GalaxyGirl
Hi, newbie with a question about making intricate tarts using soy. I have been testing for over 6 months, had many failures, but who hasn't lol. Anyway I've decided on using 444, because I've been getting really good results with it. It does really well in my silicone tart molds, but some of the design breaks off when removing them, I've attached pictures. Any advice on what to do to get them to come out without any little pieces breaking off would be very much apperciated. TIA
Guest OldGlory
First of all, welcome to Craft Server! There's a whole lot of experience that gathers here regularly, so you have come to the right place.Secondly, that is a lovely mold that you are using for your tarts! I hope you find the right wax for it.I am a soy wax user but I have not ventured into the world of molded pretty tarts, so I really can't help you. I recently started working with 416, all soy tart wax, which I buy in Knoxville. It gives a very glossy finish and comes out cleanly from clamshells. Sort pops out. So you might try getting the small portion and giving it a try. That's all I know about that lol.I feel sure some others will come along and give you more ideas. Belinda
Hi and as OldGlory said, welcome to Craft Server!I don't use soy, but I have used a para soy blend from KY that's a tart wax and really liked it.I don't know anything about 444, whether it's a container wax or pillar wax but if it were me, I would add a little bit of a harder wax to the wax you're using. I use all paraffin and I find when I use my molds, it's easier to get the tart out when there's more pillar wax in the mix. I like a firm tart though. When I use clamshells or portion cups, then I mix 50/50. For molded tarts I either use all pillar or mix around 60/40 of pillar and container.Hope this helps!
kandlekrazy
Yes many silicone molds work better with a container/pillar blend if you use all soy. I also find that the shallower molds release way easier and therefore less breakage.I use C3 soy container wax and add about 25% pillar wax if I'm using what I call my "sticky" molds. You'll need to experiment with your wax to find the right %.
GalaxyGirl
Thank You all, I will be trying to blend the 444 with a pillar wax, and see how that works. I'm so glad I found this group, I have learned so much from just reading, you all are very knowledgable and helpful, thanks again.
GalaxyGirl
OldGlory do you have an online link to get 416, I have been unable to find it online, being that I'm in Long Island NY, I have no local suppliers around me and must rely on making my purchases online. TIA.
