  1. Just spoke the guys at Cal Candle and always they are super helpful. I just got a bad batch and he recommended using a paint filter. Problem solved. Now I know for the next time!. Thanks all for your replies!
  2. Thanks @kandlekrazy I’m definitely going to call them Monday. But as I suspected the slabs have hundreds of speckled debris in them. It looks like little dead marching ants in the wax LOL
  3. Thank you both. I’ll give the guys a call on Monday for sure. And thanks for the strainer idea. just another step in candle making LOL people think you just stick a wick in the wax and that’s it ... i wish!!
  4. After I poured out the wax this is what the little black dots looked like... gross .... my candles have have cooled since I poured and the appearance doesn’t seem to be affected but I’m really curious to know what these particulars are 😳
  5. Hi everyone!! I just melted 12 pounds of coco wax in my wax melter and I noticed all these little black specs accumulating at the bottom of pot and slight floating around in the wax . Is this normal? I’m using cal candle supply coco 83 ive never seen this before
  6. Oh, the CD10 gave an okay hot throw, but I rather not burn my wax and my customers complain about the charred cold throw. Currently going to test new wicks during the winter holiday!
  7. I've had the same issue with CD wicks, wicking coconut has been a challenge especially when I add fragrance. I tried ECO w my fragrances and it was a dancing light show, 😂. I've decided to stick with CD 10 in a 80mm diameter glass (3in). The 14th burned GREAT but after 2.5-3 hr start shrooming and charred the wax and smelled burnt. Wish I could send scent through the computer LOL
  8. Update so I let my candle burn half way done. It cleaned up those sides and the color sort of went away I’m not mad at it!!
  9. @kandlekrazy I will take grey over brown too! LOLOL thank so much for the feedback!
  10. @Trappeur Thanks for your quick reply and compliments on the candles!! You are correct about the melt pool i have noticed the further I burn with ECO 6 they eventually melt the side down. Yes this is my first burn on this set, I took the others advice and lowered the FO ratio and used a smaller wick. The scent throw is great in a 12x12 room. The bottom glass is a white glass and top is clear glass. See the side shot of the glass (again i almost tripped so the wax got messy LOL) The fragrance I used was a replica of a perfume I loved so the lab made an FO compatible with candles, so the first sample they gave me was great but I wanted a killer hot throw and they boosting the fragrance by taking out some of the diluent. This is what the lab sent me: If I make this 10 % stronger ( I am boosting fragrance chemicals and taking away some diluent) I am guessing this also may have had a adverse reaction with the discoloration but it sure does smell good LOL. I may have just answered my question about the discoloration. Now the challenge will be getting the lab to send me a new batch if it is indeed take out some diluent, YIKES!!!! Thanks again for your awesome feedback!!
  11. Sorry for the late updates!! My daytime job took over for a few weeks LOL! Heres two glasses filled w coco 83 wax blend | Eco 6 wick. I came to the conclusion it is the fragrance affecting the top candle. the top candle is the troublesome fragrance I only put 7% and it discolored the wax to a grayish color after only burning for 2.5 hours - it may look lumpy cause my clumsy self almost tripped and caught the glass LOL the bottom candle is perfect no issues w color ... I typically use ECO 8 as it gives me a clean wax pool w my glasses.. I tried the eco 6 to see if it would make difference - doesn’t quite form a good wax pool side to side but it performs fine w hot throw... just can’t figure out why the fragrance is turning grey when it cools...
  12. @Kerven Thanks for the reply. I will use definitely go down on FO and try several wicks!
  13. @kandlekrazy Thanks so much! From reading all the replies I definitely think i need to scale back on the FO %'s. Thanks for the tip making new round soon!
  14. Hi, this is my first post! So I have been making coconut wax blend candles with a highly boosted FO and either I'm not wicking this bad boy properly or I am using too much FO? (There was no soot on the sides of the glass and it formed an even melt pool and I could smell the fragrance) but that char smell has to go! EWH 12% and 10% FO CD No. 8 Wick Coconut Wax Blend 8 oz glass cylinder. I have used smaller wicks and they dont form a burn pool under 3 hours. So I admit I left it burning for more than 4 hours and it naturally mushroomed, however, the wax smelled burnt. I have burned Voluspa and Diptyque way longer than I should have like 10 hours and it never smelled charred and those are highly fragranted candles... Any advice would be great! I really hate the smell of charr!
