  1. oh no!!!! I was worried I was going to get that answer!!! =( I'm only at a 6% load, but I've been able to achieve a nice strong throw with that... I think Im going to cry!! haha
  2. Yes, they are the 9oz straight wall jars. I am currently using Eco 10's and have had ZERO issues, until this =/ I've only been learning and experimenting since August, but its been morning, noon and night, since I quit my job to stay home with my daughter =) Also, my husband has been helping me nights and weekends. This was actually very first time selling, so I don't have any best sellers yet! But I have about 10 testers between friends, old coworkers and my husbands coworkers as well as many more (45+) who have done "sniff tests" for us! The favorites seem to be "Sea Salt and Orchid, Egyptian Amber and Indian Sandalwood.
  3. I did MONTHS of testing with the old waxes. I did test with this new wax, but to to the extent I was doing previously. Since I "thought" I had it down. There could have been a small temperature change, but I wouldn't have thought it would be significant enough... I'm at a lost and totally worried!!
  4. Hey guys! First of all I wanted to say thanks to everyone who contributes here, I have learned SO much from this site in the past few months! This weekend I was part of my very first craft show. (I put a picture of my booth below) And I had an issue that I have not experienced previously. I took the lids off the row of candles in the front, so that potential customers could smell them. Well, after about 4 hours, I noticed that the candles appeared to be either sweating or melting... I rubbed my finger across the top of 1 and it was soft. But only the ones with the lids off, the ones with the lids on, where fine... It's was a cool day and the venue was running the heaters, but I don't think it was overly warm. My first guess was maybe the lights above my table were warm? Since the ones with lids were unaffected? But I don't know! (It was recessed lighting, so I didn't feel they were that hot) I use 464 soy wax and did notice that the batch I got for these candles was very creamy. Every other batch of 464 that I have used has been a golden clear color. (I was previously using 10 pound bags and this was my first 50 pound box) I know there have been so many issues with soy wax lately and do not know if this has contributed at all. I just want to make sure that it is not something I am doing, as I am opening my website this weekend. And now I'm super concerned that my candles are going to melt when shipped!!! I would appreciate for any advice or suggestions!!!!
  5. Hey guys, Just have a quick question, I am using 9oz straight sided jars. https://www.lonestarcandlesupply.com/straight-sided-round-jar-9oz.html They only hold 7.1 oz of wax to the fill line, I am wanting to make them 8oz candles, which requires over filling them. But I've done all my tests on 7.1 and now I'm thinking of testing filling them to 8oz. My concern is the diameter at "over fill" (the neck of the jar) is about a quarter inch smaller than the rest of the jar. Will this effect my burn or cause tunneling? (I know to do my own testing but wanted to see if this is some type of red-flag right off the bat) I'm very new to this and just wanted to check as I am about to pour a bunch of candles for my first Craft show. THANKS!! Christina
  6. Thank you for your help! =) I make all white candles - i forgot to mention that - I am concerned with them yellowing, mainly if I start getting whole sale accounts. Is this something I should be concerned with?
  7. Should I be putting UV inhibitor in ALL my candles? Or is it unnecessary when selling to individuals and only needed when selling in stores? I use 464 soy wax if that matters. Thanks!
  8. This is what I have been doing, just wanted to make sure that was right =) I've seen several companies that say "approximately" on their online listings, I just assumed that means like that much "or more" .. My size that holds 7.1, I planned to put 7oz on. Thanks for your help! =-)
  9. I plan to list the burn time of my candles. But I'm confused as to how to list the size of my candles. I think what has me confused is that my 9oz jar holds 7 oz and my 8oz jar holds 10oz or more. These are my current jars: 8OZ. APOTHECARY JAR Wax Weight (to Fill Line) - 9.9 oz. **(I filled to 10oz by weight) Volume (to Overflow) - 14.5 fl. oz. Manufacturer Spec. - 15 oz. 9OZ STRAIGHT SIDED ROUND JAR Wax Capacity (to fill line): 6.98 oz **(I filled to 7 oz by weight) Wax Capacity (Overflow): 8.69 oz Does it just go by the amount of wax I pour in? --> So Approx 10oz and approx 7oz? I feel like that is the answer and this is a dumb question, but I want to make sure Im doing it right! =-)
  10. Just wanted to see if you guys have recommendations for where to purchase clear candle labels. I have been looking at onlinelabels.com, but they don't have the exact size labels I need, they have a size that is workable but not "perfect." Looking for some a company with a large assortment of sizes. I'm needing small labels, 2.5in X 2.5-3in and/or 2in by 2-3in. Also, recommendations for printing yourself vs having them printed? I'm assuming, since I'm just starting out, printing myself be the most cost effective. But just wanted to get some advice in case there is something I may be over looking. Thanks!! =)
  11. Yes, I diff agree with this, I will price my items bas high as the market allows based on the worth of the product. I was just very surprised as I almost always see Paraffin at half the cost of soy and it is actually cheaper to make my soy candles! who knew?! But I also did not know they could burn as long! That's very interesting
  12. Right, I agree with that, I just always assumed Soy would cost more to make, but looking into Paraffin it actually would cost me more to make ... surprised me as every paraffin candle I've ever seen has always been priced MUCH lower than soy (in stores) With maybe the exception of Yankee
  13. I have been testing 100% Soy and Soy Blended waxes and am curious to try out Paraffin. But I very confused about the pricing, I know Soy burns longer and is considered to be clean burning and "higher" quality (by some). Therefore it is sold at a higher price point, however I see that Paraffin is actually more expensive per pound and that has me REALLY confused. How are paraffin candles being sold for half the price of soy candles, yet the materials are more expensive (not to mention the fact that some of these Paraffin waxes shrink). I understand that Paraffin can require less dye and fragrance... but that can't account for that large of a price difference .. What am I missing?? Also, for anyone who considered Soy but is now selling Paraffin OR vice versa, what helped you to ultimately decide to go with one over the other??
  14. I've been doing 2 weeks cure time, but that surprises me about the wicks ... I will have to try, thanks!
  15. That is good to know! Should the 2 weeks I am curing my soy candles be good and the same for the parasoy also?
  16. Thank you so much! This actually makes me feel much better knowing that higher temps will help! I really love Soy and did not want to give up on it!!
  17. I am also now seeing recommendations to add FO at much higher temps for the 464 Soy wax than recommended by my original research ... My original research seemed to suggest that would "burn off" the FO, but now I am reading that is only true of citrus or very light scents and all other scents should be added at higher temps, closer to 185??? I think the more I research the more confused I get, but I never added my FO that hot... so I'm now wondering if maybe that is the key ...
  18. At this point I'm even wondering if maybe I was just not using strong enough FO scents for the 464?? Because the Birch scent I used in the small 2oz cans is probably the strongest candle I have made! It actually has a strong HT that I would be happy with from my larger candles! But after my first order, I have only purchased scents with reviews saying they had great HT in soy or even 464 specifically, so that's why I didn't think it was my FO .. I've purchased about 20+ small 1 oz bottles of different ones, lol
  19. *I apologize in advance because this is going to be a REALLY long post! But I want to give ya’ll ALL the details so you can give the best advice =) ~ I looked around on the page yesterday and today and couldn’t see anywhere that this had been addressed. I’m Still in R&D for my candles and had a few (a bunch) of questions regarding GW 464 VS Problend 600 I started with 464 and had AMAZING CT but very little HT, my goal is for a stronger throw, so I have experimented with all different temps for when to add FO and when to pour. My 464 candles had EXCELLENT CT no matter what temp, but HT was always lacking. The candles have nice smooth tops, once I started warming the jars I got rid of most frosting and glass adhesion issues. But the HT issue is my biggest concern. I have used FO’s from Lonestar and Natures Garden, the ones I got from NG are diff stronger in my 464, and I have noticed that adding FO and pouring at the coldest possible temp has seemed to make my HT a little better, but still not nearly where I want it to be. I started with putting FO in at 165, and then got all the way down to putting FO in at 140. I stir for 2-3 minutes and then immediately pour into my jars, I’m guessing wax is probably 130-120’s by the time I pour, as I stopped measuring temps again before pouring (the thermometer I was using took too long to read-I have a new one now, lol) I have been curing my 464 candles for 1-2 weeks before testing. I am also concerned with a lot of other issues such as melting when shipping during the summer, as I plan to sell online and do not want to have to shut my business down during the summer. (I’ve seen people say they do that!) Some people seem to think this is a HUGE problem, while others seem to think that is is a non-issue… So I’m not sure how much of an issue this will be. Also I was wanting to move my operation down into the basement instead of my kitchen, as I have 2,000 sq ft of mostly unused space down there! But I read that can cause issues with soy wax, due to how much cooler the basement is than the rest of the house… Lots of other little things caused me to think that maybe I should try a para soy, as I want to keep the look and cooler burn of soy. I love the 464 but since I don’t have unlimited resources I can’t continue to waste wax & FO so I wanted to if anyone had any suggestions about this. Any suggestions for success with the 464 wax?? Or if anyone who has switched to a Para Soy blend from soy OR just loves Para soy could weigh in? FO: I am using 1oz (by weight) of FO to 1 pound of wax, I also tried 2 oz to 1 pound with no change in HT. JARS: Straight sided 9 oz (2.58 diameter) https://www.lonestarcandlesupply.com/straight-sided-round-jar-9oz.html WICKS: ECO 10 https://www.lonestarcandlesupply.com/eco-10-6-wick.html Oddly when making a sample 2oz tin with the 464 and using CD 5 wicks, my HT seems to be higher?? After less than a week of cure time. So now I’m wondering if it has anything to do with my wicks? This is so confusing! haha … I also tested it in a very small room, due to the small size of the candle, but started testing all my candles in there now, as my kitchen area is super open. I even purchased some candles from a store that were soy blend to compare (originally thought I was purchasing 100% soy as the packaging was misleading) PARASOY: So this week I got 11 pounds of the Problend 600 to start testing, my first candle is SO BEAUTIFUL and SO smooth! I thought the soy was pretty, but this one looks even better. HOWEVER, it had BARELY any CT!!! I just tested it after 48 hours and it also has a SUPER light HT! I then tested it in 2 different small rooms against my 464 (in a 9oz jar version of the candle) in the same scent and its actually a LIGHTER scent than the 464!!! =( I’m super disappointed and I don’t want to go through the whole block before getting advice, so I stopped after my first candle to ask some questions. Does para soy need the paraffin cure time or 1-2 days or the soy time of 1-2 weeks? I added my FO at 170, should I have added the FO at a higher temp? I kept the same wicks, based on my jar dia - should I have switched to a different wick? Any other suggestions for better CT AND HT with this wax??? If you have read through this WHOLE BOOK, thanks so much… any suggestions you have would be GREATLY appreciated, I thought para soy was the answer to all my problems and now Im just trying not to get super discouraged =(
