  1. Has anyone ever tried this? I love to burn my candles and (with the storm the other day) I thought that might be a good idea. :rolleyes2
  2. That's an excellent idea!!Thanks...coffee addict I am:p At least when my Gevalia is gone:shocked2:
  3. Would using mason jars work? I mean, use the one big melting pot for the type wax you're burning, then pour out enough to mix a scent/ color combo for whatever size then another jar for another scent /color combo...and so on. That way, you could still do several (pillars/votives/containers) off one pot. Does that sound reasonable to anybody? Thought I may give it a try.
  4. Thanks again Scented! I don't know how much more hubby will let me spend right now (I spent money on some supplies back-to-back)....would a hair dryer on high-heat work till I earn an allowance for a heat gun...lol
  5. No you didn't Scented.just brain dumped when I included that one. Which is preferable to use glass or tin? would a 1oz be too small or would a 2oz be best? or larger?
  6. I appreciate all the info. LRC, is it true that you guys will test candles and scents for each other? I read that on another thread, somewhere in this maze. If and when I feel comfortable to start doing that, how would I go about it?
  7. I've been checking out most of the sites that I see u guys recommend and I came across Spec. Bottles. They have plastic bottles from 2oz up. I was wondering.....When I start playing around w/ diff. scent/color combos, and I would like to send testers to a couple of very honest friends and fam. members, would it be better to use glass/plastic/ or tin containers?
  8. I was so busy reading everything yes., that I forgot to post a couple of replies. I loved your chunk candle. I just have to remember to take my time when cutting my chunks w/ the roller (some come out diff. sizes--ugh!).
  9. Thanks Christina!! I've just kinda played around w/ the other wax in my kitchen so far....I think hubby would like to have that room back, though!
  10. Went to go get the java fix and forgot to add this:embarasse I did a test burn on a 3 1/2 square pillar (reg. parafin from HobbyLobby) and it burned for just over 10hrs! that was with an off centered wick. Is that an unusual time? I just got my shipment from Aztec and I'm axious to start this weekend on some real test candles. I can feel the "candle itch" starting; but, I'm gonna try and hold out till hubby helps w/ that room. Thanks you guys for all the great sugg. to this point!!
  11. Remember,...newbie here:yay: ,so please don't attack! How much does the outside temp. actually affect the making/ curing/set-up of candles? Will bulk wax stored at cooler temp take longer to melt/ harder to break apart? My hubby is helping me convert a small area (attached to main house; but w/ door directly to outside). Would a space heater help when temps are cool? Sorry to ask so much at once..:embarasse
  12. Soundz like someone trying to get a freebie to me. I'm new to making candles; but, for years I have burned all sorts (and recently have been using a candle warmer). NEVER has anything like that ever happened to me, either.
  13. I "hear" everyone talking about how the got their free wax samples. Could someone please tell me how that's possible? As someone new to candle making it would be a great way for me to try out different waxes (w/o the hubby strangling me for spending money).
  14. I know what you mean! I got some wax from Hobby Lobby (stupid me did't know to additives in it) and the shrink factor was horrible!
  15. My hubby (bless his heart for putting up w/ me) and I had a hard time with the parts, as well. I just found a local machinist in Nashville (GA) and he drilled mine for about $18.
  16. Has anyone ever used a pizza roller to cut their chunks? I was going to use a knife, then my hubby suggested I try that. It works for the time being (while I'm practicing). :rolleyes2
  17. HI everybody! I've been interested in candlemaking for quite awhile; but, I've only recently started making them. I've discovered a couple of tricks already. One, is to use a hair dryer for getting candles out of poly-carb molds and the other is to contact a local machinist to drill and tap the hole for you in your presto pot wax melter. I've been reading these boards on a regular basis and I REALLY appreciate all the tips and tricks that are offered for "newbies" like me! Thank you!
