  1. I am doing a major destash. I have fragrance oil samples and larger sizes for sale from Aztec, Brambleberry, Bulk Apothecary, Candlescience, Chemmessence, Cierra, Crafters Choice, Flaming Candle, Northwood, Scented Expressions, Sweetcakes, Makesy (The wooden Wick Co.). All have been purchased within the last year. I will provide shipping at cost or pickup near Winston Salem, North Carolina. I package these very carefully.  Take advantage of the opportunity to sample many different fragrances from all of these companies at a reduced cost (less than 50% each if purchased individually) and drastically reduced shipping over what each of these companies charges to ship.

if these shops want vessels like shops you use, hahah they must pay.

Yes, it's true, and I cannot believe the price they can command for my candles. They pay me half for wholesale, which is awesome, but I can't seem to sell similar candles for 20-30% less. I guess it's just the venue. Oh well. Grateful I get to make beautiful and functional candles for them.

  3. I have been making candles for several interior design shops. They want interesting vessels as well as quality candles. I have purchased vessels from Wooden Wick, Dream Vessels, and 16/17, but they are soooooo expensive, it's difficult to make a profit. I only make larger orders, so I'm not interested in recycling vintage containers. Could anyone recommend sources for vessels beyond standard glass?

    Accublend in CA makes it.

What is in it depends on who you ask... A partner who has been to the factory and spoke with the people who make it was told coconut, palm, beeswax and other natural waxes. I've seen facebook group leaders who spoke to resellers who insist it is vegan or that it has paraffin.

Lead time has been long.. very long. Last year one of their pieces of equipment was out of order for quite a long time. I, too, would like to just buy a pallet and be over the long waits. It's hard to get hold of anyone in their office.

When it has gone on sale direct, it has sold out in like 5 minutes with limits. Pallet orders supposedly can be made with about 3 weeks lead time.

How do you arrange for shipping for a pallet? Is there a go to freight company y’all have used?

  5. I am by no means an expert, however, I have noticed the same thing. My theory is that the cotton wicks literally wick more of the wax and fragrance oil into the flame while the wooden wicks simply burn the surface wax. I have just about given up on wooden wicks for this reason. I use some really expensive oils and using more of them is not an economically viable option.

This is the can I’ve been using for the past several years.

I picked up others from candle suppliers,  and discovered over time there was absolutely nothing special that made them “candle” release spray. I don’t need to spray each time, maybe a quick spritz every 3 - 4 candles in the mold. I wipe out excess if it looks wet. You can kind of feel when there’s already enough release on them. The molds season with time.

as for beeswax suppliers, I have the most consistent good luck from American Soy Organics. I buy several 55”lb cases at a time. With the over 50lb shipping penalties It’s a HARD bill to pay.  the pain diminishes after a few months, lol. Then it is time to pay again 😂

soapers Choice has nice wax These days. For a while the yellow was a really deep dark turmeric color and nearly impossible to burn. They are close to me, so convenient in a pinch.

Awesome! My husband has this in his shop! Thanks again

  7. Hi all,

I've been experimenting with making white beeswax pillar and votive candles. I've had some success, but I often have the wax stick to the sides of the molds. This creates a defect in the surface of the candle. I use olive oil to coat the molds before I pour them, and I put them in the freezer before popping them out. The worst is that my last pillar candle is stuck in the mold! So frustrating. I can't even seem to melt it out.

    thank you!

Here are some comparison between Coconut 83 and GB 464 in case someone might be interested.

Coconut 83 hardens much faster than GB 464.  See below picture.  GB 464 was poured 15 minutes earlier than Coconut 83 in bigger jar , but Coconut 83 hardened much faster.

    Picture115.thumb.png.f6af46994373779cb8148e4fcfd5b4e7.png

Below scale is in 1 to 10 scale.  Comparison was made all waxes in 12.5 Libbey Status Jar with 2.94" diameter.

                                                     Coconut 83 w/10% FO            GB 464 w/12% FO            GB 464 + 5% IGI palm wax w/12%

    CT:                                                           8                                          10                                               8

    HT:                                                           9                                            6                                               9

    Glass adhesion:                                     10                                            8                                               9

    Top appearance:                                    10                                            9                                               8

    Top appearance after burn:                      9                                            7                                               8

    Best Helix wick:                                    #35                                        #60                                           #50

    Melt pool temperature:                         138F                                     128F                                         124F

*Flame sizes of all of the waxes were less than 1" and had melt pool depth of 5/16".

GB 464 is about 8% heavier in weight than Coconut 83 filled to same line in same container.

For 2.31" 9oz amber jar, Helix #1 was needed for Coconut 83 vs Helix #35 for GB 464.  That is difference of 9 wick sizes.

*For 100% GB 464, I got better HT(about 7.5 in scale) using my own special wick with melt pool temperature of 124F.

This is fascinating. Thanks so much foe sharing such a scientific analysis. I use a combo of GW 464 and Coco 83, but after two bad batches of 464, I’m about ready to move to Coco 83 entirely. Just wish it was a little harder. May try adding white beeswax to it to see how that works. I’ll report back.

  9. I have been making candles for years and selling them for about a year. I have many requests for candles that can be used outside in the hot summer days of summer here in NC and the surrounds. I don't want to use paraffin, but I also don't want candles meant to stay at an outdoor bar to turn to liquid when it reaches 100 degrees. Does anyone have advice on natural waxes to use to combat this problem? Thank you!

    💯💯💯 I completely agree.

The exposure that Etsy used to provide was wonderful as a new seller. Now it’s more like, “what exactly am I paying for?”

It all pretty much fell apart when the decided to sell stock. Appeasing investors versus pleasing sellers was no contest for them. Allowing resellers was a big nail in the coffin too. Such a shame for everyone.

So true. I was just reading yesterday how Etsy has become a Wall Street darling, which means, yes, of course they’ve changed their focus to investors and are doing so at the expense of makers. Too bad investors and makers can’t be the same group of people. I think we need a new model
