Candy, thank you so much for your reply. I wick to leave a shell and don't experience blow outs. On rare occasion the candle burns straight down with a perfect circumference, which is why I'm perplexed as to why it doesn't always do that. Pix of how they burn...

Hello! I posted about this several years ago but thought I'd repost for new insight: I continue to struggle with uneven burning palm wax pillar candles. Randomly a candle will burn nicely straight down the center, but this is rare. I use feather palm wax from Lone Star Candle Supply, fo, PK wicks and a small amount of palm steric/candle. Any ideas?? Huh, interesting...when I burn my square palm pillars, cracks often appear on the top sides of the candle as it burns further down, I figured it was due to the wax's hardness and lack of flexibility, different from paraffin and soy.

Thank you for the reply! I have found that with the inflexibility of palm wax, the steric aids in preventing cracks as the candle burns down. This may not be the case with circular candles but I use square molds.

Hello! I have decided to experiment with tortoise shell pillar palm wax. I am using Peak's brand with approximately 15g of palm steric/lb and 1oz/lb of fragrance. I poured at 210-220 (did I pour too hot?) and also warmed the mold but did not achieved the tortoise shell design. Any advice? Thank You!

Hello All! We have been using Peak's feather palm wax for years, purchased in case quantities, and pleased with the results. However, they were out over the holiday season, which really put us in a bind, and now restocked at $10 higher than previously. I am wondering if you can advise on an alternative supplier which has reasonable cost on feather palm wax, reasonable shipping and ideally a member of the Roundtable On Sustainable Palm Oil. I am trying to move into all Phthalate-free fragrances and am stuck on Lavender. I currently use and LOVE Bitter Creek's lavender but alas, it is not Phthalate-free. I have tried, and do not care for, lavender from Peak, Candle Science, Nature's Garden and Just Scent; none have the true herbal lavender scent that I seek. Please advise! Thank you : )

KraseKelly--I use the palm steric because the rims were cracking without it. Does this happen to you? If not, are you using something else to avoid the cracking? TallTayl--I do not rotate them. Do you make this recommendation to your customers?

The photo shows four 4" tall, 3" wide palm pillars with the following ingredients: feather palm wax, 1 T. palm steric, 1 oz fragrance oil and PK-7 wick (as recommended by Wicks Unlimited), cured for 1 week. First burn I allow one hour then extinguish, all subsequent burns are for many hours. My palm pillars begin with a nicely centered circular melt pool, but about one quarter of the way down, it begins to burn unevenly, and continues to do so throughout the remainder of the life of the candle. The candles never blow out, and usually don't burn too much of the rim. HOWEVER, I have seen some very nice pix on this website of palm pillars with perfectly circular melt pools all the way down. Can anyone help me figure out how to obtain this?? THANK YOU!! :smiley2:
