  1. Thanks Fern I am going to try it. I am going to get samples of the Joy Wax and the IGI 4627 to see if either of these waxes are the ones I'm looking for. I am also going to get some OK6228 (recommended by the lady I bought my molds off of ) and some Ecosoy pillar wax. Any other recommendations are welcome, I'm a newbie and willing try anything!! I will let everyone know what the outcome is once I do them. I'm thinking messy!
  2. No never to late, I keep checking back for updated help. Everyone keeps telling me either NG's Joy Wax or IGI 4627. I am going to get some of both hopefully it's one of them. The only thing that puzzles me is how the heck they got it out of the mold since it's so soft. When I touch it, it seems like it would just squish. I have a heck of a time getting the IGI 4625 parrafin blend out. Mine doesn't have a slit on the side like I see some are made now. I was thinking of maybe adding a 50/50 of IgI 4627/ecosoy pillar or Joy wax/ecosoy pillar. Would it make it more stiff to get out of the mold but still keep the good scent throw? Or will I mess up the wax all together by doing that?? I don't know much yet, I keep trying and reading everyones past forums. I'll get the hang of this candle thing yet!!
  3. Thanks guys!! I am so happy I found this forum you are so much help for us newbies!! I will see if I can get samples of these waxes and see if I can find one that I like. I really need to use the electric candles right now instead of burning. I watch 2 young children (1 mine) during the day and so afraid they will get burnt on the flame or spill my tart warmers on themselves. They are in places they shouldn't be, but 3 year olds are just unpredictable and mine is starting to climb to get into cupboards now. So I am off to find some wax. Thanks again for all your help!!
  4. Thanks maybe I'll try some. I does seem like it would be very soft and hard to work with and hard to explain I have never seen this wax in any candle that I have bought before, it is very greasy to the touch and if you rub it you can actually see that you kinda smeared it like spreading cream cheese on something, and you have to wash your hands after touching it or they feel like you have grease on them, weird. The ones I did are very hard compared to this one, sometimes I wonder if they are too hard and the bulb can't get the wax hot enough to burn the scent. I just love walking into my bedroom and smelling this candle. So I'm willing to try anything recommended. Thanks!!
  5. I used the IGI 4625 (preblended) I did add some vybar to it (I followed the package instructions on the vybar, I think the package said 1 tbsp per lb of wax) because it said it helped eliminate bubbles and enhance fragrance. I did pour at 200, because the lady I bought my molds off of said that was why I was getting bubbles and that I wasn't pouring hot enough and the wax I'm using she didn't like when she used it, and said to try another wax. But I don't know which ones are good waxes for throw.
  6. No, I only have Eco soy for container candles. So I'll have to hope someone gives me some good advice on some different wax or knows which wax this might be. Thanks for your help though!!
  7. I used 1 oz. to 1 lb of wax the first time I tried them, then this time I tried 2 ozs. to 1 lb of wax.
  8. I am still a newbie to candle making and I purchased molds to make my own electric candles (with the 5 watt silicone bulb) for my home. I tried IGI4625 from BCN. I don't have much of a scent throw unless you get right up and smell them. And it leaves bubbles and pits in my wax that makes it not look so nice, so I iced the ones that I did do. But still the scent throw really isn't what I want. My sister purchased one already made for me at christmas of carmel pecan and it really smells up my room. I was wondering if someone may know what kind of wax was used if I explain it. I thought maybe soy but I thought you couldn't use soy in the electric candles and I did do some container soy candles and they feel alot harder than this wax. But here's the texture/feel of it. It is like a very greasy type feel that if you touch it it leaves like a vasoline on your fingertips. You can cut it with a knife or put your finger nail threw it very easily. Kinda reminds me of a stiffer crisco. And the scent throw is amazing!! Anyone that knows about different waxes I could try would be greatly appreciated. I really want a good throw to smell up the rooms in my house and am having no luck. I made 3 so far and just can't smell them and they are Amish Harvest scent from Peaks.
  9. I am also having the same exact trouble, Pinholes and Bubbles toward center and top!! So frustrating. I did mine at a lower temp (180) then tried pouring at a higher temp (200) and the first time it worked, but my mold like someone else stated was already warm for the next batch. But this time I did cold mold and I poured at higher temp (again at 200) and it did it got bubbles and pinholes again. So I am going to try the molds in the oven on the next batch. I am starting to think the same about not having the mold warmed up. I just didn't know if you could put the silicone molds in the oven. If this doesn't work could it then be the mold??
  10. Oh THANKS so much!!! I am using parraffin for my electric candles and soy for my tarts. I didn't want to shut everything off just to go get a scale. I am so dumb on measurements, it's a wonder I can cook. LOL Now back to making some candles. Thanks again for your help!!!
  11. My scale broke today. I was wondering instead of running out to get one if you can use a measuring cup to measure out the wax for 1 lb? Like liquid weight? And how do you do figure it out?
  12. No I didn't take any of the first batch. I should have. The burgundy really looked nice with the white icing drizzled on top with the white bear behind it. I will of the next ones though. I am just waiting on more wax and scents. I am doing one for each room in my house.
  13. Here are my results from this wax in case anyone is interested. I tried IGI 4625 in my first attempt to make the electric candles because they were out of hurricane wax where I ordered from. They do show light threw the candle as long as it is a lighter color(white, vanilla). Darker colors (burgundy, navy, hunter) don't show the light threw but if your silicone bulb is short enough you can see the tip of the bulb and it still looks cute. They turned out O.K. for my first time. I put the candle on a plate with 5" little bears (not dipped) sitting behind the candle with a 5 watt silicone bulb. I only had a little trouble with small bubbles in the wax once I took them out of the silicone molds, I was pouring at the temperature the wax said to which was 185. I then took everyones advise and poured hotter around 200 and there were still bubbles but not as many, so ended up pouring white wax over the top of them so they looked like icing dripping down over them. I plugged them in for a week but I had a cold that week and could barely smell them myself. But my friend said hers smells great. And my other friend said hers smells great and its still in the plastic bag I wrapped them in. Thanks too all for your help!!:smiley2:
  14. JS Butter Rum does smell up the house but it has too much sweetness for me, I don't care for alot of sweet, kinda makes me sick. I wonder if the candle company renamed their scent and it really isn't Butter Rum? And it didn't smell that bad with almond, but I added only a small drop. Well I am trying Peaks and BCN well see if I get it the one I'm looking for this time. I hate when you smell something you really like and just can't find it. My nose is stuck on this one. LOL
  15. I think it would be more rum?? The one I got from JS is more sweet smelling, kinda smells like butterscotch candy. I tried mixing some almond in it with no luck. Thanks to everyone for your responses, I was thinking of trying Taylored Concepts next but will also try the other companies. Thanks
  16. I am looking for a Butter Rum FO. Anyone know which supplier has the best one? I tried JS but it just isn't the Butter Rum I'm looking for. I have a candle from Thompson Candle Co (it smells so good) and wanted a Butter Rum close to that one. I don't see alot of suppliers that carry Butter Rum though. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
  17. There are some small holes in the mold itself. But the small bubbles are in the candle. I put a picture (I think it worked). The lady I got the mold off of said to try pouring at 200. So I will try again.
  18. Well the ones I redid have bubbles and holes also. Now I am wondering if it is the mold. I read somewhere if you mix the silicone too much it will cause bubbles. I looked at the inside of the molds and there are alot of bubbles. Guess I'll contact the maker.
  19. Well I poured at 185 like recommended. Haven't taken them out of molds yet. But I did pull them over a little to take a peek inside and it looks like they are still there. But I will take a look once I can get them out. Oh, I hope this works they are for Xmas gifts and I would be embarrassed to give them. If the holes are still there could I whip the wax with a mixer and grubby over top to cover the holes? Just make them look extra grubby?
  20. Tried to put on a picture but can't figure it out. But they are like a whole bunch of very tiny bubbles all over candle (where it touched the mold) makes it look dull, and whitish looking. And some are like bubbles that popped and left a small pit.
  21. No, I didn't tap the mold. I thought it would spill since the molds are so flimsy. And I think I poured to low of temp. I read the wax info again while on here and it said pour at 185 and I poured at 150. So that could be the problem. I am going to try again in a couple minutes. Will the scent not be as strong since I have to redo them?
  22. I tried some electric grubby candles using silicone molds and IGI 4625 pillar blend wax and they have tons of tiny bubbles all around them. It makes them not look nice at all up close. Am I doing something wrong. I don't think it's the molds cause the first one came out a little better than the second one which is covered in the tiny bubbles. What am I doing wrong or how can I get rid of these bubbles. Please help. Thanks
  23. They have ivory at Bitter Creek North. I just ordered some there. :smiley2:
  24. Thanks Breanna, at least I know now. I will go with a straight parrafin next time. You have to add additives to the straight parrafin wax when using, right? I am so glad I come here. I try to read as much as I can on wax, fragrances, etc. You guys are so helpful on here. I am very grateful for all of your help and advice in my beginning of candlemaking!! Thanks to all!!
  25. You could be right. This is my first time making them. They are actually for myself and for family members for Christmas. I am just looking for some primitive decor and good smelling scents for my house so I am not too worried about traslucency in this batch. I just wanted to make my own. I love to get into crafting my own stuff. So thought I'd try these, they look easy enough. I have only used soy before and all these different waxes had me puzzled. LOL I am going to try hurricane wax next time. I won't tell my family members if you don't. LOL
