  1. Thke child insert goes directly into the mother cup and does touch the bottom. If you just use the child insert - glass or plastic how does the customer replace the used tea light without a hassle? Also, thank you for the tip. I took the mother cup out and heated it after I removed the majority of the bubbles and it worked like a charm. Thank you again.
  2. Can you help? I made a couple of forever candles for gifts and am having a bubble problem around and under the glass tealight cup that holds the tealight insert and takes away from the look of the candle. Suggestions? Thanks, B2S
  3. Does anyone know of a gel/candle show in the Midwest? I live in Wisconsin and would like to see other peoples' work and ideas and actually talk to some gel candlemakers? Also, how can I cut down on bubbles on my glass embeds? I tried heating the embed before placing it - too many bubbles around it. Also, the goldfish I used were more yellow than orange - any ideas on a good source for this? thank you B2S
  4. No it is not a double boiler just a very heavy cast aluminum. I will look into the presto pot. I was looking at something that had a drain-type spout for just drawing out the melted gel to avoid some of the pouring mess. Also, you can melt quite a bit of gel at one time. Thanks for the help.
  5. Thanks- I'll check out Michaels next time I go to the big city. Anyone know how to turn my pressure cooker canner into a gel melter. What type of spout/pipe fitting goes on the bottom, how far from bottom. when you heat the gel up does the heat unclog the drain valve? I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has done this - pros and cons. My current method is really a mess. Thanks. B2S
  6. Anyone know where I can get small glass rectangular containers? I purchased one at Walmart - called a votive container - 5 3/4"longx2 3/8 tallx3 7/8" wide. No brand on the bottom. It does not have a cover. Any ideas?
  7. I have gone back and read the old forum ?&A. Learned a lot. Question: How do you seal sand and is it worth using beach sand that has been sifted and then sealed or are you better off using craft sand? Do you recommend sealing craft sand, gravels , etc. Also, can I use my now cloudy, unscented gel for home use? Thanks.
  8. Cheryl, you really didn't sound harsh= I know that safety is the no 1 factor here. I also know that the more I do with the gel, the more I need to know and I won't sell anything unless I am sure about the products. Thank you for your help. B2S
  9. thank you, Vicky. I guess it is trial an error .
  10. Some of the gel candles I made yesterday are cloudy - no fragrance added to them. Some had small silk flowers and were clear, another was not. Some seascape were clear others not. Why the variable? All seascapes had same shells and sand. Help!( Does regular beach sand matter)
  11. Sure the wicks seem to drift if I am using a short wick. For example, on a short wick, do I let the gel cool a bit and then run a wire in and then place the wick. I ended up with a mess today trying to place the wick in among some silk flowers. I've read that wicks that go all the way to the bottom of the candle should have a glass bead on to stop the burn.
  12. I started out making seascape candles, votives and the champagne candles.I have wick issues - and I don't understand the wick sizing chart I printed out and when I read the forum, I also don't know the most of the abbreviations for candle terms. Can you advise?
  13. I posted a message earlier, but don't see it. So I'll try again. I saw my first gel candle at a Christmas party and was in awe. Since then, I have looked everywhere in my area and could not find one. So I made a few and being currently unemployed, think this might help. I would appreciate any advice you folks might have re: making gel candles and selling them. They are really beautiful. Thanks
  14. It sounds like you were having a really bad day. I am new to gel candlemaking to everytime I make one, I find I'm in for a real surprise (sometimes good, a lot of times not) Imagine my surprise when I looked at my candles and saw all this white stuff from the coated wicks. Back to the drawing board! I just read about self-trimming wicks - do you know anything about them. Oh- I put all my self-coated wicks in the oven to melt the wax -that'll teach em.
