  1. What does it look like to you? They have many different shapes.
  2. Any ideas how such multiwick candles could be made?
  3. Every now and then articles come up that any product containing vegetable shortening is a poison, thus we don't have such products as Crisco, even margarine is not made from vegetable shortening and water for a long time. Not sure about petrolatum, will have to check for its availability. Dictionary says that petrolatum is how Americans call Vaseline, I think its not true, because I did check unscented Vaseline contents and they don't even have petrolatum. According to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petroleum_jelly) it can have many other names. If I find it, do you happen to know approximate formula for its usage with paraffin?
  4. I forgot to mention coconut oil which is also available here. Its not very solid at room temp, is it good substitute for vegetable shortening?
  5. No, I was asking if I can substitute vegetable shortening with solid palm oil or palm stearin. Here we dont have any local vegetable shortening suppliers, nor any wax blends for that matter.
  6. According to this link (http://www.howtomakecandles.info/cm_article.asp?ID=CANDL0401) (see 2nd formula below), one needs "vegetable shortening" for making container candles with paraffin. "Vegetable shortening" is hydrogenated oil, which is not very accepted for use in our country, thus I cant find supplier for it. Instead I did find supplier for palm oil (MP 36C) or palm stearin (MP 50C), both being solid at room temperature. I wonder if these are good substitutes for "vegetable shortening" and which one is better? Also, while we are at it, is soft microcrystaline wax really needed for this formula?
  7. Yes, exactly. I wonder what does change if one increases or decreases some dye proportion.
  8. So, using base colors one can mix different colors and shades. Do you happen to know any color simulator to show what color one will get mixing base colors on certain proportions? (something like RGB picker in IT)
  9. Can you give me a link? We dont have Walmarts here And Google for "presto" gives zounds of local coffies.
  10. Sorry for a dumb question, but what is a presto (image reference)?
  11. Yes, that is 50 m "cubed", that is approximately 5x5x2,5 (or 25 square meters and 2,5m height room)
  12. Have talked to plastics person and they told that they were using polyacetal (POM) to make candle molds. Its a pitty that this industrial plastic is ~3x more expensive than plexiglass and also no scraps available.
  13. Thanks, found it (thing is that people may not believe PDF sent personally, not downloaded from reputable source).
  14. I am just saying. Because if anyone would quote this information, result would be scary. Here is why: 50x50x50m equals 125 000 cubic meters. Normal 50 square meters room is about 50x2.5m that is 125 cubic meters. That is a 1000x difference. Meaning that burning just 1 candle in a 50 sq. m room, emission concentration would still be 33x times bigger than in 50x50x50m
  15. There is local plastics producer making all kinds of plastics not only plexiglass, and they have scrap pieces at low prices. If I only knew which one to pick. I think that teflon impregnated adhesive foil could help me here if everything else fails.
