KB12
For those of you who sell to the public, via craft fairs, home parties, farmer's markets, etc, do you carry insurance, in case something goes wrong with the candles that you sell?

ChrisR
I had insurance in place as soon as I started testing and giving candles to testers.

KB12
Thanks for the replies. Who do you have your insurance through, and how much is it annually?

KB12
Thank you. Unfortunately, I am only making candles at this time, so I do not qualify for that membership and insurance.
KB12
Does anyone know of an insurance provider that will cover someone who only makes candles? If so, how much does it cost?
Jcandleattic
Check with your homeowners insurance. Before the Guild, I had State Farm and it was I think $800 a year. So pricey but it didn't cover soapmaking, which is why I went with the Guild. Cheaper and covers everything I do for the same exact amount of coverage. ChrisR
Every state has different insurances so you need to start with your homeowners or renter insurance company and just start calling those in your area.

Candle guy
I have an LLC does that cover the insurance aspect?
Jcandleattic
I have an LLC does that cover the insurance aspect? No it does not. IF you run everything through your LLC like you should, then IF something happens, all that means is that your personal assets are protected, but anything under the LLC will not be if you don't have insurance. If you are not running your LLC correctly, than your personal assets are at risk also (either way, insurance or not) If you are selling or giving your products away, insurance IMO is an absolute must.
TallTayl
Many locations that host farmers markets, craft shows or faires require that they be named on general liability insurance policies of at least $1million. This covers them If, say, your tent blows over or a patron is injured by your tent or display.
