  1. Wax: GW415 soy + beeswax Type: Melts/tarts Cure Time: 1-2 weeks No additives Has a mild CT and I thought a really light HT, but there are customers who love it. This might do better in a stronger concentration or other products. The pear is light, but sweet, stronger on the vanilla/cream note. This might do really well in a blend with something stronger to give it a good kick. In a small room it does really well on its own.
  2. Wax: GW415 soy + beeswax Type: Melts/tarts Cure Time: 1-2 weeks No additives I've tried a lot of dragonfruit scents, and they always come out weak. This is the exeception. Just made tarts with this and even with only 1 day in the cure corner it has amazing CT. OOB it was strong too. I have high hopes for this on HT, it has the right kind of fruit notes that tend to throw well and carry. If you've given up on dragonfruit scents, give this one a shot.
  3. Does anyone have a good blend for a Cinnamint? Had a customer request a Scentsy dupe, so I tried SOS's version but it's really weak. I decided to try blending my own but I'm not a natural at this blending thing. Hoping that someone might have a good nose for this or an existing blend they like. I thought of trying RE's Celtic MoonSpice and a little bit of Peppermint and a little bit of Wintergreen, but after I bombed so bad on trying a coconut mint blend (made me gag) I'm afraid to shoot from the hip again. Any advice is much appreciated!
  4. My biggest concern with the mergers was that they'd start dumping some of the JS and RE scents, and they did. Right away. Even though the JS Aveda dupes were more expensive, the quality was worth it. Shampure flies off the shelves for me, and I didn't want to compromise on that. I finally ran low on Rosemary Mint and went to get another bottle and poof, it was just gone from the JS catalog. My heart sank. No warning, no clearance, no sale, just GONE. Yeah it's nice that the WSP site allows you to search by company but doesn't that look weird to everyone, having 4 different brands in the same shop and some of them carry the same scents? IMHO their catalog is a MESS now, and the timing for fulfillment and shipping sucks. RE was one of the very first companies I started buying from, and while their shipping costs were higher, the customer service was top-notch. I never had to wait a week to have an order processed. Now it takes 2-3 weeks. I saw the collective groan out here when RE sold. They both carry exclusives I'm afraid to see go. I can't help but think of the employees out of their jobs too. Good news though is there are a lot more newer carriers popping up. I live in the Omaha, NE area and always complained we didn't have anything within driving distance. Finally someone opened a shop out here. There's nothing like being able to walk into a place and get your stuff in real time, smell oils before buying and being able to grab emergency clamshells or beeswax in a day, not get stuck waiting in some insane queue. I was so jealous of everyone working with a local supplier. I suppose one good thing came out of the merger....free shipping!
  5. Used in wax melts and home-made spray perfume (20-25% fragrance oil, 75-80% Everclear) also blend with Pure Seduction. Second that, it's a great dupe. It really comes alive in blends. This seems to be a thicker oil than the other fragrances. I used to mix the VS versions of Pure Seduction and Vanilla Lace perfumes, and honestly the FO's smell about the same. Tends to melt light in tarts though. So far all the customers I've had that buy it say it's a dead-ringer for the original VS perfume.

Wax Type: GW415 soy + beeswax blend Type: Melts Cure Time: 1 week CT: Great HT: Even Greater No additives This is the Bath & Body Works dupe, and it's ON POINT. Used to hoard the plug-ins for it, my favorite Fall scent. Eucalyptus, Fir, Gala Apple and Fig. This is the ONLY place I could find it after looking for years. If you like the BBW version you gotta get this. The throw is great and it lasts for days. Carries really well also. The fir and eucalyptus are really off-set by the apple, just an all around gorgeous scent that's a little different from the other fall scents, doesn't have the spice note to it and the apple isn't really obviously "apple" if you know what I mean.
  7. Wax: GW415 soy + beeswax blend Type: Melts Cure Time: 1 week CT: Light HT: Medium-ish Although this tends to throw on the lighter side, it's the most popular tobacco scent I sell. It's the only tobacco scent CM carries that actually performs, in my experience. Nice earthy scent, well-balanced and smells just like the name. The tobacco isn't overly sweet, and the patchouli isn't overpowering.
  8. Wax: GW415 soy + beeswax blend Type: Melts Cure Time: 1 week CT: Good HT: Fantastic I have a lot of complaints about Candlemaker's Store scents being weak, but this is a happy exception. Best way to describe this is green with aquatic notes. One of my best consistent sellers I put in the "spa/clean" category. Very refreshing.
  9. Wax used: GW415 soy - Wax Melts/Tarts Fragrance load (%): 10% Cure time: 7 days Cold throw: Good Hot Throw: Excellent This has to be one of the most underrated scents I've come across. It's AWESOME! Hot throw is amazing and it lasts for days in wax melts. I struggle with a lot of scents in my space, but this one does fantastic. Even people who don't think they would like it end up loving it.
  10. Patchouli Passion - It's a nice enough scent, more of a perfume type, but it's a little milder than most of the patchouli types I've tried. Not so in-your-face, kind of level with Vanilla Patchouli.
  11. What is it with coconut scents? It seems every one that I've tried is weak or has a funky fake/metallic tone to it. Caribbean Coconut from Indigo is the only one I've been impressed by. I'm anxious to try the Coconut Bay - wasn't that a Yankee Candle scent?
  12. Just found the site when looking for a specific scent, and I was curious if anyone has tried them out yet? They're not on the review list. Website is newyorkscent.com
  13. I struggled with this too and I think Maple Street Candle's version is spot on. It actually has a hot throw in candles.
  14. I didn't think about the carnation - thank you for that! That's a great suggestion. I'm using a chart that lists all the florals and herbs/spices that are associated with gemstones. Kind of like how months and signs of the zodiac have stones & flowers known as your birth flower or birthstone. I know it's not really commonly known that stones have associations too, but they do. So that's what I'm trying to stick to. Some are easy to work with, but others are just blech. That's why I realized I was going to have to add things that aren't in there to make a fragrance smell less like a science experiment and more like a real fragrance you'd like to have in your home. I'm sticking to fragrance oils that I can blend easily, but I did pick up some key notes that might help I'm just not good at knowing which key notes to add to what type of scents. This is getting way more complicated than I wanted it to! I will definitely check out the link and do some more research. Thank you!
  15. They're hitting up people on tags? That's just mean. If you put a tag for pink sugar on a product that isn't named pink sugar, that seems kind of overreaching for them to ding you on it. Well it's Etsy. I heard they were getting really gestapo-ish for new sellers. They're finding new fees to stick us with too. It seems so counterproductive; you're just going to drive off your sellers, and if we've learned anything with this cancel culture, when you drive people away they will go out and build their own platforms/sites and realize they're better off without you. I was hoping Gab's new marketplace was going to be a competitor for platforms like eBay and Etsy, but it's nothing like them. I guess it's something to try, but I can't see it really working out for the kind of stuff we do especially if you have a lot of product to move. TallTayl did have a good suggestion by using "inspired by" especially in the header, because no one reads descriptions in the listings. Best of luck to you! And don't worry, if they do come at you with a copyright infringement thing, it's just a warning message and they deactivate your listing that you can't reactivate, so all you have to do is make a new listing with a different name. You're not going to get fined or sued or anything.
  16. I've been working on a project for a year now (well, more like I worked on it for two weeks and got frustrated and sidelined it) and I realized I'm not good at this, so I'm putting out a plea for good blenders who know a thing or two about notes. I would like to work with someone local, but at this point any advice is helpful. I'm trying to develop "gemstone" scents that stick to the florals and elements associated with the stones. They aren't always the greatest combinations and make blending a real chore. The problem is even when I can find a workable blend, there's something missing from them. I picked up some samples of things like Floral Aldehyde, Pink Peppercorn, Ozone, etc. but I am not good with notes at all and don't really know what to use when to get things to really mesh. The blending charts are great, the problem is I'm not just making up scents, I'm working with a limited list of what is associated with the stones. For example, the working blend I have for Opal is Water Lily and Sandalwood. It has a nice powdery quality to it, the problem is it's missing something to really pull it together. The same with Garnet - Cinnamon and Rose. It sounds like it would be a fantastic scent, but it isn't (I tried several types of cinnamon scents including a dry apothecary version and a sweet one). I'm open to adding an element to give it that final kick, I just don't know what it is (I know it'll vary from combo to combo). A lot of the scents we know and love are layered with so many notes that we'd never expect to be in there, and I think that's where I'm falling short. This is an intensive process, and I would really love to partner with someone with some background knowledge and a good nose. I make jewelry in addition to wax melts, and I really want to make samples of wax melts for the birthstones to send along with jewelry purchases. This whole project was actually inspired by a customer who makes subscription boxes and wanted to find scents to match themes. I didn't want to create my own version of what I think Rose Quartz smells like or buy someone else's idea of it, I want to create something that uses the actual associations. Garnet for example is red rose, geranium, cinnamon, copal and pine, which is how I got cinnamon rose. Right now I'm working with SOS sniffies, but if there's another company that sells good notes to experiment with I am all ears! I did already scour Basenotes for some topics/advice. I realize this is more of a 'perfumery' type of thing, but I'm using fragrance oils not perfume oils and it's only for wax products, and seeing as how there are so many out here who blend their own scents a lot for candles, I was hoping someone might be willing to pitch in. Frankly I'm floored by some of the blends people come up with. You guys are amazing.
  17. I've been hit with "copyright infringement" notices on Etsy more times than I can count. It's frustrating - if an oil manufacturer doesn't indicate it's a trademarked name, how are you supposed to know that? I got hit for Clean Cotton, which I thought was the most ridiculous one of all. I also got hit for one that had "type" in the listing too so I'm not so sure that always works and Etsy never gave me a straight answer when I challenged them on that, so this is what I do - name it something similar but in your tags use the original name that way if someone's looking for Pink Sugar your listing for Pink Diamonds will still come up. Use the heck out of the tags, every variation of the product/name as you can. It works. Even just spelling it slightly different gets you off the hook, too. Kinda like all those designer perfume knock-offs that were popular in the '90's. FYI - don't ever use Cuban and Tobacco in the same listing on Etsy. They don't even check to see what the product is, they just immediately deactivate it.
  18. Have you tried Strawberry Buttercream from Rustic Escentuals? Gives you the strawberry and frosting in one. Also Graham Cracker (SOS) works better for me with the bakery blends than Pie Crust does. It just has a little more oomph to it. I get the Ultra concentration. Also what about Frankenberry, the cereal? Indiana Candle Supply carries it. I don't know if it will pass the smell test but it has all the layers built in, maybe just tweak it a little to smell more like a pop tart.
  19. I've been using Nature's Garden's Hyacinth. SOS has great realistic florals, but NG's version has been popular enough that I've stuck with it.
  20. Whaaat?? I kinda get it with the bottles being hard to get but I'm like you...I don't always have the money or the use for a full pound. That's a big jump from 1 oz to 1 lb. Wow. Thanks for the heads up! I just ordered from them last night and had no idea.
  21. I know this is an older thread but I saw no one commented on this. I too thought that was an issue with my tarts, but I tried adding oils at lower temperatures based on their flashpoints...guess what? TANKED. They didn't throw hardly at all - if at all - when melting after a cure. I was part of a convo once where someone laughed about the idea of scents "burning off" if added at higher temps. I thought it made sense but the truth is you lose scent anyway no matter what temp because it's going to emit scent while it's cooling, but from my own experience adding oil at a cooler temp was a total failure. They smelled fine cold, but melting...nada. Pumpkin Pecan Waffles was the oil that had the most drastic results, and that's usually quite a thrower as scents go.
  22. NOOOOO! Why do they always get rid of the good ones?
  23. Ha ha! It happens to the best of us. You buy so much stuff from so many places, you don't remember them all. I totally get it!
  24. I only get mine from Fillmore (once my supplier retired and I figured out they were cheaper in bulk). No funky odors at all, quite durable, and I've rarely had leaks/holes. Maple Street has the best deal on the small square tart molds (I use those for samples), but for full clam shells I found that Fillmore has the most cost effective choice without compromising on quality. I don't know how far it is to ship for you - I'm in NE - but boy, the shipping from other suppliers is outrageous! Fillmore seems like a steal by comparison. One thing to beware of though, if you order them by the case the boxes they ship in are kinda flimsy. I had one start to split open when the UPS guy dropped it off.
  25. Does anyone know of an oil company that carries "gemstone" scents? I've seen Rose Quartz and Amethyst but am looking for things like Garnet, Diamond, etc. I've seen a line of birthstone candles, so I was curious if there's an FO company that does them that isn't showing up in my search results. If there isn't one, are there any experienced blenders that would be willing to work together to create some? I had a jewelry maker approach me about including scent sample wax melts with her jewelry boxes, and I thought this was a great idea. I'm also a jewelry maker specializing in birthstones, and if I could include a sample size of "gemstone scents" I thought this would be an awesome way to self-promote and join in variety subscription boxes. I put together a list of all the associated flowers and herbs for the major stones, I'm just not sure how to go about creating a whole new scent from scratch.
