Candybee
I found some tallow in the back of my fridge forgot I had. Its from last year so its got to be older than 6 months but less than a year. Still smells okay, no rancid odor. Tastes like cold beef fat with a little plastic smell. (Its from ED in its original plastic container). Should I just trash it or should it be okay to use for soaping?
Jcandleattic
Honestly don't know but in my best guess I would think it would be like lard and not really go bad. If there is no rancid smell, I would think it would be okay for soaping.
Candybee
Getting ready to make another batch of shaving soap. There isn't that much, maybe 10oz but I hate to let it go to waste so I will go ahead and use it.
8-GRAN-ONES
would think as long is it smells ok and that you have kept it in the refrigerator it should be ok I have had some for 3 years or more that I keep in the freezer and it is still good
soap_nut
I don't know the answer to that either but I had my first experience using tallow today. A friend of mine who's never made soap before brought a bunch over and I helped her with it. I can't wait to see how it turned out. It was such a simple recipe compared to the multi-oil ones I use
Candybee
I love tallow in soap! So I used what I had left and I got a little bit of fatty residue floating on top after I melted it. So I strained that off and it was fine. Soap came out rich and creamy!
