  1. Hi, all I am looking to purchase chrome caddies that will hold a lotion and hand wash. I can find all kinds of baskets, but I cannot find small two-bottle caddies that will sit next to the sink. Does anyone have any ideas or info about companies that sell these? Thanks, so much for your help.
  2. Stephenie Brown at Nature's Herbal Health & Beauty in Birmingham, AL. Just checking. Thanks.
  3. Been trying to access this website, but can't get to it. Anyone know why? Thanks
  4. I read the sticky above. Very good information. So, which paraben-free preservative do you use? I'm leaning towards Optiphen Plus. Would like to hear your thoughts on this. D.
  5. Hi, CareBear... There are a number of oval molds in various sizes at www.goplanetearth.com under molds, basic shapes. For this tin, I would use the Guest Size Oval Contour Top.
  6. I've always had a problem trying to professionally package my lotion bars. My bars are either oval or rectangular. They don't fit into the round tins sold by most manufacturers. I also need a tin that is deep enough (at least 1" deep). Does anyone know where I could buy something like this? I have found a manufacturer that will sell me 9,000! They measure 3.35 x 2.24 x 1.5 deep. Exactly what I need. I'm still waiting on a price, and I've asked them if they could cut down the required minimum of 9,000. I'm wondering if anyone else out there might be interested. If so, I will do a co-op once I have all the information.
  7. I'm interested in making a lotion bar that does not have beeswax or soy wax in the ingredients. My testers complain that these lotion bars feel very waxy. My standard receipe is 2-2-2 (2 oz. beeswax, 2 oz. shea butter, and 2 oz. apricot kernel oil). Any ideas? Thanks!
  8. I ran the above past a Thompson rep, who insists this is not correct and that ALL merchants will be required to be PCI compliant by the end of the year... that it will be the merchant's responsibility. Who knows? I sure don't.
  9. Pam, I am with you. As a customer, I like to pay straight out of my bank account with PayPal. This is because I try (often in vain) to keep my credit card balance down. At this time, I offer Mastercard, Visa and PayPal. Even with these different payment options, I would have to say that the majority of my customers have been using PayPal. Islandgirl, I have not experienced the problems you mention, but it certainly gives me something to think about. Thanks for your input.
  10. I received the below email from my web host people. It appears this may have been a scam run by 1st National Processing. I am NOT surprised, as they had once before started charging me for something I had not authorized. "I just got off the phone with my merchant services provider. I wanted some definitive answers about the PCI compliance thing that you had posted about--and how your provider was insisting on a $20 a month scanning fee. The rep at my provider said that we, as level 4 merchants, are NOT required to do anything. He said that if your provider is going to charge you that monthly scanning fee, then they are just trying to bilk money from you! I told him that I thought you had a brick and mortar store too (since you said you accept cards in person as well) and would that make a difference? He said that being that you make card-present transactions as well, then you are at LESS risk for PCI compliance and have less to worry about. He knows I use Authorize.net as my payment gateway, as I think you do also, and he said that is PCI compliant because the CC info is not collected or stored on our websites, thus we are already PCI compliant and have no issues. Just wanted to share this with you as soon as I got off the phone. Hope it helps."
  11. Is there anything wrong with quitting accepting credit cards on my website and just accepting PayPal? What are the drawbacks, if any?
  12. Thompson says I can switch from 1st National to Chase. Chase is not yet charging a compliance fee. Thompson says that by the end of this year ALL companies will have to do this, because Mastercard and Visa are requiring it. Thompson is searching for a scanning company that will not charge as much as the one 1st National is using. So far, the cheapest one they have found is charging $150 a year. If I go to just accepting PayPal on my website, I will not have this problem. PayPal is already PCI DSS compliant. This is a thought, and one I need to think about. Another consideration for taking cards in person is ProPay: Accepting credit cards through ProPay is a fraction of the cost of what I'm paying Thompson -- only about $35 a year.
  13. According to Thompson, Chase is not yet charging any compliance fees. These fees are coming from 1st National.
  14. I just got through reading these posts (which are pretty old). I'm stunned. I have done business with Mabel White several years ago and never had any problems. We became email friends and communicated fairly regularly. There was something about her that I could not quite put my finger on... something not right. She was up, then she was down. She had grandious plans for various business ventures which never panned out. She made herself look really bigger than life -- she was going to marry some tycoon from Canada, then he seemed to disappear -- she was going to sell her million dollar home, but she is still there. I could go on and on. I had actually come to the conclusion that she was a manic depressive. Looks like my radar was right on target. I had no idea about her past. She is currently involved in another business venture where she has solicited reps to sell her product line. I fear for them. Or... maybe its just another one of her grandious schemes and all make believe.
  15. I use Thompson Merchant to accept credit cards in person and on my website. I've just received a letter from them (or from 1st National Processing) that I am required to become PCI DSS compliant. Something to do with scanning my system(???), and that in June they will start charging me the "preferred monthly rate" of $19.95 for this scanning service (in addition to my monthly fee I already pay)!!! Are all merchant credit card companies doing this? Can anyone please explain this to me in terms that my small brain can understand? I called customer service at both 1st National and Thompson Merchant, but they weren't very helpful other than to say it is what it is. If this is the way it is, then I will have to stop accepting credit cards.
  16. Does anyone have a recipe to make a solid hair conditioner? Thanks
  17. I could be wrong, but I'm wondering if you had your container twisted all the way down before you poured. I recently received a sample of the Honey Bee from SS. It really does smell wonderful. It's similar to her Buttermilk Honey.
  18. I made Bunny's Bootilicious Body Butter (I can't believe I had all the ingredients). I'm not too sure about the way mine turned out. It looks very dull (not shiny like I thought it would be). I think I whipped it too long, as it is kind of fluffy. And it doesn't have the "slip" I wanted. Can anyone diagnose these "symptoms"?
  19. I heard recently that the process of obtaining palm oil is adverse to the environment. What can I use to replace this ingredient in my soap recipe? My tried-and-true recipe is this: Coconut oil Palm oil Canola oil Olive oil Shea butter Anyone have any ideas for me? Thanks, in advance.
  20. I don't think lye ever goes bad. Are you sure it's not your fragrances? Have you used these fragances before without any problems?
  21. I'm proficient at making CP soap. Tonight I was going to try my hand at making cream soap. I just read my recipe, and have decided I don't understand it! This recipe uses a combination of KOH and Sodium Hydroxide (for the lye). The instructions say to "Melt hard oils and butters till fluid. Add to lye water." Is this correct?? I add the oils to the lye water? I'm used to adding the lye water to the oils. Does it matter? AND... there is no mention of temperatures (cooling the lye to, say, 98 degrees). Can someone please advise me. Thanks!
