  1. Here I am again, frustrated with the palm wax! Got the courage to try again, and some of the candles came out with a little coaxing - but the 6" ones started to slide out, and then there seemed to be a suction keeping them from getting past the top of the mold - major ugh! Finally they came out after I heated water and soaked them for a couple minutes - but they are just not smooth (no wonder, I drowned the poor things!). Going back to the regular natural pillar blend. When I recover from this episode, maybe I'll try to mix the palm with the regular soy blend pillar to see if that might work. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
  2. Thanks for the advice - I got so frustrated with having to dip the mold into hot water to release it from the mold - and then the outside of the pillar was affected by the "dip" - so I've gone back to the regular veggie pillar wax. I'll hopefully get back to the palm wax because I like the look so much. I have ordered some of the feathered type palm from another company, and I'll see how that works out. Thanks for all your help.
  3. Bev, that sounds like a great idea! Have a great day!
  4. I think that would be great! How in the world would we start? I coordinate conferences for the company I work for, but I've never put on a show. My guess is that I would contact some of the vendors and see if they would be interested in sponsoring an event, and then arrange a place to hold it. Would take a lot of coordination and work, but I think it would be worthwhile. What do you think?
  5. For Mother's Day, I'm going to order some of the sale FO from Just Scent, and some buy-1-get-1-free molds from Candlewic - - gonna have fun! ...and then there's the palm pillars that keep sticking to my molds! Need to resolve that. Happy Mother's Day! This is a great group of people!
  6. Yes, they have good instructions on this board - I just think it would be great to get together with other folks who are also interested in new techniques and products - it would be fun! I'm really surprised that someone is not holding any kind of workshop or seminar on a regional basis. Thanks for your help.
  7. Can't remember where I got it - I would have to look it up - but if you tell me where you got yours that just pops out of the mold, I certainly will buy that! Thanks
  8. Hi, All - it occurs to me, while I'm learning about pouring Palm Wax, that it sure would be good if I could go to a class on how to make different types of candles - rather than having to learn all this on my own. Is there any kind of seminar, workshop, or industry event where classes are taught? I'm near Atlanta, so it would need to be something in the southeast. If there's not such a workshop, would anyone else be interested in attending such an event? When I did ceramics a few years ago, there was a semi-annual event where vendors for ceramic molds rented spaces and classes were given on how to pour and finish ceramics. I haven't seen anything like that for candle-making. Thanks for your help.
  9. Visited the soycandle.com site and they seem to have good prices on the waxes - however, be careful when ordering...it appears the order page where the credit card info is to be input, is not secure. It should have an https:// instead of a http:// in the address line. It should also have the small padlock in the lower right corner. Would be better to call or fax them with the credit card info. I definitely will be ordering from them because they seem to have very competitive prices on wax. Thanks
  10. Ok, so I'm new to the palm wax pillars . . . I love the way they look, so I thought I would give them a try . . . not knowing I would have to fight with them to get them out of the mold. I've been doing some reading and it appears that Palm Stearic is suppose to help with mold release. I've used the spray mold release, but it doesn't seem to help. Any suggestions? Thanks
  11. Thanks so much for your input - I'll keep trying with the Palm wax - it does look so pretty in the jars - so that gives me incentive to try and try again. I'll let you know how it turns out. Thanks again, Henri
  12. Since beginning to pour candles a year or so ago, I've used soy wax - and now the all-natural soy blend - and have recently poured palm wax into containers. When testing them side by side, the Palm candle burned brightly (too bright) for about a half-hour or so, and then began to fizzle out. It did not go out completely, but the flame was almost extinguished. The soy (GW444) candle, however, burned great (2 hours). My question is . . . is Palm wax really good for using in containers? When I bought it, my understanding was that it was for container candles. If I use a hotter wick (I double wicked in an 8 oz. apothecary jar HTP126), the flame would be much too high. Thanks for your help. Henri
  13. Hi all - first post - I've been reading all the great info about 444 and it's been very helpful. I've been using MC 415 for almost a year, and didn't even know about the 444 until recently. There's no way I can go back to the 415 (since I lean toward being obsessive about having smooth candles). Does anyone know of a place in Georgia where I can get the 444 so the shipping costs are not so much? Thanks.
