  1. I've used BCN's Frank/Myrrh with good results. I have a couple customers who are really addicted to the F/M candles. Very good scent throw (EZSoy). I don't sell a lot of these though, so I'm not making them anymore. HTH, Liz D.
  2. Thanks ChrisR! Very cool... Liz D.
  3. I'm not asking what anyone likes or dislikes. I know what I like. Sorry I didn't make that more clear. Thought it was sorta obvious. If anyone else can comment on the quality of these different styles that would be helpful. Thanks! Liz D.
  4. <<<<I get whichever ones I'm in the mood for. Is there a logical reason for the question? I guess I'm missing something in your question, since I don't know how it matters which ones I get. <<<< Well, yes there is a logical reason. In the photos, the plain ones look a bit nicer in quality. Perhaps it's just the photo. Also one is more expensive than the other. Liz D.
  5. Thanks! I will try that! I was putting the wax right into the cookie cutters and they were leaking underneath. I make my own cookie cutters, so they don't always sit flush. I was hoping to use my Ecosoya Pillar Blend, but it is far too brittle. I am going to get some of the KY wax mentioned, but before that I think I'll experiment with mixing some of the Ecosoya with some paraffin I have here. I'm thinking 50/50? Anyone do this? Liz D.
  6. Do you mean this one: KY Para/Soy Tart/Votive Blend (mp 132) Thanks, Liz D.
  7. I've made wax ornaments dipping wood shapes into wax with good success, but it is very time consuming. I'm experimenting with pouring them into cutters instead. I used some Ecosoya Pillar Blend and the wax is not hard enough. The ornaments crumble or break too easily. I'm thinking I probably have to use paraffin? Does anyone make these and have any tips or suggestions for me? Thanks! Liz D.
  8. Do you get the ones that are all different shapes, or the standard ones? Liz D.
  9. Walgreen's refills ink cartridges for about half the price. I've had good luck with them. They do it in an hour (like photos). HTH! Liz D.
  10. You don't have to use just one supplier. Most of BCN's oils do well in soy. If you go to their forum you will soon find out which ones are REALLY strong. I use probably 80% of BCN's oils, simply because I get my EZSoy from them and I try to use their oils as much as possible to save on shipping and for simplicity. I've found the following BCN FOs work well in EZsoy: Lemon Pucker (SUPER STRONG!) Creme Brulee (AWESOME!! SUPER STRONG!!) Spiced Cranberry (WOAH!!! Super strong and GREAT seller!!) Vanilla Velvet (Moderately strong, but the best vanilla out there IMO) Wildberry Zinger Tea (SUPER STRONG!) Cupid (Bubbles N Lights Line, my BEST SELLER, VERY STRONG) Twigs & Berries (run you out of the house strong!) Blueberry Muffins (super strong, not my fav oil though, didn't sell well) Country Berry Hotcakes (very strong, again not my fav) Sandalwood (VERY STRONG! Nice in cp soap as well) Mulled Cider (moderately strong) Mac Apple (WOAH... VERY STRONG) Pumpkin Pie CO (VERY STRONG!!!) Verbena Berry (AWESOME.. VERY STRONG) Grandma's Kitchen (best seller, VERY STRONG!) Lavender (good, herbal lavender, VERY strong!) Granny's Pie Crust (Bubbles N Lights, awesome scent, bugger to wick) Vanilla Grapefruit (Wick Your Wax, VERY STRONG but doesn't sell well for me) OK getting tired.. there's more but I am beat! HTH! Liz D.
  11. I add a bit of cyclo to my salts. This prevents them from getting mushy. Liz D.
  12. In my experience with customers, most do not care if it's all natural or not. Of course there is a small percentage who does ask for all natural items. I used to use more essential oils in my soaps, but soon realized the soaps that had fragrance oils in them were selling better. Again there are a couple exceptions (Lavender/Lime does great, as does Sweet Orange). I made some really awesome Rosemary Peppermint recently and it just isn't selling well. This probably is my area. People here go for the smell first and foremost, whether it's natural or not. Liz D.
  13. I use 1 oz FO pp with my soy wax. It will hold 1.5 oz FO pp, so I am not near the max. I suppose if you are using the max amt of FO that your wax will hold, then the mineral oil or crisco would cut the FO a bit. But if you are using just .5 oz crisco or mineral oil per pound, the amount of FO cut would be very minimal. IMO, from what I've learned, less FO doesn't always necessarily mean less throw. I used to use 1.5 oz FO pp. I switched to 1 oz pp and do not notice a difference on most of the scents, as long as I cure the candles. I had several testers tell me the same thing. There are a couple FOs that I feel require more, though. In general, I prefer less FO because there's less sooting and also I am not comfortable with that high of a load, just incase I would mismeasure or my scale would be off, God Forbid. Interesting subject, though! Would like to hear what others think as well. Liz D.
  14. It has no odor in the cold wax or during burning. Liz D.
  15. I use EZSoy (100% soy) and I add .5 oz pp of crisco to my wax. There are a couple advantages. First is the melt pool is improved. Much more even burning, more consistent pool, IMO. But the biggest reason I add crisco is for pouring. Even at 98, the wax doesn't get real slushy and start to set up at the end of the pour. I can pour very easily without having to rush and without my spigot getting clogged in the end. I didn't have to change my wicking either. HTH! Liz D.
  16. wookie130, You are right. The regular jelly jar lids do not fit the wide mouth masons. I use the regular 8 oz & 16 oz masons and love the lids. People put them back on just fine. It's the WIDE mouth mason jars that I've seen that the lids are very difficult to get on. You just give up and sorta get annoyed and move on, not wanting to spend your time struggling with the lid of every candle you decide you want to sniff. The wide mouth are more *decorative* lids that are thicker and they don't just glide on like the regular jelly lids. I'm hoping it's just that particular lid though, and that BCN's will fit nicer. I'll email Doneen! Thanks, Liz D.
  17. I was going to add the wide mouth masons to my line, and get the rusty wide mouth covers from BCN. Today I happened to be in a shop that had the wide mouth mason candles with similar tops (they were black, bcn doesn't carry black, just the rust and zinc). Many of the lids were sorta half on and half off. They are very difficult to screw on right. Is this typical with these types of lids on the wide mouth masons? The black lids looked identical to the ones BCN has, only in different colors. I'm hoping someone can tell me if they use the ones from BCN with better luck. This display of candles looked really bad with the caps like this. Thanks! Liz D.
  18. Michelle, I checked out your site and you have absolutely gorgeous products... just so lovely. You are really good at taking pics as well. If you take them in your house, you have some really cool rooms! Liz D.
  19. I am going to experiment with a new jar and leave the soy uncolored (I've always colored mine). Just think this new jar would look great without color. Anyway, I've seen some uncolored soy candles that look pretty yellow (certain FOs). Is this a problem that some of you have? Thanks! Liz D.
  20. I prefer no wrap at all. I do put a small address label on the BACK of my soaps, with website, ingredients and scent. I love the look of unwrapped, unlabeled soap. I have displays that have an area by each scent that is labeled, so customers know what's what. HTH, Liz D.
  21. I've been using BCN's wick stickums for a long time and have always loved them. I have recently started buying my jelly jars locally though (instead of from BCN), and I notice the Kerr jellies are slightly more rounded on the bottom, so the wick stickums do not stick NEARLY as well as when I was using BCN's jars. GRRR... I'm back to using my hot glue gun now. I prefer the convenience of the stickums, but they aren't sticking great on these new jars. Liz D.
  22. I prefer mine to be similar in look and color to the ornies (opaquey white/clear), so I use either the clear craft lace or the 30 lb gauge fishing line. The fishing line is cheaper, but the craft lace looks better. I love the look of the craft lace and it stretches a bit, too. I cut mine 18". Liz D.
  23. I absolutely LOVE BCN's Granny's Pie Crust (a Bubbles N Lights oil). It does require two wicks up than normal for me, though. It is fantastic!!! Very good throw in EZsoy. Liz D.
  24. YEAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!The gal from Hobby Lobby emailed me today, and here's what she said about the Clear Treat Bags they sell (3.75x6", 100 per bag, $1.47): I am sorry for my slow reply. I received the below request while I was out of the office for a week. I have contacted our supplier and the bags are made out of polypropylene (PP). Liz D.
