Nolnah
Hi Im totally new to this and am interested in making a body mist out of this scent, since it doesn't seem to do well in Candle form and I adore it. My question is I don't specifically see body spray or body mist % so how can I tell which %to use or if this FO is OK for a body spray. Is non aerosol room spray the correct term to search for? I just want to be safe. Thanks ? http://www.theflamingcandle.com/fragrance-oil/fragrance-oil-a-z/vanilla-woods-fragrance-oil/
Moonstar
If you scroll down a little further on the link it'll give you all that information. I believe for sprays it said 7.3% ??? but double check for yourself to be sure Unless I missed something I didn't specifically see body spray - in cases like this I'd just call or email them. They've always been very nice to deal with. BTW the FO description sound very pretty Please repost after you find out the specific details . Nolnah
Thanks Moonstar I just sent them an email. Hopefully I'll get a response tomorrow. The FO is amazing, it's soft a lightly vanillay floral but it has a *bitey* kind of undertone that sadly does not come through in candles.
Candybee
Actually it says the IFRA rating is 6.35%. As a mist it would be a leave on product like lotion. Not a wash off product like soap which has the higher rating of 7.35%. Leave on products have continuous skin contact until you wash it off. Soaps tend to have a higher rating because they have a much shorter contact with skin since they are a wash off product. For example I make a body mist for a bug repellent. Its a leave on product so I have to use the IFRA rating for the particular FO or EO I am using in it to be skin safe. TG you saw that and chimed in But I see Nolnah sent them an email to double check also.
Nolnah
Thanks candybee, that info about continuous skin contact vs wash off makes sense. I didn't think of it like that. Obviously testing will need to be done but I needed a starting point. I'm so picky about scents I can see myself amassing a huge collection of body mists, lol. Nolnah
Flaming candle got back to me. So to check my math say I wanted to use 4 oz of base with 6.35% FO 4x.0635=. 254 oz?
TallTayl
That math will yield more than 4 ounces total. But that is a pretty simple and consistent way to do it. ifra measures as a percent of the entire product. Your math will be very slightly different. For body spray I would start at 1%. Clear Black
Chiming in here, but what is typically used as a base for body mists/sprays?
