Wow!!! Is the 12oz status jar this hard to wick!!!!!

Recommended Posts

Ok I am waiting on several results to come in from testers. I am testing the 12oz status jar

Wax: 6006 mix with 10% soy

Jar: 12oz status jar heated

Fo: monkey farts .9

Wick: 60z

I was going to wait until the end but I need some feed back now. I'm on test burn #4 I've been testing 3hr wait 4hr then test again.. Ok I have not reached a full melt pool yet. The hot throw is fine.. But it has major hang up in my opinion. Should I abort the mission Or order 62z or double wick which I don't want to do. I would keep burning further down the jar. About the half way point the convection created will change everything.

Unlike many people, i don't fret about early hang up. If the flame is reasonable, and the HT is fine, don't change anything yet.

Are you saying that you do a test burn for 4 hours, then blow out and let the jar sit for 3 hours and then start it up again for another 4 hour test burn?

If that is how I'm reading it, I would say to let it sit for a few hours and starting over is creating a problem.  I always wait till the next day for mine b/4 I start another test......but that is me.  How long has the candle been cured for b/4 you did your first test burn?

Like Tall tayle said, keep going though.

I agree with TallTayl and ChrisR. You have to burn all the way down to get proper results of a test burn. You really can't tell what a candle is going to do once/after it hits the halfway point until you get there. Also, as Trapp said, you may not be letting your candle rest long enough, to get solid enough to get correct results. If it were me, I'd wait minimum 16-20 hours between burns.

Keep going and watch your results. Good luck!

From just looking at the pictures, it looks like you probably should wick up. I usually have some hang up on the sides, but it usually catches up within the second or third burn. If I'm reading your posts correctly, these pictures are after a total of 27 hours of burn time? If that's the case, I would suggest you test a couple of larger wicks (two separate candles) side by side. I have tested Eco 4, 6, and 8 (depending on the fragrance) in those jars and have had really good luck. When I test, I also wait at least 12 hours between testings. Also, you could remelt the remaining wax into another jar and retest your wick by increasing your wait time between burns. You never know, it may fix your problem.

As a customer, I would never be happy with that burn. It would seem like such a waste of wax. I would want a full mp by the third burn and if I love a candle I burn it twice a day or more if I'm home. I try and think customer and hot throw Has to be great but safe. Def full mp by third burn.

I had to go back and reread the first post here. So, this is a 12 oz jar and my guess is that you have about 9 oz of wax in it with .9 oz FO. I don't remember if Monkey Farts is a heavy FO - but I think it is.

I think the problem might be too much FO. A 6% load would be in the range of 5.4 - 6.0 ounces (depending on how you figure it). You're at a 10% load. You might get better burning results and pretty much the same hot throw with less FO. It's worth considering.

I will try that I'm still texting this jar trying to add it next year(early I hope)lol.. I've been testing on and off for a year. The problem is I want to use zinc so I have to make it work.. Lol

I use zinc wicks in 6006 (and I add a bit of 464 to the pot) so it's doable. I even got a zinc to burn a soy candle! The things we learn along the way...

i use 15% of soy  so I have to go up... the 51z did me no just at all .. I do want to play around with the 60 again... im wondering if I need to try a new wick instead of zinc..ugh I really like my zinc I don't know why but I do... im going to go down on my fo load... I read the excel could hold .9 so I pushed it... im testing 464 which can hold fo good also... im gonna try a few other mixtures too.... more money more money more money...lol
