  1. Have you had any luck finding a replacement? i am getting low on the last case i have and not sure what to experiement with now that had such great HT through.
  2. I have been having the same issue with 464 wax in 8oz jelly jars, 8 oz amber straight sided jars - my candles burn nice and steady until about 1/4-1/3 down the jar, then the flames dance after than consistently. My candles are burning nicely, no soot, smoke, not too hot, just wasnt sure if i was doing something wrong either as i tried different FOs at 6% and wick combos (Premier 750s, CD8, ECO 8/10) no dye.
  3. I have been experimenting with 464 in 8oz tins, which i think i found some winners in CD wicks, still testing other fragrances. But it does get hot and humid here in late Spring and Summer time and i am wondering how my candles will hold up. Should i be concerned about this or maybe just in situations, where i may have an outdoor craft fair? I am not planning on shipping, but will be sell locally on the occasion. I tried to search but was thinking of a 50/50 mix with 464 and 444. Have 10lbs of each just hanging out and wondered if the 444 would assist in holding its shape? This will only be in 8oz tins no color just FO.
  4. As an update...i did pour my clamshells more full and the dips seem very minor if at all. i do get a little frost on some of the bottom edges. i made other melts/tarts and they turned out great. I am debating on switching to liquid dye too make my coloring a little more consistent compared to dye blocks.
  5. I’ve never tried palm in a tin before. I have used it in 9oz hex jars and found Eco 8s and 10s work best for me.

    Fire Starters

Just happened to come across this thread when searching for something else. My coworker and I were talking about my clamshells today and then mentioned that he has used a few firestarters when he goes camping. That was the first I’ve heard of them and then saw this thread by accident. I’m definitely going to try this in the next couple days!!! Take my dog to the park and go looking for some stuff and will be careful to make sure I don’t put them in the “wrong bag” lol. Michelle
  7. Yes, my tops have been smooth dipping in the center. I will play around some more this weekend with temps and also try adding some of my other soy.
  8. The dimples I’m not worried about. It’s the frosting on the bottom of the shells. I think I will try pouring little hotter 170+
  9. I ordered a 5 lb bag of the PB from Aztec, heated to 195 added color block shavings around 190 and FO at 185 poured into clamshells at 170 and 160 and a few at 150. Got frosting on the bottom of all. but more so on the the 150-160. Also got dimples on all. Did 100% PB 1lb and 1oz fragrance. Should I try blending my wax or pour a little hotter? I have c-3 and 464. Thank you! Michelle
  10. The top pic is C3 from Candlewic Lavender/Cham from CandleScience. The bottom Pic is the 464 and Blueberry FO both from CandleScience. They are 8oz tins one is zoomed in more than the other.
  11. I started with Palm wax maybe 6-8 months ago, havent made a ton just as a hobby for my own personal use in jars. I recently, about a month ago, i wanted to experiment with Soy wax in tins. SO i started with C-3 and the 464. My love hate, is basically...i love the art of making the candles and then comes the frustrating part...my technical errors in learning these waxes. 1. My first attempt at pouring the two waxes, I heated 1lb wax 185 added color at 180 and then added the FO at 170, stirred and then poured at 135 in 8 oz tins and tried a 6oz jar. I did this same process for both types of waxes except different FO since i only had 1oz of each FO, and also to find a starting point. The tops turned out smooth in the 464,, i was expecting the worst since i dont know this wax, so i was excited. Then i looked at the C-3 and that needs some work those werent smooth, little on the rough side. i will have to add pics tonight. 2. i let them cure for about a week and then i started to test just the tins. I have CD and ECO wicks so i am still trying to figure out, which ones work best. For the 464 used CD14, CD12. The CD14 seemed to be a winner until i got to the 3rd test burn, it was flickering alot and some soot was coming from the flame within an hour. The CD 12, i messed up and stopped it after two hours because the melt pool was maybe 2". I now realize i should have took it to the 3 hours to see if it would get there. For the C-3 i used ECO 14 and ECO 12, my main issue with the C-3 is it looked like a dried up orange slice after it dried from burning. The cold throw i am finding is best in the 464. but both are decent. The hot throw was also better in the 464 but then again my wicks werent the right sizes, so i need to make some adjustments on that before i can really assess. I have CD wicks and ECO wicks. I think for the 464 i should now try the CD10 and maybe retry the CD12? The C-3 i may put off experimenting with for now. i bought only 5lbs just to see if i liked it. I will post pics later tonight. Michelle
  12. I'm curious about trying the PB as well, but Aztec shipping is crazy for just 5lbs for trying to make clam shells. I might try Candlewics since they are just over an hour away from me.
  13. Hello all! My name is Michelle and I am new to making candles and have been experimenting with different soy waxes. I have been doing alot of research on the forums as i have been going. And am developing a love hate relationship with my new found hobby just trying to find the right combinations. But this forum has been providing some interesting tips for some of the issues i have been having and am looking forward to improving my craft with some assistance of all of you of course!
