  1. Nice! I usually wash out my votives with warm water before wicking, and since I live in Southern California they stay pretty warm...but I like the idea of putting them in a warm oven too... As far as pouring temps, I heat to 185, add the FO, then cool to 165 and pour. I usually get good glass adhesion (some pockets) but the tops are super smooth! Thanks for the update - I'm looking forward to hearing how they smell! Do you sell your candles? I'm just getting started...
  2. Hi LRed! Thanks for your note! How'd it go with C3? Sometimes scents smell different in the wax...so here's hoping Pumpkin Spice is a winner (for you or your buyers!). Would love to know how it goes!!
  3. I like CD 20s and 22 on 3" diam containers too!
  4. Hi Moonstar! Nice to meet you I haven't worked with 464, but I think C3 might be similar (very heavy, creamy wax). Definitely learned with this one you need to wick up! Good to know you like a little more FO too. I've been using 1.5 oz per pound and that seems to be working out okay. I've tested a bunch of FOs from General Wax and Flaming Candle Co. Trappeur recco'd Candle Science and I am looking forward to trying them out! What wax do you use? 464?
  5. Hi, Trappeur! Thank you so much for the response and helpful info! Very nice to meet you I am currently using 1.5 oz of FO per pound and that seems to be working, but will take your advice and scale back to 1oz. I learned to cure for 2 weeks, which helps a lot! I've realized the longer they cure, the better they smell. I haven't tried Candle Science for FOs yet but will give them a try! Thank you for that recommendation. Will also do a search for C3 wax and oils - excited to see what I find here! I'm using 7oz and 10oz frosted white jars from General Wax and have tested a variety of wicks: HTP 62, 72, 83, 105, 126, Eco 12, 14, 16, and CD 20, 22. I know I need to test for every fragrance but just knowing that I need to wick up for C3 has been helpful. For the 7oz containers, CD 22 wicks provide good HT and no hangup. The flame does get a little high though, and I wish it was self trimming like HTP. Is it bad to use a wick that big? I also like HTP 105 for this container but it does have a little hang up even after the second burn. For the 10oz container, HTP 126 seems to be working pretty well. Perhaps there is a better wick for C3 that I don't know about? Any thoughts you have would be appreciated Hope you are having a lovely weekend!
  6. Nice to meet you, KandleKrazy Totally agree about the ratio! I just started pouring in 2lb container (yay!) and forgot the ratio was 2Ibs wax, 3 oz FO. Maybe I should consider reducing FO from 1.5 oz pp to 1oz pp like you suggested. I know that some people like a light scent, but I'm on a mission to make a scent that's going to fill a room (even if it's just my bathroom, haha). Once I master wicking and pouring for C3, my guess is that trying out new FOs is the fun part that never ends.
  7. Thanks Candybee! Nice to meet you! I love being able to get to General Wax quickly. Everyone there is so nice, too!
  8. Hi Sponiebr! Thanks for the warm welcome, I'm happy to be here So cool that you make soap! I will keep my eye out for Candle Science's FO sale, thanks for the great tip! Good advice about reading the descriptions too. See ya around!
  9. Hi Dorothy! Nice to meet you You are absolutely right - that would be way too much FO! I have been using 3 oz of FO for 2 Ibs of wax (not 1), which is way closer to what you are using. That ratio has been burning okay (not too much hang up after the second burn, no bubbles in the wax) but not a lot of HT yet. I will keep experimenting
  10. Hi, there! My name's Michelle and I started making candles about a year and a half ago. It all started when I attended a candle making workshop at my local yoga studio. It was so much fun! Soon after I bought a kit and made candles with friends. A few months later, I bought 50 pounds of c3 wax and a bunch of FOs from General Wax (a local candle factory in Los Angeles) and threw a candle making party for my birthday. I love working with my hands and even though candle making is a lot of trial and error, I've really been enjoying the process. I learn something new every time I pour I'm on a mission to learn how to make candles that look great and have amazing H/C throw. I use c3 soy wax and have been experimenting with wicks and FOs. I've tried so many wicks (HTP, CD, ECO) and have gotten better at choosing the right size wick for my containers (bigger is always better with c3!). I'm still learning how to use FO. I use 3oz for every 1lb of wax but haven't gotten a great HT yet. I buy my FOs from Flaming Candle Company and General Wax. I've heard great things about Candle Science FOs, so may try them next. I was so happy to find this forum and am blown away by the community and camaraderie. I look forward to connecting and interacting with you! I'm a newbie but HTH however I can!
