  1. Make up some sort of price/scent/item list, whether it's a brochure, pamplet, or sheet. Make up samples that you can afford to give to them. It cost me $1.77 to make an 8 oz candle, that is worth it, if I acquire a wholesale customer. Approach one or two business in an area at a time. If they do not want to carry your product, then approach others in the same area. You don't want to approach 10 stores and then 10 stores want your candles. You would saturate the area and you wouldn't have reorders. Whatever you do, try and figure out how you want to handle everything, pricing, shipping, delivery, etc. Because once you start something, you will end up sticking with it to avoid losing a customer. Good Luck
  2. I received an email also, as a reminder.
  3. I do not make pillars, so I purchase mine wholesale from another chandeler. I pay $4.75 for 3x6 rustics and $3.70 for 3x4 rustics. I sell the 3x4's for $8.49 and the 3x6's for $10.49 with no problem. But, I have a store. Festivals and craft shows are always lower in prices compared to store pricing. Not sure what your avenue of selling is. Their traditional pillars are $4.30 for 3x6 and $3.30 for 3x4's. HTH
  4. Vanilla definitely needs a cure with the 435. I always make my friend a candle with SS's Country Vanilla and when I switched to the 435, she noticed. She said it's not as strong. I made some for her and let them cure for two weeks. I am still waiting on a reply on those candles (she's been on vacation). I would say that the 435 does need a cure time. Just my opinion.
  5. Golden Brands 444 is a very dry soy wax. It will leave frosting. Right now I have some and I am just trying to get rid of it, so I am adding it to the wax I use (GB435), plus Coconut Oil and another wax AND it still leaves frosting. Now, my concoction of wax without the 444 does not frost (much), so I know by adding (even a little) of the 444, it frosts. Good LUck
  6. Here's the secret. . . .ready?? I have found out with any soy, if you do not get a smooth top when pouring and you have to use a heatgun. You have to wait to use the heat gun. If you wait and let it sit overnight, then when you hit it with the heatgun, the tops smooth out. If you do it, while the soy is still setting up, you end up with the grainy tops. I have fought and fought with tops trying to get a smooth top on the same day I pour, and just end up with uglier and uglier tops everytime I hit it with heat. Once I started to wait until the next day, they all smoothed out for me. Hope this helps.
  7. Does anyone have any information on suppliers for taper holders wholesale? thanks
  8. Just some info, Staples has a $250.00 instant rebate right now off the HP 3600n printer. And if you receive coupons and stuff from Staples, you can use those also. I just bought it, tax included for $224.00, delivered free. HTH
  9. Just tell her to bring it back and you will certainly give her her money back. Let her know that you definitely do not want her to be a dissatisfied customer. I would test one that is from the same batch and see what happens. Most likely, it is her nose. Tell her you are trying to figure it out and ask her if she asked anyone else if they could smell it when they walked in the house. Here's a true story. I used to make candles at home. I ordered pizza one night and when the delivery guy came to the door, I could smell how delicious the pizza smelled when he was standing there. He says, "Hmmm, it smells good". I thought to myself, you just drove over here with it and you couldnt' smell it then. What happened was, I could smell the pizza and all he could smell was my house. Here at the store, I cannot smell what the front of the store smells like, but everyone that walks through that door, comments on how good the store smells. I have to be honest and tell them, I have no clue what your smelling, but I think it's everything mixed together. Good Luck
  10. I just had to do the same thing. I just wrote the numbers down. Triple check the numbers and the expiration. As long as they sign it after you write it, that is legal. Hope this helps Make sure you get their phone number on the slip.
  11. This place has the green dropper bottles, but not exactly the size you are looking for. www.Sunburstbottle.com
  12. Good Company, I purchase my vials through them. www.sunburstbottle.com
  13. Thank You and Good Luck Search for the perfect place. Don't settle for the first building you see. Everything happens for a reason, remember that when things don't go perfectly. That's fate telling you to stop and think. If you follow your heart, you'll find your shop. Thanks
  14. Hi Everyone I am currently in need of a supplier for CP soaps. I used to purchase from Brenda, Briar Lane Soaps, but she has set that side of her business aside for awhile. I make MP soaps and Soy Candles, but I just do not have the time to learn how to create CP soap right now. I would rather leave that to the experts-you!! Here is what I am looking for. Hopefully, someone in Michigan. We have most of our handmade items, made in Michigan. I will consider others, if the quality is excellent. CP Soaps that are about 5 oz in size and made from a flat mold, rather than a loaf mold. (if that makes sense) I would like for the soaps to lather nicely and be on the harder side. If anyone is interested, please email me or call. If you have a website for me to look at, please send that. I own a gift store in Wyandotte, Michigan. Candles Soaps & Stuff My email is candlessoapsandstuff @ wowway.com Our phone number is 734-225-4420 Thank You Tracy Candles Soaps & Stuff
  15. General rule for pricing is 2 x's cost for wholesale 2 x's wholesale for retail but, if you think that $1.00 is a little much for it, then look at it like this. What would you pay? Sometimes, you have to reduce the price a bit. If you think $1.00 is too much, which is kinda sounds like you do, make it $.75 or something like $0.65. As long as you are making money for the cost and your time. Good Luck
  16. I would sell them for $1.00 each. And if they purchased a good amount, I would offer them a 10% discount. HTH
  17. After you place your order, do not take advantage of their $10 rewards program. That's what is happening. You think you're getting $10.00 off of something, but in the fine print, it signs you up for something.
  18. If you check out the top of this page, vistaprint has an ad. How messed up is that??????
  19. It reminds me of a lava lamp!! Does anyone else see the owl in the second row of soaps?
  20. In my store, I sell more 24 oz candles. They seem to be more popular. I double wick them, so they get their monies worth. I know some people don't like large candles with only one wick, because of the hangup left in the jar. I sell my 24 oz for $20.99 or 2/$40.00. That price might go up when I purchase my next pallet of soy wax.
  21. www.bravenet.com they offer a free mailing list and newsletter builder, among other things.
  22. They should have purchased insurance, but you should've either had them buy it or informed them that if the package ended up damaged or missing that you were not responsible. I would let them know that it happened in shipping and you would be willing to split the difference, since it was neither of your faults.
  23. I would not raise the prices of the products, themselves, but I would make sure that there is a minimum per year in place. Like so much per quarter to keep them exclusive. Or, they have to carry such a percentage of your products. Say, like they must stock 75% of whichever line they decide to carry. This way, they don't order just a few items and they are the only store carrying your product, but choose to only have a few items. If they are forced to carry the entire line or almost the entire line, it is good for you and them. I own a store, and I don't think I would like the raising of the price per item, but I would be okay with the minimum per year or the % of items I had to keep in stock. This is just my opinion as a candle & soap maker and a gift store owner.
  24. I have two business names. My store name is Candles Soaps & Stuff, which is my original name, and my candle & soap line is Northern Candle Company. My official name is Candles Soaps & Stuff and that's what my tax id is under. Northern Candle Company is a dba. I registered that with the state for $25.00 or something like that. So, all of my candles and soaps have Northern Candle Company on them. Hope this Helps
