  1. I was wondering if anyone has had any luck with the JS Vanilla Patchouli in soy... I was thinking about giving it a try tomorrow but would love to know if it's worth the effort if someone else has tried it already. It seems like a scent that should be in soy to me. Thanks
  2. Wow, thanks for the photo. I guess I was thinking red because of the berries but green does make more sense. I have so many red holiday scents already that a green would be nice. Thanks for the input.
  3. Tonight I'm working on some lavendar vanilla votive (w/chunks). It's my first votive chunks (thanks to Deb for instructions). I'm also trying out some new scents - Candlescience Cranberry Marmelade, Green Tea & Lemongrass and Mistletoe. I'm I'm also test burning some jars with JS 50/50. Hopefully, I'll have some good results to post by the end of the weekend.
  4. Thanks for the input!! I'll give green a try. Kristen
  5. Hi, Just wondering what color people are doing for mistletoe... I tried red but it came out more mauve-colored b/c it was soy, which wasn't bad, but I'm wondering if green is a better color. What do other people do? Thanks Kristen
  6. Awesome, thanks. BTW, where are you in Virginia? I'm in Richmond but used to live in NoVA.
  7. Hi, For those of you who use the JS 50/50 blend, how much FO do you use? I didn't see the specs on their site and this is my first time using a blend. Thanks for your help. Kristen
  8. This is what I've been using for votives and I add about 5%, which works for me. I really like this wax :-)
  9. I can't believe how much time this is going to save me. I'm very excited to try it out tomorrow. I just got a package of the JS 50/50 so I'll test it out using this method. Thanks!!!!!
  10. I was just reading an old post that mentioned that you can rewick a test container candle. I am very excited about the prospect of doing this since I am burning about 10 different jar/wick combinations right now. Can someone explain to me how this is done? Thanks so much.
  11. Hi, I have a big newbie question... in general, do you wick up or down for soy? I realize it all depends on wax, scent, etc... but just as a general starting point, is it the same as parrafin or more one way or the other. Thanks
  12. Thanks for the input, everyone. I was away for the weekend and didn't have time to post but I poured a couple of testers before I left and I'll post the results tomorrow.
  13. The 8 oz. tureen jar is giving me a major headache. Has anyone had any luck wicking it? I've tried soy and parrafin waxes and all sorts of wicks. The flame is really high and jumpy on all of them and I'm also not getting a good melt. I poured some new ones today with bigger wicks - I think LX-24s in EcoSoya Advanced. I saw an old post that mentioned double-wicking it. Is anyone really doing this? It seems like a small jar for two wicks. Thanks! Kristen
  14. I think I may have actually had some luck with parrafin this time. I used IGI 4794, poured @170, repoured @180. These are eggnog scented. I tried 2 wicks and the LX-14 seems to work best. Those are the photos below. I didn't level the bottoms yet so I think that's why there is a bit more wax on one side. I will try burning another tomorrow after I level it. Please give me feedback if you see something wrong that I don't see. One more question... I used wick pins and when I took the pin out there was a very thin break in the wax at the top of the votive where the pin was. I tried to take a photo of it but it's so small that it didn't show up in the photo. Does anyone else get these lines in their votives? Thanks a lot. This website is so helpful!! I edited to add a photo of votive pre-burn.
