  1. Just Scent has a few really good mixers. I like to mix their “Smarties Type”, “Sour Patch Type”, and “Effervescent Fizzy Pops”. Quite a few companies do variations on sour flavors, but I just find the JS to be super strong. As one of my kids said while I was pouring candles, “That scent makes my nose pucker!”
  2. Thank you Candybee! I took your suggestions as a jumping off point, and it really helped! I had to blend a few scents together until I was satisfied, but the key ingredient ended up being Indigo's Motor Oil! It sounds so strange, but I went through my giant box of random sample oils, and that scent had the metallic/chemical scent I was looking for to replicate ink. Thanks for your help!
  3. Hello all, I’m coming to all of you with a question that has me stumped. I make commission candles, and I’ve been tasked to make a candle for a writing major- pen and paper! I have some experience with NG’s “money” scent for the parchment/paper, but I can’t find anything that will smell like ink. It can resemble either fancy India ink, or just Bic ballpoint pen ink. I’m trying to stay away from sandalwood and other masculine scents, although I am not against blending in a small quantity to add complexity. I’ve only been actively making and selling for about 18 months now, so I know that many of you are way more knowledgeable about vendors and their products than I am. I know that I could have a blend made, but I am trying to keep costs low, since it’s only one candle. If anyone has come across a FO with ink notes, even if it isn’t expressly sold as “ink”, I would be extremely grateful! Everyone has been so kind and supportive on this site, and it’s greatly appreciated! Thanks so much! PS- I know that SOS springs to mind whenever we think of “odd” scents, but I’d rather not use them unless someone can vouch for their quality an a specific item. I’ve had terrible luck with them in the past, and something in their oils make my eyes itch. Thanks again!
  4. I’m very intrigued by many of their scents, but they don’t really provide a lot of description, and the names of the scents are somewhat ambiguous. Are there other scents from them that you’d recommend?
  5. In my never-ending quest to consolidate my fragrance suppliers to save on shipping, I stumbled onto Virginia Candle, and I was very impressed. Solid dupes for more expensive oils, fast shipping, and friendly staff. It’s really all I can ask for. I’ve never found a company yet that doesn’t have a few disappointing scents. I’ll buy from them again in a heartbeat. Additionally, their Cupid’s Arrow FO is so ridiculously good that I told my family I want to be embalmed in it 😜! Hope this helps!
  6. It is predominantly from Hive and Honey, although there may be a little left from Maryland Wax in my tank. I’ve purchased from both vendors several times, and the quality has always been high. I will be so sad if I need to start finding a new blend- I really emphasize to my customers how beautiful and creamy this product is. I would hate to have to change it up!
  7. Did this issue ever get resolved? Because I have had nothing but trouble with the ceda serica for the past two weeks. I’ve been exclusively pouring this wax for a year, and it’s been perfect. For the past two weeks, however, every single candle sinks down in the center. I usually pour around 190, but I’ve now tried every temp from 180-200, and nothing helps. I can’t even pour a wickless test candle (no scent, no color), without it looking like the shape of a funnel. I know there aren’t sinkholes- it’s just this awful shape. It’s so pronounced that it is almost too difficult to fix with a heat gun. I’m starting to get worried, as I have to start ramping up production for the holidays this week, and all of my product is not the quality I like to put out to my customers. If anyone has any advice, I would very much appreciate it. As I’ve said, I’ve been making candles almost 3 yrs now, and working with this wax exclusively for a year without any problems, so I don’t know if this is a supply side issue, or something else. I know this thread was from April, but I saw it tonight while I was banging my head against the wall (from another failed test), and I was wondering whatever became of the issue. Thanks so much for any feedback!
  8. Okay, it sounds bizarre, but WSP has a few cannabis scents that my customers have lost their minds over, particularly cannabis cupcake and cannabis cocoa. The weed smell is definitely there, but the blend makes it actually pleasant, and not like you’re walking through the freshman dorms. I got them initially as novelty scents, but I can say that they are now some of my top sellers.
  9. An update on my BA blue musk “Blue” candle. I was initially very concerned about the HT on this scent. When I use a new scent, I always pour an extra wax melt and candle for testing- the wax melt I use within 24 hours of the pour to get first impressions, and the candle I burn after a 5-7 day cure. When I tested the wax melt, I was disappointed to find that it had no throw at all. Still, I continued to cure in the hopes that it would bloom. I can say that it was a success! It actually turned out lovely after a 7 day cure. Is it the strongest scent? No, but it is solid. I did use almost a 10% load, so that’s something to keep in mind. Honestly, if I can find a comparable scent elsewhere, I’d be curious to try, but this blue musk is honestly one of the nicest musks I have used, and I plan on tinkering with it in the future. Thanks again to everyone who pointed me in the right direction. My customer was extremely happy! 😊
  10. For everyone who made suggestions, thanks so much! I followed up with what many people were saying and got more detail on my commission’s character. They were in the Bard class, which after research, I found was supposed to be a characteristic, sweet-talker. As a result, I went with BA’s Blue Musk. The CT is amazing- it’s curing now, along with a second test candle I made for myself. If the HT is good, I may just add the scent to my line! Thanks again for your help!
  11. Hi everyone, I am just stumped. I have a commission for a candle, and the only thing I was given to work with was that the scent had to play into the word "Blue". Before going with the most obvious, she also has requested nothing aquatic, but the rest was up to me. It's for her fantasy role-playing character. I'm usually pretty good about figuring out a direction on how to scent, but this one is a doozy. I'm curious as to what direction you would go- floral, fruity, or something else? What comes to mind when you imagine a candle named "Blue"- other than water? I'd really appreciate any thoughts you might have. Thanks so much!
