  1. You watch...the price for shipping will go up too at all theses suppliers. It is coming down to....Making candles is way too expensive and the profit margin is really not worth it when you factor in your time and shipping.
  2. I have been making candles and selling them for years. But I have come to a fork in the road with the pricing of so called wholesale supply houses and the shipping that these people charge. it's really too bad...they have to make such a profit on not only the product they are selling but making a profit from shipping. I have been around the block with shipping items my entire life with our family business and there is definetly a problem with most supply houses like wax products. Come on you suppliers who read these boards don't tell me you aren't making some coin on shipping. I ship every single day and If these guys are smart and want to keep a customer base and business they really should consider looking for alternatives in shipping OR the way they do business. Just my two cents. I am ready to take a whipping from all you loyals...who are making these people money. And they aren't doing anything but giving you cheap prices and make up their cost with shipping. I have already bailed from the candle business. It was good about 10 years ago...but not now. Now i see peaks offering 25% off shipping. I rest my case!
  3. You have one pound of dry not melted paraffin wax it will yield approx 20 oz of liquid when melted. Soy approx 18...I pound of palm wax 18 or 20 oz. forget it I'll just melt a pound and find out. This ain' rocket science...but thanks anyway.
  4. Thanks for the info. I am going to try it for containers.
  5. do you get 20 ounces of palm wax when melting a pound or 18 ounces. yeah I could measure it and probably will...The only reason I ask is I just wanted to know how many ounces so I don't screw up my figuring when pouring a batch. I didn't think this would be such a mystery.
  6. Eric of einstein...How MANY ounces of melted wax(Palm wax) do you get when you melt one pound! With paraffin you get approx 20 ounces from one pound of melted wax....with Soy you get approx 18 ounces...would you get approx 18 or 20 ounces of melted liquid? hellooooo...a foot is a foot...an inch is an inch a mile is a mile...a cork is a cork
  7. Murry top of the hill help? Nobody is getting this?
  8. Has anyone ever mixed pillar paraffin with soy and if so what were the results./Thanx
  9. I am talking about liquid volume. Soy usually yields about 18 ounces of wax for 1 pound of wax. paraffin approx 20 ounces. When one pound of palm wax is melted down...how many ounces?
  10. When you melt one pound of palm wax do you get 18 or 20 oz. I know soy is approx 18 and paraffin 20. Thanks never really took the time to measure.
  11. Are you sure the wax is for pillars and not container soy?
  12. I use clear liquid Nails. Cheap and it workd geat!
  13. Anyone using the 4794 for containers...I would like their opinion using this for containers. I haven't checked but is this parafin and would it need a second topoff for containers? Thanks
  14. I have ordered a lot of samples from Just Scents and I can tell you they are weak!!! I orderd probabaly 30 scents and I find it hard to find ONE111...that gives a decent HT or CT...Just my opinion...but I would never buy from them AGAIN!! Their shipping is fast but who needs it....I remember one Xmas I was in a dool over Xmas scents...so I ordered and I was not impressed in the least. I would not even sell what I had poured...I keep a pretty high standard for scents and they just lost my vote. I had better HT and CT from Bear...and Steve from Bear is decent about his product...selection sometimes is very slim...but for HT nd CT....my money is on Him for most of his fragrance oils...Cheers
  15. I am not trying to bad mouth a supplier one way or another... But when I started out making candles a few years back...I started with BC and I have always found their prices at least for me a little higher than most...of course you have to take in consideration where you live and shipping charges which is really the bottom line with me...But still I am in Iowa and they are in Wisconsin...you would think shipping really wouldn't be that much...Now I have a supplier in Iowa and there isa significant difference.
  16. Thanks everyone for all of your replies...First of all I bought the rrds pre tabbed...That's why I could figure out the directional thingy...I plan on using the wicks for a 7.5oz tumbler and an 11 ounce...I just hope they work well with palm and soy...Thanks for the info. Cheers
  17. Ok....I thought I had rrds to begin with..obviously that wasn't the case...That's what I orderd and the label on the package said so...But that is not what I got! And I had never used this type of wick before. So when the wicks came I freaked out!!! to say the least...What are you talking about when you say mark them before you cut??>?? Am I missing something????? thanks/Cheers
  18. Hi everyone I have been using hpt wicks...I ordered a series of all RRD wicks and when I received them I freaked out!!!!. These wicks seem soo small in comparison to the wicks I have been using for soy and palm wax. Even the largest 55 doesn't even compare with my flat wound wicks as far as size goes...How are these good for soy and palm waxes...It seems that they won't develop and good melt pool being so small...I have'nt tried them yet. I'm thinking I might have to double wick depending on the burning performance. Please advise. Thanks
  19. A BIG THANKS to everyone!!! I really appreciate all the information...Again Thanx!!
  20. Greetings!! I hate to say it...but I lost my supplier who I have for years been doing business with...I only use frosted tumblers...preferably 7.5 or 8 ounce and 11 ounce....I have searched my A-- off on the internet and can't seem to find anybody who carries this item...I find a lot of smaller votive sizes and even flowerpots but that's not what I am looking for...What is it with these suppliers that don't carry frosted tumblers???? And why can all the upscale candle manufacturers get them? If someone could help me find a supplier I would really appreciate the info...Thanks
  21. Not to be critical, but why put the label on the bottom of the candle...it looks kinda weird to me.
  22. Sorry I think I responded to the wrong thread...duh!!!!!!
  23. Just good example of making money on shipping. I find this a lot...the prices for items are very reasonable....so they don't make a lot on the product...but the shipping profit is guaranteed. If I were you I wouldn't order from them and when business falls off...they'll contact you and email you to death. Pretty SAD to say the least
