  1. Also....does anyone have a recommended source to sell the low smoke zincs?
  2. Just stumbled across these while surfing a bit. Do these actually work vs a standard zinc to reduce smoking? How are they sized? I can not find them in a wick chart to start testing. I am testing status jars which measure a little over 3" with 4630 and J-50 separately. 51's are recommended for standard zincs.
  3. Thinking of making a few candles in soy using essential oils instead of traditional FOs. Using C-3, status jars, no color. I wanted to get some insight as to what to expect from wicks (similar burn to FOs or not), to throw both cold and hot and other considerations. I have been reading quite a bit on the forum and it sounds like a recipe for issues. Thanks for your feedback as always.
  4. I agree. It is very soft and pellets its not. I could not get a combination of a CD wick not mushroom like crazy. Throw is great. I was testing in status and small salsa jars. Did you find one to work? What jar?
  5. What wax or blend do you use for your containers?
  6. Would like suggestions/comments/experiences for blending 4630 with soy or other waxes like 4786. I interested in testing and developing a blend. Thanks!
  7. Ditto. I only have a small process and I will always re-weigh when melted prior to adding FO and dye.
  8. I will be testing 4630 over the weekend. Would like to hear some feedback on optimal pour temps and whether you heat your jars or not. I have contacted several suppliers and have heard a wide variety of answers and ranges. Thanks!
  9. Thanks for posting the wick guide ! I have seen the wick guide before. The issue is what few range do you start testing with. There are 5-8 wicks for every container range.
  10. Is Unity Wood Wicks the same as BCN? Do you have the link for their site?
  11. Old Glory, Thanks again for the response. Since there is a huge selection of Premier wicks which ones would be most comparable in size to the CD-20, CD-12 and CD-10 as a good starting point?
  12. A presto is a fryer that is used to melt wax. Can be found at Walmart and other places. It holds about 6lbs of melted wax. The temp control helps to melt the wax slowly. There is a person that has modified them with a convenient pour spout you can google. It is more cost effective solution than larger melt devices for smaller candle operations and eliminates the need for he double boiler.
  13. I was intrigued by the Hybrid wax description and details, wanted to try a blend and thought I would give it a try. Think its 70/30 blend soy to paraffin. Truly a 'one pour' wax, great CT and HT, good adhesion BUT wicks are mushrooming. Using CD wicks. Melt pool is good. Tried wicking with 6 and 8% FO. No change. Hard to switch wicks with everything working out but the mushrooming. To what extent is mushrooming acceptable? What other wicks would you recommend? Premier looks like a good option but there are so dang many options. Wicking 26 oz apothecary, 12 oz libby status and small salsa jars. Thanks as always !
  14. How did the remainder of your test go? I ordered a sample of the Hybrid wax today. Looks like it holds color well!
  15. Moonshine, Do you use 3022? If so why did you choose over the other soy blend options?
  16. Does anyone have a current source for 3022 to purchase? I have read many threads about this wax. I am wanting to try/test a blend and this looks promising. any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all!
  17. Jcandleattic, Are you using a Parasoy blend for containers?
  18. We occasionally need to do a second pour particularly on larger jars. Was curious to know how others plan and execute to make it happen. We typically pour multiple FOs and colors each time we pour. How do you keep the additional wax for the second pour? We have four pour pots but are continually using them for the main pour. How do you keep the reserve wax and reheat? More pour pots? If using a presto how is the reserve wax heated? We use C-3 soy. What temps are you heating the wax for the second pour? Many thanks for any response.
  19. Old Glory, The height of the cube is 3.3" and 3.5 " across in basically a square. Thanks.
  20. Has any one successfully used a wood wick for a glass glow palm container candle. Considering trying a wood wick in a cube jar. I think it would make a nice looking candle. Thanks!
  21. Candybee, What was your thought on the content of the classes at Candles and Supplies?
  22. Does anyone offer any classes for making container candles. My wife and I are new and want to learn the best techniques to incorporate into our small venture. Travel is not an issue. We are interested in learning proven pouring techniques for soy or blend candles. Thanks!!
  23. TallTayl, I am not familiar with CDN 12 IIRC, What is the IIRC portion of the wick description?
