Let me preface this by stating that I have never made candles or worked with wax before. I'm totally ignorant! So maybe this question is obvious and I just missed it.
I'm working on a project that requires the customer to press through a layer of wax (about 4mm in depth) into a soft product. Something like an iceberg, if that helps you visualize. My goal is to have the wax soft enough that when mixed together with the softer product, sharp points of wax do not poke the customer's hands. Currently I have a bag of soy wax flakes from Michaels (don't laugh, it's just what I had on hand) and when I press into the wax, it creates hard pieces that poke me. On the other hand, some of the candles I own have nice and soft wax that crushes easily between the fingers - that's what I want to make!
What sort of additive, or wax, would yield a softer final product? Should I add some sort of oil, or change from soy wax to coconut wax? I realize that this question doesn't exactly fit the forum section, but any general advice would be greatly appreciated.
