coachtom
Have tried a few vendors and can not get a good single wick combination. Using c-3 in 12 oz status jars. The jar should be small enough to use a single wick. Some just smolder, others are too hot. I can't seem to find a good size. Maybe its a poor quality wood wick. I do not use dye in these. The FO is at 6%. I have tried ones from Lonestar and WoodWick. Thanks!
Guest OldGlory
Why do you think a single wick should work?
kandlekrazy
I'm sorry can't help, but I have seen status jars 12 oz with 1 wood wick for sale. I've never purchased one to see how it burns, but lets hope the person making did.Maybe it's the size of the wick. Here is where I got mine, but gave up testing due to time issues. http://www.bulkapothecary.com/categories/make-it/candle-making/candle-wicks/ Edited May 3, 2015 by kandlekrazy
coachtom
Old Glory, My thought process was that every chart recommendation for this diameter jar indicates the use of one wick. I have seen candles in many stores in status or similar diameter jars with one wick. Those are only assumptions. I have only tested single wicks or wick that are doubled (back to back). I have tried several widths. I have seen differences in the quality of wicks from different sources. I have tons more testing to do but wold like to start with a quality wood wick from a good source. Guest OldGlory
Ok, gotcha. I have only tried a few sources for wood wicks, and my favorite is BCN. They also have a wick chart and I think they will probably recommend 2 wicks for the status jar you are using. My experience has been that I need 2 wicks with all the containers I use (nothing smaller than 3"). I have not seen many wood wick candles for sale, only those at Cracker Barrel. Those all have either the x shaped wick (2 wicks) or a ribbon wick.Further, I get a pretty varied burn, even with the same wicking. Most of the taller jars I have wood wicked have a very low flame after about 1/3 of the way down. And that's with 2 wicks!Good luck with your journey. ThisLittleLight
I got the ones from http://www.woodcandlewick.com/ and used 2 wicks in the 12 oz status jars in the 415 soy. They recommend combinations, and I thought that I had a decent set up, but now I'm just annoyed because they'll burn well 2-3 times, then I can't keep one wick lit. Eventually it will light after a few attempts, but it's annoying. It seems to happen with the wicks that aren't centered the best, but I'm not sure. I've been using a 3/8" crackle wick with a 1/4" premium wick putting those two together and double wicking (if you want to see a pic, I'll post one).
