  1. What about putting them on a cookie sheet (cover it with foil if you want) with sevral layers of paper --- paper towels, newspaper --- and putting in a warm oven --- low temp, you want to melt the wax off without setting the paper on fire or melting your tools. Let the heat melt off what it can, then remove each item and wipe quickly with paper towels. HTH!
  2. Dryer lint makes an excellent firestarter --- ask all the firemen who've put out laundry room fires! Seriously, people do use dryer lint, and if you've got sawdust you've got a great beginning. You can get a cheap supply of paper cups, and pour into those, then you don't have to worry about a mold, burn the cup and all. Just fill your cup with the sawdust/lint/whatever, stick a piece of wick in --- I'm sure you could find something else, but you know it will work --- and pour over with whatever wax --- most people again go cheap here, too. Let harden and you've got firestarters. Velveeta boxes, shoeboxes, pringles cans --- all would would give you a loaf shape. Punch holes in the side of the pringles can to thread wicks in, then just cut up the can when set. If you google handmade firestarters, I'm sure a ton of 'recipes' will come up! HTH!
  3. I was just in the area last weekend --- I was SO hoping the move would have been done but nope, just missed it. I'll have to wait until spring before I'm up that way again!
  4. Wow Leisa, where do you find FOs at $1 a lb ? :tiptoe: Boy, wouldn't that be a great sale !
  5. Makes Scents Candle Supplies --- Pataskala, OH www.makesscentscandles.com east of Columbus, right off I-70.
  6. Do you have a GFS nearby? Try there!
  7. 128 oz is the fluid oz for a gallon. Try this: 7# is the weight of a lot of oils per gallon 8# is the weight of a gallon of water Depending on the % of water in the recipe, you should be able to come close with these numbers ex: 50% water lotion --- approx 7 1/2# not exact, but I think it would be close. HTH!
  8. After The Rayne carries them: http://www.atrsupplies.com/bailjar.htm
  9. Stacie: FYI --- 10 "working days" IS 2 whole weeks --- think Mon-Fri I'm not defending slow service, but if you were told 7-10 business/working days, they delivered "on time". 7/16 to 7/28? Just so you don't worry too soon when waiting on other shipments. BTW: "no refunds unless they screw up the order" --- any supplier who doesn't tape liquid lids of any kind, esp. in summer with high temps. IMO does "screw up the order". My pet peeve Candlewic has a Tranquil Breezes --- no description, might be worth a phone call to ask about it. Here's their #: 800-368-3352 Royal Aromatics will make custom blends/dupes. If you can find some of the scent (EBay?), check with them to see what they can do. HTH!
  10. Hi all, Just had this discussion with experienced soapers at the OH/KY soap gathering. We had a pallet delivered from Columbus Foods and I was helping to sort the orders (and asking questions) If you got the bucket, you have the palm that must be stirred. You will definitely want to stir it well, then put it in smaller containers. Next time you order, you really want the no-stir, homogenized palm in the 50# cube. They will act the same, but the cube is so much easier to deal with. (This from 3-4 different soapers, when I asked about the difference) They are both solid if the temp is cool enough. Like Rebecca said, if it separates, then solidifies, you would need to melt the whole thing to stir it up --- UGGGH!!! HTH!
  11. I'm new to it too, but you'll want some of these oils: palm kernel oil --- PKO palm oil coconut oil 76 or 92, not fractionated --- you can buy this at Super WalMart, look for LouAna brand olive oil --- you can get this at the store, too Other oils you can find at the store: canola sunflower safflower soybean lard --- yep, pig fat, makes great soap You might also want some stearic acid, or palm stearic --- helps harden soap when you use soft oils and butters HTH!
