  1. To get the decimal equivalent of a fraction, divide the top number by the bottom number.
  2. On the rare occasions that I do buy candles, I make sure they're made in the U.S. Usually, the quality is better. This description for a Jante candle says: 12 oz Jar. Lead free wicks & fragrance made in USA. Made in Vietnam.http://www.walgreens.com/store/product.jsp?CATID=304800&navAction=jump&navCount=0&id=prod2630175
  3. http://www.freecycle.org/ is one way to get rid of them. Another option would be to take them to one of those packing/shipping stores.
  4. FO sitting or being mixed into wax for a few minutes isn't going to cause the scent to burn off or evaporate at a rate that's noticeably going to affect the throw of the end product. The reason you use FOs that are made for candle making is because they're formulated to withstand the heat. Some FOs need to be added at a higher temp for the wax to absorb them.
  5. If you're not labeling the candles immediately, at least do something to identify them once they've been poured. I've got several candles that I can't even identify by color or scent. Now I always have a piece of paper with the scent name in the box the candles are cooling in. When I remove them I stick a piece of masking tape on the candle(s) with the scent name.
  6. If you have Microsoft Office, open the picture using the Microsoft Office Picture Manager. You can crop, compress, fix the colors, and remove red eyes too.
  7. I wasn't able to get Oxygen to blend in J50. That's probably the fourth FO from as many suppliers that's given me that problem. I don't blame anyone for it. Every FO isn't going to work my wax, or any other wax. It might not blend, it might turn the wax an ugly color, it might not throw... That's the reason for testing. If an FO doesn't work out for me in candles, I try to find another use for it, or sell it.
  8. What temperature is the wax when you add the FO? I'm wondering if you're adding it at too low a temperature.
  9. Those terms don't mean a thing. Scent throw is not determined by the amount of FO used to make a candle. Scent throw can't be measured by smell either because it's subjective.
  10. Sounds like you don't have your cookies enabled.
  11. I've used them. The large tab is to keep the wick centered in the mold.

  14. Don't let yourself get confused by what other people think. Use what works well for you and results in a candle that makes your customers happy.

  16. I think it's irresponsible to promote candles as a light source for emergencies. Even the feds don't tell you to use them, they say to keep a flashlight and batteries on hand. http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/nationworld/nation/wire/sns-ap-chicago-fire,1,4587999.story?ctrack=1&cset=true http://www.ready.gov/america/getakit/index.html
  17. Not all soap is really soap according the the FDA. If your soap doesn't meet the FDA definition of soap, it must be labeled as a cosmetic. http://www.cfsan.fda.gov/~dms/cos-toc.html http://www.cfsan.fda.gov/~dms/cos-215.html
  18. Ky Vicki has a great Amaretto. I've never tried an Amaretto Nog, so can't help you there. http://www.kycandlewaxsupply.com/index.html
  19. Candles when dining should be for the visual ambiance, and not an aromatherapy experience. http://www.wedding-club.com/weddings/articles/seethelight/
  20. 21 samples packed can easily weigh over 2 lbs. One oz. of FO in a plastic bottle weighs 1.3 oz. Multiply that times 21, and you get 27.3 oz., which equals 1.70625 lbs. Add a box and packing, and there's 2+ lbs. The shipping rate for that up to and including 3 lbs. would be the same, which would explain the charge for 3 lbs.

  22. You could try reducing the amount of FO more, maybe down to .8 oz/lb. A good FO can still throw quite well at that amount. If that doesn't work, you could try reducing the amount of or eliminating the soy, since soy can sometimes require hotter wicking than paraffin. Another option would be to use a smaller container.
