  1. I am gonna give cut and carve candles a try:yay: and I need some 6 point star molds. A while back a link was posted for place that had candle molds at great prices. Anyone remember what it was? Or know one near TN that has them? Also how much difference would useing a 5 point instead of the 6 point make? TIA
  2. Where is the site that has what colors to mix to make different colors? I have searched and cant find it. I am attempting to make smelly jelly and the colors are kinda sad. I have a pack of neon and a pack of basic colors of food coloring. Anyone have any suggestions for a mixture to get a color for mulberry?
  3. Carved candles (like the ones Bruce does) is my goal! I ordered me 6 star shaped polyurethane molds and I was gonna make me a bunch of core candles before I started to dip and carve. When I poured them they had air bubbles, I tapped on the sides but the air bubbles weren’t coming up fast enough to suit me. So here I go with THE HEAT GUN! Bubbles started flying to the tops and I was so proud until a mold’s bottom melted and fell over. No problem, I cleaned the wax and mold up and propped it up with wick sealer. I was oh so careful not to melt the rest . I poured them, left them by a cracked window so they could cool. Next morning, 5 of the molds were cracked and none of the candles were coming out. I had to melt the wax in the one that wasn’t cracked. The oops I do most is hold molds with paper towels, heat them with my GUN, wipe out the melted wax, lay that towel down that I wipe with and grab the mold with that hand to sit it down. A few other oops I have done is: went wick happy and put 5 wicks in a candle that needed 3 used a 3” wick pin in a 4” mold and had it way off center poured repours in votives too cool and had the repoured part fall off when I took the wick pin out My oops for today is running out of glue sticks and not wanting to stop and go get more. I found one that had red dye on it. I cut the red parts off and I have been using about a forth of what I usually use.
  4. I have everything ready to make sweet pea candles but.......the color! What color are they and how many drops to get the color? I have red, blue, yellow dye drops. Also isnt there a place that has color suggestions? Anybody got the link? Thanks Bunches!
  5. Strawberry Shortcake and Cucumber Melon flavored hotdogs!
  6. I melted some candles down and made these today.
  7. All was melted and new master pieces were made. No fire! If it did catch on fire I WAS going to check the temp of the wax before putting the fire out and report back to yall!
  8. I am remelting some of my master pieces gone wrong...I just checked and the melted part is 175 degrees. Is there any chance of the melted temp getting high enough to set fire before all of the candle is melted?
  9. What size font do yall need? It looks bigger on my computer than the other fonts in post.
  10. I have gone candle making crazy! When I get time to slow down I will post some pics in the gallery. I made a mold out of a cake pan. This mold holds 2 pounds of wax with 4 oz of FO. This gets the cold and hot throw that I want. This candle I made with my new mold came out so perfect! It set on my kitchen table until to day when I decided to burn it. I lit all 5 wicks and it was gorgeous! I had my back to it while I was working on other candles and after about 30 min I turned around to check on it and it was awful. The whole top looked like a bowl of wax about to pour out on the table. I am going to try smaller wicks because I like the look with 5. I might have to go to fewer wicks. Can I remelt this candle instead of using fresh wax and FO to make another candle to test wicks with? I also have an oops candle that I wicked with pretabed wicks, stucked the tab in the wax just when the bottom was hard enough to hold the tab. Well when I took it out of the mold…for some reason I cut the wicks off even with the candle on top thinking I was trimming the wick on the bottom. I would like to remelt and reuse that wax also.
  11. I am new too! You will need lots of paper towels and a heat gun is also a great thing to have to fix mess ups with.
  12. Now you know I dont know what titanium dioxide is. Sounds like something I might blow up the house with:undecided
  13. Candle making is more fun than when I partied til the sun came up! Today while I test burned the container candles from yesterday I made votives in Dixie cups- they turned out ok, carved a candle – it kinda looked like I chopped it with an ax and I made a pillar. Well….it looks like its kinda puney. Whats the spots and what can I do to fix them? The white thingy isn’t a tape worm it’s the wick that I should have cut or hid before I took the picture.
  14. I ask these questions in another thread but I think they got lost so I am asking again:confused: Will it matter how many times I remelt a candle when I am trying to fix one? I only had 1oz of the orange sherbert FO and I really like the scent. Will it be ok to experiment with the wax and dye, get it the right color, let it harden then remelt it and add FO when I get it? I started with 1oz of FO in the candles I made. I want to increase the FO because the cold throw isnt what I want. How much should I increase it by at a time? If I get too much FO in a candle, will I be able to see the FO that the wax wouldnt take? Has anyone got pics of some messed up candles (too much FO, pored at wrong temps, etc.)so I can see what a messed up candles looks like? Thanks
  15. Pam- I did good to make the candle...do you really think I can make seeds to go on top? LOL I reread what you said ...I thought you said it needed seeds on top.
  16. Thanks for the help. Special thanks to SatinDucky for helping me post the pics :highfive: . Made my first candle and posted a link to a pic! I am on a roll! :embarasse More questions... My goal isnt to Max out the amount of FO the wax will hold but get a great smelling candle. I aint trying to make mega max scented candles! TIA
  17. I added dye, FO and poured between 170 and 175 degrees.
  18. When I did the orange sherbert, I started with 5 drops of orange and tested it on paper. I think it would have been fine but I went drop crazy and added 5 more and then it was a pumpkin color. I am sure this is the first of many mess ups. Will it matter how many times I remelt a candle when I am trying to fix one? I only had 1oz of the orange sherbert FO and I really like the scent. Will it be ok to experiment with the wax and dye, get it the right color, then remelt it and add FO when I get it? Any suggestions on the cucumber melon candle? I think I got the picture posted.
  19. How do I put the picture on here? I been trying forever.
  20. This is my first time trying to post a pic and I hope I am doing it right. I have read so much before making my first candle today but I still dont know where I went wrong. I used: 1 pound IGI 4630 wax 1oz cucumber Melon FO 10 drops Honey Dew Dye See later post for pics. Please help! Does anyone know what's wrong and what I can do to fix it. I also make strawberry shortcake scented candles and I love the color of them. I made Orange Sherbert scented candles but the color looks more like a pumpkin orange instead of an orange type of orange. kwim? I used orange 10 drops of dye. Can I remelt it and add yellow to lighten it? Thanks, Brenda
  21. Thanks for the info. I am just about ready to attempt my first candle!
