  1. Here we go again.  I have someone asking for a mahogany scent.  Has anyone tried Fillmore's Mahogany Teakwood?  Or is there another company you would recommend?  I mention Fillmore because I have to order from them anyway.  I hate men's cologne fragrances so have steered away from mahogany.  I use C1 soy wax although this customer wants aroma bead ornies made up with the fragrance.

  2. @coffeebean In C1, I got an unbelievable throw with Midwest Fragrance's French Toast.  I may have to blend with something as I'm not sure others would like it.  Also good throw with their Cocoa Butter Cashmere, Cranberry & Clove, Strawbery Pound Cake, and Cotton Candy Dreams.  The Cotton Candy was for a special order and now customer doesn't want it.  If you want it, I will send it to you free.  You just pay shipping.  I have quiet a few samples I haven't put in wax yet.

I did not like the smell of Sweater Weather and many others that were too much like a man's cologne.  What have you found has a good hot throw?

  3. Hope this is ok for sharing a website and info on a business like this.

I've started testing fragrances from Midwest Fragrance (https://midwestfragranceco.com/collections/frontpage) last year.  Have found a number of oils that work with my C-1 soy in wide-mouth pints.  Trying to stay with my Premier wicks so maybe their other fragrances that I passed on would work with another wick.  But I'm also starting to test double wicking with Premier 725 wicks which may be the answer.  It is run by a young couple who have their own candle company as well.  Now they are slowly expanding into a few more items for chandlers.  I like the fact that they have 2 oz. bottles for approximately $2/ounce.  Free shipping on orders over $149.  Once in awhile they have a free shipping deal as well.

Yes, this happened. NG sold (out) to WSP. Plan accordingly especially with processing and shipping times. Prices went up again and people are being charged insane amounts for shipping...in some cases being charged twice! *shudder*

Wholesale Supplies Plus has priced itself out of my market.  Besides, I have ordered from them multiple times in the past but my account says "no orders".  Had problems logging into another fragrance website after they took that company over.  Just venting a bit here. . .

  5. For ME, I cure for two weeks without a wick.  I have narrowed most of my scents to three sizes of wicks.  So after two weeks, I poke a hole with a scewer to the bottom of my jars, and start with my middle-size wick.  I note hot throw and temperature of jar throughout the day eventually switching out wick if too hot or not hot enough.  If not much of a hot throw, I give up on the fragrance unless it is something I need for a special order.  Now there are probably plenty of reasons I don't get a hot throw, but I only pour one test jar per fragrance unless it is, again, a special order.  OR if I really love the scent and want to add it to my line.  With waiting two weeks to cure, then pouring candles to sell, waiting another two weeks, I just don't have the desire to monkey with fragrances that don't work the first time around.  Also, I test every order of wax that I get.  If I waited more than 6 months to burn, I probably wouldn't be able to get the same wax lot.

There is another way to switch out wicks using an apple corer which allows you to use a wick sticker.  It is in a post by @TallTayl.

  6. I'm in an antique/craft mall with a vendor selling pint soy candles for $10.  Then the owner of the mall has a line she buys and has one lit all the time which is RIGHT THERE when entering and checking out.  I do a little more to my jars to attract customers and hope the fragrance hooks them. ;)  Not the only place my candles are for sale just happy to sell some to get repeat customers.
