  1. I am new to candle making but have been pouring a lot since mid December and I am having issues with getting acceptable to strong hot throws in my Soy Candles. I am using GB444 with 4oz Mason jars. I have made > 50 candles testing different scents. All of the scents have a weak to okay hot throw but only really throws maybe 3 feet or so from the jar. On the other hand the cold throws are very good. As a comparison, we burned some candles from a national "Craft' candle maker that uses 100% soy and their candle fills our whole kitchen & living room, so this is kind of the bar. I have tested with 6.5%, 8%, and 10% and no major change. I am pretty confident in the math regarding the recipe formulation. All candles follow the same process with pretty strict notes: Heat wax to around 185-190 Laddle 1 candle worth of wax into heated pour pitcher (weighing as i pour to get the correct amount of wax). Add FO around 165 Stir around 1 minute Let cool to 128 Pour into heated Mason Jar I thought that since i am making a single candle to test the FO, maybe it is cooling too fast but my last candle batch consisted of 5 Mason jars of the same scent, just changing the wick (for wick testing). This obviously took longer to cool and i stirred it longer. So far no change to the hot throw. Almost all of my candles were made with CD12 wicks, which i think may be overwicked for the 4oz Mason by the large mushrooming left over. So far i have only worked through ECO8, CD8 and 1 burn of CD10. The CD10 looks like a better burner but i did not noticed any difference in the HT. Also, all candles cured a minimum of 2 weeks, regardless of the FO. FO's have been ordered from Candle Science, Lone Star, Natures Garden, and Flaming Candle. No noticeable difference between suppliers GB444 has came from Candle Science and Lone Star in 50lb shipments. No noticeable difference between suppliers / batches Questions Anything standing out in the process? Should i try GB464 or another brand of soy? I know Paraffin gives better HT but I want to stay with Soy (no paraffin blends). Is there any HT difference between a 4oz Mason and a 16oz Mason? I wouldn't think so if the FO ratio is the same given the jar diameters are nearly the same. Equipment Wax melter: Presto pot Temperature: Multiple thermometers
