  1. where is the best place to buy this? I have done a google search and come up with several places but they all seem very expensive. I was hoping that someone had a supplier that might be somewhat cheaper. Or atleast one that is recommended and dependable. thanks
  2. Hey guys, I have decided to try my luck with some wax bears. I am brand new to this. My friend and I (angied) have started a web site with some bath and body products. www.ascentfromabove.net. However, I would like to branch out and play around with the bears. Strictly for myself at this point. We have a good supplier www.juliescandles.com that is close. That saves on postage for me. My question is Julie explained to me how to make the dipped bears....so I set off to create one....I dipped it and then squeezed to excess wax off the bear. Put the bear on wax paper and tried to shape and fluff up the fur. It is not completely dry but it doesn't seem to be as "hard" as ones that I have bought before. Any advice? Sorry for sounding so green....but I am. I plan to practice practice and practice some more. I just was hoping for some tried and true expert advice from the forum. Thanks in advance guys. cattzclawz cathy
  3. Thanks for all the nice words and advice. We have been working very hard on our business. We sure do appreciate and all of the feed back. Not to mention, we think you guys rock. So we have been nervously excited about showing off our website. Again thank you so much. Cattzclawz, cathy:yay:
  4. I use a pearlized aloe bath and body gel from a local supply store. The first time I put color and fragrance in the bottles, labeled them very nice and pretty patted myself on the back and went to bed.........woke up the next morning and screamed yes you got it WATERY. The secret now I was told that there is an ingredient in the fragrance that breaks down the bath gel. So use only 1/4th teaspoon to 8 oz of gel. No more. But after I cursed everybottle as I poured them down the sink the lady at the supply store told me."Don't worry you didn't lose your product, don't pour it out just add more bath gel and it will thicken back up" Well was too late for me. Now I am terrified of the bath gel lol lol lol lol. That is my little 2 cents for what it is worth. Good Luck. Proceed with caution! :tiptoe:
  5. So the "real" labels would that be vinyl?....I guess I may go that way as well. Thanks a lot for the input.
  6. Ok,I know I read someone having issues with labels. The labels wrinkle, bleed, so forth. I am not in a mass production of course, not yet anyway, lol lol (I can dream) but I do have a few people that I make products for. I did read a thread about this at one point and read someone say something about packing tape. I don't want to sound stupid but if one uses packing tape would you put it around the entire bottle or just so it covers label? Or what I am having an airhead moment I guess. I think this could be just the answer I am looking for but I also want it to look profesional as possible. thanks in advance to any help. I almost forgot...on the same thread a few days ago someone was talking about vinyl labels...how expensive are these labels compared to the others? Is is worth the $$ or is packing tape a cheaper ok route. thanks cathy
  7. hey looks awesome....I can't wait to try it. I am definately a coffee lover. and a caramel lover and a warm vanilla sugar lover...oh heck...you know I love it...It looks very funky.
  8. I am no expert but "back in the day", (a month ago,lol lol) I started with a basic body butter recipe. shea, ccb, oils whipped it like crazy but it would always end up like a tub of lard. A friend told me about stearic acid and ewax. I love it....but here was the trick for me anyway....distilled water. I don't know the exact details but I believe that ewax is an emulisfier for the oils and water to combine. I am sure someone else can explain it much better. Nevertheless, when I melt my ingredients blend thoroughly stream in d water and whip like crazy then at a lower temp add the preserves and vit e scente cornstarch maybe a color it seems to set up good. So I am wondering if you may need to add some water if you are using the ewax and stearic acid. I would love to hear from a seasoned B&B person. I may be way off base but this seems to work for me....anyone else?
  9. I second and third and so on on the scrubs, body butters I haven't made cp yet done a little with MP...I like to scent my MP and put them into molds and just display them on the back of the toilet...makes great decor and they smell awesome. Not to mention, everybody that sees them think I am a genious...I most def don't let them know how easy that one is. I also like the body butter bars...oh heck..I love it all. I would make every recipe (well I would try) I came in contact with if I could....but poor angie I know her husband won't let me talk to her about it that much. ha ha lol lol ha ha.
  10. Hello all...A friend and I are trying to come up with a body butter and we have done a ton of research...(well she is much better than I am) but the recipe that we have I love....one problem it seems to have a slight drag to it. I have cut back the ewax 2x and this last time it seems to be good. Would anyone be willing to test...I would love to have some feed back from those who actually know what they are doing...can't say I do lol lol lol ..... I have seen where different people do swaps and so forth. I actually don't know the best way to do something like this. So....any ideas..any at all. I truly want your opinions. You all have been such a great influence and help to me. Thanks...for any help. cathy
  11. hey angied.....my tweaked recipe feels awesome...after it sat alittle the consistency is still the same the longer I let it set the foamier it gets. It is as if it has a liquid soap in it binding it but it doesn't. I only up'd the ewax everything else to the tee. I didn't whip and set whip and set as much as a matter of fact I only cooled completely whipped, whipped in shea folded in sugar. I love it. But I too wonder if it looks the way it is supposed to. :tiptoe:
  12. thank you all...I was just alittle confused. Sounds good...I will do a search for the scrub...thanks again.
  13. Well I am just getting started as well and I have questions too. I did read about the T-50 vit E. My question is: the vit e oil, lets say from Walmart, is that enough if you use another perservative? I actually add water to my body butter. I tried to make it with a combo of butters oils & ewax and it just seemed to greasy. I tried cornstarch and still too greasy. I did receive negative feedback from my testers. After I found a few recipes that added stearic acid and water I am loving it and getting better reviews. So I am putting vit e and phenop in but I was wondering if I needed the t-50 or if a cheaper version would do. Any suggestions? thanks
  14. OK everyone go ahead and laugh but what is Bohunks? I have seen it mentioned a few times but I have obviously missed the recipe. Ok I kind of get that it is maybe a sugar scrub but could someone PLEASE feed my curiousity......yea I know curiousity killed the cat..LOL LOL but......I am at a loss thanks cat :embarasse
  15. thanks...that never crossed my mind...silly me! I wonder if there is a color that would be washable...or suit this purpose?
  16. Hey I thought I saw a recipe for bath crayons a few weeks ago..Does anyone have a good recipe or idea for this one? I saw the playdough recipe and loved the idea. I too have a perfect little tester..he wants me to make him his own body lotion....manly scent of course...I believe he is what they call a "metrosexual" lol lol.....I thought the playdough and crayons would be a great little "just because" gift for him. thanks
  17. good idea....Have you ever worked with natrasorb? I remember seeing this ingredient. Does cornstarch work the same?????
  18. Hello, I was wondering about the recipe? Did I just miss is on the board or could you post it. thanks
  19. I am curious about this recipe...I have used a few similar recipes but I find the finished product to be soooo oily that I have to wipe it off after 10 minutes or so. I love body butter but I was wondering about the greas factor with this type of recipe...I mean without stearic acid, water e-wax and the sort. I don't make butters to sell. I am just so addicted to making about anything....you know jack of all trades master of nothing...so I thought I would ask about the greasy feeling of the finished product.
  20. thank you for your reply....I was wondering how they could just list liquid soap...but however, I am making some for personal use so if I use a liquid soap from the store and use the sugar instead of salt I guess I have no legal worries. I want to make everything...it is so addictive but I am not confident enough nor have I tested enough to even think about selling my product. Again thanks for the information.
  21. Hello all...I recently vacationed in Clearwater Fl where I bought some products from a local making sea salt scrubs, lotion bars and lip balms...I am still very new to making this stuff. I absolutely enjoyed the lotion bar and have found several recipes...If someone has a good bar recipe I would love to see it....Now my question, I also looked up a recipe for the scrub which included liquid soap...this may sound stupid but is there a special "liquid soap" or just one from the store? If so..how did they just list the ingredients as liquid soap and not the brand so forth? Also I read a recipe for scrup with LS and it called for 1/2c liquid soap(diluted paste & neutralized)...WHAT? HELP! Last question....can you use sugar instead of salt in this type of recipe? I find the salt a little harsh. Sorry for so many questions..... Thanks Cat:D
  22. When I added the ewax it actually thickened it up. Before it looked like a cup of half melted lard setting on the stove...you know when some rises to the top? But I don't know what the ewax did or even is supposed to do but I now have a somewhat stiff body butter, although like I said before I have some grains that is the least of my worries. I like how it goes on....I don't want a lotion consistency I like a thicker one and I guess the ewax did the trick. I actually have seen several recipes on the net that calls for either ewax or beeswax...obviously not both... but I don't know I am so green (new) with this...I understand if I would have added too much ewax it would have been more of a salve but it I could actually save this batch for myself....not to share with the public of course... Thanks cathy
  23. thanks for all the tips....thanks to angied I actually did not melt it down but I whipped it for about 5 minutes added about a tbl of e.wax (of course melted the ewax separately) then added it to my mixture...whipped/fridge/whipped/fridge about 5 times and it actually is great. I still do have a small issue with the grainies but it is for me and my mom so we will deal with it. I sure was in a panic earlier...thanks guys.
  24. Thanks for everyones input....I think I will research a bit more and play it safe with a strore bought product...although I have been going to the tanning bed I still do not have enough to go wide open in Florida....thanks guys. cat
