  1. I did add my fo pre lye and I have checked my scale.....5 quarters= 1 oz. right? So I don't understand what happened. What causes it to crystalize on top. Is it the lye rising to the top? I stick blended it so I know it was blended good. I tossed the first batch and will probably toss this one. Anyone know what I did wrong? The weird thing is I have made this recipe before and have used the same lilac fo and no problems so I don't understand.
  2. Hi all, I posted a couple of days ago about my soap ricing. Well this is the second batch I have made this week that didn't turn out. The last one I made is the same recipe I have used for a long time with no trouble. Temp was around 110 for oils and lye. I used lilac from brambleberry and used full water. It started to rice and I stick blended it until smooth and poured and today when unmolded it had a few little bumps on top but the sides were smooth. The top had like sparkles on it, like when you look at the snow and the sun is shining it sparkles. I think it is lye crystals because it zapped. Why is this happening? And can if I leave it for a few days will it be ok? Even if the zap goes away I am scared to use it now. This has never happened to me before. I am getting frustrated. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
  3. Now that I am looking at it closer it does look like oozing liquid but they are drying up now and almost look like ash. Hummm. Maybe I will try to get a picture. Thanks
  4. Maybe it was acceleration I'm not sure but what worries me it it looks sorta like crystals on the top and it zapped me. The inside is smooth. Should I just wait a few days and see if the zap goes away and if it does is it ok?
  5. Hi everyone, Well last night I think I experienced ricing. I make cp soap and never had this happen before. It started to look lumpy when I was pouring it. I did the zap test today and it definately does zap. The inside looks smooth but the top looks like it has crystals on it. That is the part I put my tongue on. Anyway is it time to learn how to do my first rebatch or will it be ok once it is cured? Thanks for any help.
  6. Hi all, I was wondering how you store buttermilk and goatmilk powders. How long is the shelf life? Do I need to store them in the fridge? TIA

  9. Hi, I am thinking about getting the small log mold and it says it holds 2.7 # of wet soap. Does that mean I need to add my oils, lye, fo's and any additives? Or does it mean just the oils? TIA Deb
