karinz40 Posted May 23, 2015 Share Posted May 23, 2015 Hi, I just got some goatsmilk and shea butter soap base rom hobby lobby and used the goat to make a couple bars of soap. OI used a tablespoon of coconut oil thinking that would help. I used a pretty color just for soap and a scent Oak Moss that I love. The bars turned out really pretty but when I used one, I felt squeaky clean but no lather. What did I leave out? Sonoma Roses Posted May 24, 2015 Share Posted May 24, 2015 I have never used the hobby lobby base, but I think it won't compare to the bases offered by soap supply companies. With melt & pour it isn't really a question of adding more ingredients, it is a ready made product, and there actually is a limit to how much you can add to the base. I have very limited experience with melt & pour, but used to make full size cupcakes, and used the no detergent base from WSP. Candybee Posted May 24, 2015 Share Posted May 24, 2015 Sonoma Roses is right. Not all bases are equal, some lather like crazy and others not so much. I don't think any bases from Hobby Lobby would match the quality of bases from a good M&P base supplier. Also, as already mentioned, some bases have a very low tolerance for additives and lose their lather quickly while others you can throw in a whole lot of additives and they still have loads of fluffy lather. The most lathery bases I have found come from Canada and Candles and Supplies sells them. I think Candlewic may be selling them too but not positive on that. I have tried many bases from lots of suppliers and these are by far the most lathery but they do contain SLS. Peaks carries the SFIC bases which are more of natural ingredient type bases if that is what you are looking for. Other supliers carry SFIC including SFIC but Peaks is the only one I can think of at the moment that carries it. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
