hurricane vat at first, but all the molds have a hole for wicking in the bottom as well as the notches up for holding the wick stick. We got 4 boxes of molds including 8 big ones and 20 or so more common sizes, most new in the box. Got a couple bags full of scents and dyes, but they have been in storage for at least 2 years and I am unsure how good they are. Got 4 pour pots, couple double boilers, 20+ pounds of wax, and 7 books. Our stock of candle making supplies more than tripled with this purchase. Lots of fun to last us through the coming winter for sure.
  8. We got a bunch of candle making stuff at an estate auction last week and in the lot are a number of these freaking huge candle molds. The one in the image is 17 inches tall, 6 inches wide and made of 1/8 inch thick aluminum. We have a smaller round, a 4 inch square and a few others all the same height and construction. We have been looking to find these for sale to get an idea as to value, but have come up empty. Anyone know a ball park figure as to value?
  9. If you have a natural grocery nearby, chek them out. Local shop up here carries Citric Acid for a reasonable price. They also carry some oils and EO's, but they are spendy and I only buy when in dire need. If you local shop doesn't carry it, they may be able to special order some for you.
