What method were you using,hp or cp? What fo did you use? The more we know the more we can help;) .

I love peaches n cream fo. I wondered if the carrot puree would be the thing to add to my soap recipe to get a peach color. How dark does the carrot soap get? Do any of you have good luck using a peach scent.Mine fades quickly but is so great at first.

The thermometer reads 115 today. My dehumidifier has been running since April.I store mine in unused pizza boxes I get locally, in the basement with dehumidifier running.This has been an unusual summer here in western Pa. Tons of rain and heat. Feels like the tropics. Think cool. Hope you all get some relief from the drought and heat.Thanks for the input.

Pillar candles will blow out if wicked too hot. A pillar that burns well during the first third of the candle,will have increased heat and melting as it burns further down,causing the sides to melt thru in spots,causing the sides to blow out. It is nearly impossible to get a pillar candle to totally burn up.Will always have a shell. This shell can be used again by putting a small votive or tealight candle inside it. The shadows that are produced are beautiful to watch.HTH

A votive essentially becomes a small container candle when lit and allowed to fully melt(the candle becomes a complete liquid).If burnt in a container that is too big, the top melts and the melt pool usually breaks down the side and the candle burns unevenly.The snug fitting votive holder keeps it burning evenly.Never give up on a candle you like.HTH:highfive:

Do most of you add 1 tbsp of sugar per pound of oils to the lye water for increasing the lather? :rolleyes2

I never heard of these salt bars. Sounds like an interesting recipe. Can I substitute more moisturizing oils for 100 % coconut oil? Seems like it would be drying.Does this have an exfoliating action,does the salt dissolve in the soap mix? Questions,questions,questions.Can tell we are all getting cabin fever and looking for fun things to make.I am used to CP soap and always trying to get more lather.Any info greatly appreciated.:rolleyes2

I use the putty with success, but I also use wick pins with my pillar mold. Email me if you want more info on how I do it.

Starting out can be costly and frustrating. I think using the kits from craft stores is a good way to get your feet wet. The kits give you everything you need to get a successful candle. From there I started testing samples of parafin wax,soy wax and mixing the 2 into a 50 50 blend. From this I decided that I needed to make soy candles as the parafin and my asthma did not get along. I got on the internet and scoured for suppliers that were nearest to me , so I could keep the cost of shipping down. Many of the suppliers now provide small amounts of wax for you to test with the molds that you have from the kits. This allows you to decide what type of candles you want to make for now,pillar,votive or container. This may change as you get more experienced. Following the forums that are available on the internet will help you,too. It seems we all started out with the same questions and we all experienced the same "whoops",how did that happen? I do think that you can get a lot of help from this forum.No one thinks there is such a thing as a "dumb question".I hope you have success with your new project. Welcome aboard.

It certainly looks like it would do the job, especially since it can weigh up to 15 pounds. Is it small enough to slip into a large zip loc bag to protect it from spills? This is what I do with my Walmart food scale as I am not the neatest chandler. Good luck with it.

I make pillars and votives with Ecosoya PB wax. I use a CD6 for my votives and they burn great. HTH:D I'm sorry, you can't slap this smile off my face. Go Steelers!!!!!!!

I think everyone has to test,test,test which soy wax they like best. I have been using Ecosoya PB, but it also frosts. I added one oz of liquid soy(Crisco oil)to a pound of the wax and it seems to smooth out the finish. I am looking for a better soy wax as I cannot burn parafin candles due to asthma and the soy candles do not bother me.I will be reading this post with great interest. Go Steelers.
