  1. Do we need any type of insurance while we are making candles but not yet selling them? How about if we just make them for family and friends but do not sell them?
  2. We are planning to "make" lotion using a base and adding fo's and eo's. Do we need any insurance? Or can we just use a warning label?
  3. Are there any EO's that should NOT be used in lotion or any other B&B products?
  4. Is there anywhere in/near MN to find some supplies (bases, FO, EO, bottles) for lotion? Shipping these days is bad, so it would be nice to find a supplier withing driving distance, or even just a bit closer so that shipping is a bit lower.
  5. So I want a soy lotion base that is made with lipids, not proteins or hydrogenated soybean oil. Any reccommendations?
  6. Just wondering if anyone has mixed EZSoy with C3? How much of each? And what temp to pour at? Since C3 is suppose to be poured hot, and EZ is suppose to be poured cool. EZ is cheaper, but I'm having better luck getting full melt pools with the C3.
  7. I let the first test burn for at leat 3-4 hours, with no luck. And the hangup is still there even after burn #2 and #3. Guess I'll just keep tryin!! Or maybe I'll try some CD wicks and see if I have any better luck with those. I want to use ECO wicks though, since they are coated with veg wax.
  8. I've poured quite a few EZ soy candles now with just fo...no color yet. I'm using a 8oz jj (decorative ones with the fruit shapes embeded in the jar..not sure how to explain). They are 2.5 or 2.75" at the widest, I can't remember exactly. I've used Eco 6, 8, 10, and 12 and can't get a full melt pool with any of them. On the other hand...I poured some C3 in a couple of those jars and got a fmp with both a Eco6 and an Eco8 withing 3 hours (Eco8 had a little deeper mp). So whats the deal? Is EZ Soy harder to wick, and harder to get fmp's? What sucks is I only have 10 pounds of C3...but I have 50 darn pounds of EZ Soy, so I'd really like to get the EZ soy to work.
  9. How long does C3 have to cure before a test burn?
  10. OK...so I burnt that candle a few times now...a few hours + each time...terrible!! Tunneled right down the middle...over half the wax left around the edge. Oh..and the wick ended up just mushrooming eventually. It didn't have too bad of a throw though......glad it was free, especially since only half of it burned!
  11. This scale is from Old Will Knott..It says its for candle/soap makers....Is it precise enough for weighing scents, etc? My Weigh KD-7000 Multi-purpose Weight Scale The KD-7000 is a fantastic postal scale or food scale. It's also the best scale on the market for candle makers and soap makers! Have ya' ever messed up your scale's weight display with foods, candle wax, or acids when they drip down on your display? That's not a problem anymore... if ya' own a My Weigh KD-7000. The KD-7000 has a hinged clear acrylic shield that covers the weight display. The gunk that would normally foul up your display runs onto the SHIELD... instead of your weight display! When ya' can't read the display anymore, just clean the display shield (it's easily removed), or pitch it out and stick a new one over the display (we'll have inexpensive replacement shields available on our site shortly). Here's what ya' wanna' know about WHAT YOU'RE GONNA' BUY: The KD-7000 WEIGHS IN 4 DIFFERENT MODES! CAPACITY: POUNDS/OUNCES: 15 LB 7 OZ POUNDS: 15.450 LB GRAMS: 7000 G KILOGRAMS: 7.000 KG RESOLUTION: POUNDS/OUNCES: 0.1 OZ POUNDS: 0.005 LB GRAMS: 1 G KILOGRAMS: 0.001 KG
  12. I'm messed up then...I thought I needed to wick UP to get bigger melt pool. And I thought the drowning out was due to trimming the wick too short. @#$%^&* Just a beginner here....thanks for the info!
  13. So whats the rule on scent names on your candle labels? Do all scents have to be renamed...or can you call them what your supplier calls them? Or are there only some that need to be renamed?
  14. Where is the nearest place to central Minnesota to get some C3? I thought BCN sold it, but I looked now and don't see it on their site.
  15. I thought when I looked a while back that BCN sold C3....now I looked and they don't....hmmmmmm....maybe I'm mistaken.
  16. I got a soy candle as a gift today, so of course out of curiosity had to burn it right away. The wick looks like it splits right down the middle. (rather than curling like an eco wick does)...what kind of wick splits down the middle? It sure had a nice even/steady flame (thought it never did get a full melt pool...how dare she sell these!!...I bet us candle makers are pickier about our candles (and others!), than any candle consumers are!!)
  17. I just poured 2 more today with Eco10 and 12...maybe I shoulda tried another Eco8?
  18. What will happen if you use too big of a wick? How can you tell if your wick is too big and you need to wick down?
  19. So I tried the reccommended Eco6 and Eco8 with poor results.......10-12 a little better...14???? 14 seems like it should be way to big for a 8oz jj. Oh...I'm using ez soy.... And how short/long should you trim an ecowick before burning?
  20. Is there anywhere that sells sample packs of eco wicks?
  21. Anyone have any experience using EZ Soy with Mill Creek FO's?
