  1. I should have said - these are container candles, but, they do not have lids. So, should I cover the candle while it is curing - cling wrap or similar?
  2. I am a relative newbie, and I've searched previous posts, but, can't find this info anywhere, so, thought I'd post the question. How do you cure your candles - we you keep them in a sealed container, open on a shelf - also, should I be keeping different fragrances separated while curing - will they absorb fragrance from the other candles? Also, what temperature should I be aiming for - does it take longer to "cure" when it is colder - and will curing in a cold area promote frosting? Thanks in advance
  3. I am a newbie here - just making candles for personal use/gifts - so, have been reading all the advice. I have been testing, in my small batch way. I am using C-3 wax, FO from Just by Nature at 1oz per 1lb, and HTP wicks. I am looking for some advice in what is considered an ideal meltpool. Initially I was using HTP83's in a 2" in jar, and when it burnt, i was still getting 1/2 rim of wax left all round (sorry for not knowing the "right" terms). So, I tried using a HTP92, and the onlt difference was it burnt down more quickly. Am I mistaken in thinking I want the meltpool to be all the way across the top of the candle? I'm happy to test & test, but, it would really help if I knew what I was aiming for LOL The other problem I am experiencing with all my wick sizes, is that the tip of the wax curves as it burns (but, no mushrooming), which pushes the meltpool off centre - I was wondering if switching to CDN wick's may help. I am using C-3 wax, heating to 175, adding Fo & dye chip (1 per pound), pouring slowly into slightly heated jars at 165. I don't seem to be experiencing wets spots or much frosting, the candles do end up a little 'dipped" on the top, but, trying to do a littel second pour just makes them messier, so, I leave them as a single pour. I'd appreciate any tips, I'm not trying to avoid testing, but, I amade the mistake of buying a big variety of styles/sizes of jars, so, being steered in the right direction would help.
  4. I'm a relative newbie to candle making - and making it more difficult on myself by starting straight away with soy wax. There really is a wealth of information on the forums here so I have been reading avidly and in the spirit of teh forum, testing wicks, and pour temps etc. I do have one question that I haven't seen addressed - all the candles i have poured seem to be pastel/pale colours. I am using Poulette colour chips, in C-3 wax. I am using at the recommended ratio of one chip per 1lb of wax. I am reluctant to increase this amount, as I am concerned about how it will affect the burn. Any recommendations for strong/rich/dark colors using soy? My candles are only for personal use/gifts - so, no competition to the sellers on the list. thanks in advance for any comments.
  5. Answering myself here - Wick Centering Toold for containers, www.wickcentering tool.comm this also lists the suppliers, it includes Just by Natute, Green Leaf Candle Supply & BitterCreek. (just a little off-topic- are there "two" BitterCreek candle companies? I see references here to BC (bittercreek?) & BCN (BitterCreekNorth)?
  6. Thats exactly it - now to find me a name and a supplier............
  7. Whilst "wandering" around various candle making supply sites, I saw a nifty tool for centering wicks - now I can't remember where it was. AS this is a particular problem I seem to have, I'd love it if someone knew where I could find this.
  8. I am a relative newbie to the art of soy candle making - I know there is a whole world of fragrances out there to try - I'm looking for suggestions on what you love personally, what sells well for you, even what you hate. I'm leaning towards buying my first lot from Millcreek or Peaks so am particularly interested in hearing opinions of their FO's. My candles are only for personal use, and the occasional gift, so, buying two or three oils from lots of diffrent companies doesn't seem too feasible. I am using C-3 container wax, using HTP wicks. Thanks in advance for all comments
