I have been making candles for about a year now and am heading in the direction of wickless. I am on the fundraising committee for our local Greyhound Adoption group where our mission is to place this beautiful breed into as many responsible, loving forever homes as we can. For each one that gets a home, there are countless others that do not!

  1. Several months ago I placed an order for $400.00 worth of the dual jar/melt warmers from Levine to get free shipping. I sold some of the warmers for the holidays and a couple came back to me as defective. I tested the balance of my shipment and found four of the perhaps 40 warmers I purchased did not even warm up at all.Levine was very accomodating and said they would credit my next order if I told them how many defectives I had, but I felt it was partly my own fault too as I did not open and test right away when I received the shipment. I did open the boxes to check for smashed items, but not electrically defective. Once I realized what was happening, I took the time to open each one and plug them in to be sure they worked before I sell them.It was such an embarassment to sell something defective that was brand new out of the box! Just be sure to check your shipment ahead of time.
  2. I would like to buy my daughter who is 25 a complete melt and pour soap kit for her birthday in March. Can anyone direct me to an online store that sells a very comprehensive kit?
  3. Good question....of which I do not have an answer. This might be something you would ask an accountant being it would be a different country. I would think my concern would also be the customs inspections of the product you would probably be exposed to at the border. One other off topic item of interest....I have a friend in Canada who shipped me some items to be used for a fundraiser at a silent auction. She had to be certain to list on the customs form that it was a gift with no value. She said that if a value was listed on the package, it would have to be taxed. In most cases customs just lets them go through, but on the occassion that they would open the package for inspection and found it to be something other than a gift, taxes would be due. This sounds like you might want to do a bunch of research before getting into this just to be sure you are doing everything by the customs rules. Where the wholesale taxes are concerned, I have no tax liability on wholesale orders. The liability for the collection of taxes falls on the shoulders of the final consumer of the product. It would be double dipping by the tax maneth if I had to pay tax on the items, and the ultimate consumer on the other end would also be paying the tax upon purchae of the product. That is why when wholesaling, you must get the tax certificate of the business you are selling wholesale to at the time of sale. It's your proof that you made the sale and are not liable for the taxes. Please post what you find out about your potential Canadian account. It would be interesting to know what the rules are.
  4. When I sell wholesale here I need to get a signed ST-119 tax form from whatever person or group I am selling wholesale to. This exempts me from collecting and paying sales tax to the state as the responsibility now falls on the shoulders of the purchaser. This Certificate must also be kept on file for several years just in case I get audited. Without it, if I get audited, I will have to pay sales tax on the items sold.
  5. I just downloaded a catalog from Royal Aromatics which is totally overwhelming with their choices! I just received loads of free samples in three catagories and will be working them into wax as soon as the holiday rush is over. Many of these samples OOB are just amazing! Anyway, their list does contain Orange "Essential Oil" in addition to synthetics. Not sure how it is, but it's worth a look see. http://www.royalaromatics.com/
  6. I absolutely agree. I just bought the basic Quickbooks software and enter my data and hired an accountant to decipher and place things where they need to be. I take it to him on a jump drive quarterly, he does what he needs to do by making any amendments and sends me home with the correct information to load back into my software. He said that filing my quarterlies, keeping me inline (lol) and doing my taxes at the end of the year will be about $300.00 at year end. I cannot tell you how much I have learned from him in just the couple sessions we have had together already!
  7. I just ordered a tall wire spinner rack from this company and should be receiving it later this week or Monday due to the holiday. The spinner rack here was $10.00 more than another site I was on, but the hooks for it were .30 ea here compared to .69 ea on another site. This company was cheaper overall for what I was looking for at the moment. I also saw a lot of nice acrylic counter / table top diaplays too. I think I will be back for more stuff when I can afford to purchase more. http://www.insightmerchandising.com/index.htm
  8. That is called a "Reverse Search Directory" and anyone who has a phone number listed in a phone book is fair game!!! There are still many sites out there that give this information for free. You would be shocked at how many people I can find just by looking at their screen names and profiles because they fail to realize that just tiny snippets of "real" information which they reveal online can be used to find them. Be safe and be internet savy. There are a lot of creeps out there that know how to get what they want about you and it's all right at their fingertips! Some people just never think twice about revealing information and in today's world and really should.
  9. We had the same issue once while ordering a computer printer. Didn't check into a business before buying and the same thing happened. We enede up turning the investigation over to the credit card company and canceled the card because we worried that it would be used by the web owner for something fraudulent. I found the link below to be helpful too. I found the company we purchased from on that site after the fact with nothing but bad reviews. Good luck, hope you all get your money back. It's an awful feeling to be taken advantage of!
  10. The best way to describe the taste is...perfumy! But it's addicting.
  11. Do you have any CVS Drugstores in your area? That's one of the major drug store chains that carries them here in Western New York. I wonder if you searched them up if they would give merchant listings by state.
  12. I just got some of the zipper bags from PaperMart to put my samples in for ornies. I use the plain polypro bags for my melts and just put my labels over the top of them. The zipper bags are more expensive. http://www.papermart.com/templates/75-0-40.htm#GO_75040
  13. Thank you...and yes...I still buy them...never outgrew that candy!
  14. I would first freeze it with an ice cube to scrape whatever I can get off first, then lots of paper towels and a warm iron. It may yake some time, as you will have to keep going over it until you can absorb all you can get.
  15. Does anyone remember Violets Candy? The candy that tasted like it smelled? What are my chances there is a quality oil out there that smells just like it??
