I have nothing positive to say about AccuBlend when they're marketing new waxes.  Formulas change and they deny it only to later recant and admit a change has occurred. Please do a marathon burn in a metal bucket--don't trust that they won't be making intermediate changes to the wax and be provided blatant misinformation.  You need to test EVERY new wax lot. I watched another maker almost learn the hard way.

I agree.. their waxes are not great imo  and they change too much because of where they source their raw materials..

  2. @WaxingPoetic I'm not impressed with the #43 Olive Oil wax from AccuBlend either.. it's very picky with scents - some throw, some don't .. it needs to be tweaked a lot.. I think it definitely needs more paraffin.. according to one of the wax makers at AccuBlend, this wax also contains coconut, soy and a small amount of paraffin.. and THERE'S NO WAY this is a no cure wax.. no vegetable wax is .. bad marketing imo

  3. Has anyone tried the new OLIVE OIL blends available now? Dulceria, Kandila, and Sunshine Candle Supply all have one. I and NOT impressed with the Dulceria version that I received, but they recently tweaked it. Using 8% fragrance, the ct/ht is very weak and they have boasted zero cure time with amazing ct/ht.  Both Dulceria and Kandila get theirs from AccuBlend, but I was told they aren't quite the same formula. Sunshine Candle Supply uses a different mfg. They sell this wax on their ETSY site.

  4. Hey, I just wanted to give you all an FYI- the 4630 and 6006 waxes are NOT made by IGI, these are blends made exclusively for VA Candle Supply. The Coconut Apricot wax is NOT Ceda Serica Coco Apricot made by Calwax, nor is the Coconut 83 made by Accublend. Both of these blends are made exclusively for VA Candle Supply.. I got this information directly from Phil, the owner.

Thank you so much @ErronB maybe I should try the Calwax version! The color is very different now even with Candlewic, its no longer white upon arrival - it went to a yellow almost like soy. It's so strange. I am going to try pouring hotter! Thank you so much!

I know this post is a year old, but the Candlewic coco apricot IS ceda serica coco apricot from Calwax.. they just have it delivered in liquid form and they slab it themselves

Try 6 - 7 per cent, that performs well. If cd wicks to not try UC wicks, like notch down from CD.

I made a 4in diameter wick less tester candle Sept. 2021 with 6% frangrace- white pumpkin from C&S. I completely forgot about it lol but found it the other day and decided to test 3 Aroma Lite 80 wicks in it.  WOW!!! The Hot throw is incredible and so far the burn is beautiful and steady. So I bought more 6098 from C&S .. a case is less than $100 before shipping which is really good imo. I'm going to give this wax another go and I'll continue with the 6-7% and I'll test CD wicks as well ..

Recently several fellow chandlers have noted the latest SP487 smells weird and does not look the same while cooling, or after cooled.

Swans candles has/had a note on their site that there was a possibly “bad” batch of sp487 that was being corrected.

I’ve been playing with, liking this wax. Please don’t tell me this one’s gone toes up too.

Hive and Honey is carrying the SP 487 now, they just got a batch in and the owner has assured me that it is the correct formula- the bad batch had one wrong ingredient in it.. it smelled horrible, but I found the smell undetectable in finished candles and it performed as it should   Here is the website https://hiveandhoneycandleco.com/

  8. I'll get it at Candles &Supplies.. I made a tester last Sept. with 6% fragrance and just lit it yesterday. Oh wow! I used 3 Aroma Lite 80 wicks because the jar is 4in and the hot throw and burn were magnificent!  I remember testing the 6098 last year and getting a lot of soot from wicks- I'm guessing I didn't let it cure long enough. What wicks do you like in the 6098?

I did some tests with it. Good for opaque jar candles. Not widely available

  9. 9% throws good, and I also made an 11% tester.. this wax can easily hold 12% even though it doesn't say it can.. no seepage.. I think wax mfg stay on the safer side with fragrance % ... I've used HTP 93 in a 3.2in 16oz straight sided jar and and AL 140-180 depending on the fragrance. (Aroma Lite).... Get some and give it a try and see what you think

  10. This is a new coconut wax available at Northstar Country Candle Supply. It is VERY EASY  to wick and has throw fragrance really well at 10%. The owner has formulated this wax himself. The description is says it 's comparable to Accu-Pure Coconut 83, IGI 6046 Coconut/Paraffin, and Virgin Coconut Soy meaning EC26. I find it superior to all of these waxes.

Usually around 48hrs if I’m just testing wicks

You won't get an accurate wick test this soon after pouring.. you need to wait for the wax to harden and recrystallize - this is called polymorphism. Wait 2 week after you pour and you'll get a much better burn and the wicking will be easier. When you test as soon as you are, the wax is still way too soft so it melts faster and a wick that will be perfect in 2-3 weeks cure, appears to be too hot.

I’m still having trouble finding a good wick for my Ecococo wax container candles. I use a 8.5cm diameter 30cl glass with 6-8% FO.

Tried the Eco 14 but the flame height was far too big , thought I’d try the Eco 12 but the melt pool was too small and I got tunnelling after 4 hrs of burning.

Tried the Stabilo 16/18/20 but again I had issues with tunnelling even after 4 full hrs burning. Tried the Stabilo 22 but suddenly the flame was too big after the 2hr Mark.

Tried the TCR 33/18 but the melt pool was way too small then sized up all the way to the 36/18 but again it left bits on the sides after 4 hrs of burning.

Should I just give up on Ecococo wax ? I really don’t want to it’s a wax I’ve had the least amount of problems with like smooth single pour tops and a good hot / cold throw. Most of the wicks ended up with mushrooming even with regular trimming so idk I’m at my wits end with this.

Any suggestions for other coconut waxes / wicks I should try would be appreciated.

How long are you curing before you test?

    Hi!

I'm quite new to the candle-making community (<4 months), and brand new to this forum, and look forward to entering this space with an open-mind! I'm in the process of developing my formula and process still, and I have a somewhat rudimentary question: How exactly do I mix/combine multiple waxes for the same formula?

For example (not my actual formula😞 if I'm combining Coconut-83 (190F-200F pour temp) at 75% with SP-487 (175F-185F pour temp) at 25%:

    1. At what point in the process do I combine my two waxes? For instance, do I combine them in their "flake form" (i.e., prior to melting)? Or, do I combine them once the wax is melted (i.e., pouring 25% of SP-487 into 75% Coconut-83)? Or, do I pour them both - separately - into the vessel?
    2. Considering, and accounting for varying pour temperatures, how could combining my waxes incorrectly negatively impact the candle quality? For instance, in the example above, the pour temps are different and do not overlap (Coconut-83 is 190F-200F and SP-487 is 175F-185F) - how do I account for the different temperatures during the mixing process?

I look forward to hearing feedback! Open to all comments/suggestions/ideas!

    Thank you!

the SP 487 is a palm wax which needs to be melted to high temps- over 200 just like the coconut 83 from accublend. Put both waxes in your melter at the same time and melt together ..POUR temps are strictly for asthetics, and this blend should be poured hot.. heat 215-225, add scent immediately, stir 20-30 secs and pour.

I spent a while testing a blend with both 4630 and 4633. I found that 4630 was a little on the sticky side compared to 4633. Would you say the MP-117 has that sticky consistency? Out of those 2 I mentioned, which one is it more similar to?

LilFirecracker, the MP-117 is most like the 4630 or Problend 400
