Black raspberry Vanilla: while I love it, I wonder if we should go for less commonly available, equally excellent fragrances for the first go-round.  What does everyone think?

If we aim for 3-4 the first month, that opens 3-4 the second month, and so on.  If planned well, all of the labs who kindly sent candidates will get a bit of an order reward so we can keep this fragrance search going.

It would be wonderful, to me, to have a fragrance collection of the month club.

Totally good with your “short” list — and while I love BlkRaspVan and would appreciate a FO I was confident would throw well, I’m also good with waiting. LOVE the idea of fragrance of the month club 😍 and yes….space everything out. 💙

  2. Father’s Day became a “sniffle-a-thon” with my fam. Always interesting to get their perspective!  They would all discuss and then I’d read TT comments. We all had a blast!  Here are my top sniffles (The second set seemed to hit the mark with all of them more):

    Rainbow Moss (everyone’s top 3)

Purple Carrot and Sage (everyone’s top 3)

    Strawberry Vine (everyone’s top 3)

    Garden Herbs

    Tangerine & Ginger

    Clementine Coriander

    Black Raspberry Vanilla

    Pinion Wood

it was so interesting to hear reactions that were EXACTLY as TT described…Sandalwood Mahogany Teakwood - everyone instantly said “Polo Red Cologne”…Cedarwood Amber — everyone said “Dial Soap” BUT they also really like it. (Honestly, probably because their grandmother used Dial Soap and the love comes thru the scent)

Thanks again for everything @TallTayl and adding to the fun evening with my grown  kids ❤️

Sniffie blotters take forever to make and sort to ship out.  Not complaining, just setting expectations for why this s taking so long.  The # of fragrances x the # of requests = several sessions  of hours so far.  Smells good though…

if anyone has ideas for how to speed up making sniffy samples I’m all ears! I love creative new ideas.  Right now I cut watercolor paper into small rectangles sized to fit heavy aluminum foil rectangles that make the most of the roll size. Then dropper fragrance on to each blotter paper, fold, sticker and sort.  My foil folding job gets messier the more I do. Many apologies for the crooked foil and labels folks.

Please DO NOT worry about any of us!  We are so appreciative and however long it takes is how long it takes!  I consider this a “long haul” process — and thank you so much for what you are doing for us!!

  4. (In Texas) no one cares about “thigh lights”. Only scent throw. I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve been asked about wicks or wax. I use soy because I prefer it and I’m used to it. But I honestly don’t think most people around here care — (sooting is the only thing I ever hear about besides HT)

One way to try to combat the cologne aspect may be to add something on the rustic side, I think the word I'm looking for is "agrestic" -- scents that come to mind for that are cedar (not e/o, but f/o), and juniper berry (of which an e/o may work), or, as suggested, something very woody or smokey.

I have a couple of cedar FO I’ve never been particularly fond of OOB so haven’t gotten around to pouring them — I’ll try mixing those in and see what I think — thanks!!

Have you tried Midwest Fragrance Company's Smoked Cedar & Oud. To me it was too woody and too smokey. So maybe that could be more what you want or something to use as a blender

I actually have that midwest fo — but haven’t poured it yet. Definitely an easy try!  Thanks!

  7. @birdcharm hmmm, I can’t tell what is making the wood and/or smoke FO smell cologne like. They just smell like mens cologne to me. 🤷‍♀️ I’ve read on the forum about adding something “herb-ish” to help a water FO that smells cologne like — i guess I was hoping there was something someone would know to help the others. Pine FO are normally NOT cologne like, but blending a pine seems to turn any FO to pine. I’m currently working with AAA pinion pine (now I think they are Waxy Flower) i can smell the pinion faintly — but it mostly smells like mens cologne and I was trying to cut thru that smell. Maybe I just need to take all the cologne like FO I have and put them in 1 giant bottle 😂 and call it good.

  8. I have several FO that smell “cologne like” to my nose — mainly water or woodsy FO’s. I’m experimenting adding some “green/herbish” to the water FO’s to see how that curbs the cologne. But what about the woodsy/smokey FO’s that smell cologne-ish?  Any advice to counter cologne but still smell like wood/smoke?

  9. I have finally determined (or maybe the correct word is realized) that I am willing to help with costs of reformulating some of the excellent FO’s we can no longer get. I’ve avoided this because I am a super small maker - mostly for myself and sell candles at my cost (story you probably aren’t interested in) so cost has always been a factor. But keep me in mind as a participant in these endeavors.

  10. In my notes, I have a comment “this may have changed”. (This comment was something I heard or read-not my own thought.) Before I order several pounds, any comments from anyone who has used this regularly or in the past and has personal notes or thoughts? I did a search on the forum and didn’t see anything (but sometimes search terms bring up or don’t bring up past posts).

    and Happy Thanksgiving folks!

I'd love to find something, too.  I also saw some posts here saying WSP's is "the same" so I tried it.  It's similar, but not nearly as good.

Thanks @BenderSF  that’s what I was afraid of and why I reached out to everyone here. Y’all are ALL such a great resource. I feel like this is gonna be like my never ending search for Frankincense and Myrrh. 😭😭😭. I’ve got soooo many bottles…maybe I need to pour them all together and see what happens 😜

  12. Well…here I am looking to replace another CS reformulated FO…AGAIN! I know Frasier Fir has changed and don’t even want to try the new one. A search here showed WSP Frasier Fir to be “the same”. I know I’m too late this year but don’t want to get caught again…several family members LOVE the THYMES Frasier Fir candle. Would love some direction on where to go from those of you who have fought the battle already. (Beside WSP)

  13. (Hopefully) moving this conversation up…I’m having a hard time still with finding a coffee scent. Cierra’s Espresso is nice but smells more “latte” to me. Midwest Espresso also smells more latte with a touch of sweet (also very nice!). But I need a straight coffee. Any suggestions?
