Jcandleattic
*Sigh* so I decided instead of throwing away all my old soap shreds or making confetti soap that I would do 2 - 2lb rebatches with them and just make "fuglies" that I could make soap savers for and sell at a discount at my next show. Half way into making them, the power went out for about 2.5 hours. I have no idea if they will finish cooking/melting down now that the power is back on or not. So irritating. I lost all that time doing stuff that needed to be done before I go back to work tomorrow, and was at a stand-still. Grr grr grr... Oh well. I'll let you guys now how it turns out now that the power is back on and I can try again...
Candybee
What rotten luck! Hope the soap turns out okay. I've got about 2 lbs of shreds plus about 5lb of end pieces. I've been thinking of just putting the end pieces in baggies and selling them dirt cheap like $1 a bag just to get rid of them. If I make soap out of them I would have to shred them and I really don't want to! I'd rather bag 'em and sell 'em!
Sonoma Roses
I tie the end pieces up with some nice ribbon and they sell really quickly, I always run out. The price is reduced, but usually $5.00 a stack. I know areas vary, and I don't know how much a regular bar goes for in your area, but the stack should sell for as much as a bar, unless they are banged up. I don't like the idea of naked soap, and was reluctant to do this, but they are usually gone so fast people aren't handeling them. I get the ribbon at Papermart, and it is high quality ribbon for a very low price.
Jcandleattic
I had to throw one of the batches out - there was no saving it, and the second one the bigger pieces didn't melt down, but instead of the weird brown re-batches usually get, it turned a dark grey so I'm going to call it "alternate galaxy" or something. I think I'll like the way it looks so won't have to camouflage it with a cover up. LOL I had about 15lbs of shreds and odd shaped end pieces. It was crazy. I rarely bevel my soaps now so I won't collect them quite so quickly anymore.
Candybee
Same here. I don't bevel like I used to so I'm not collecting scraps anymore. But those end pieces are piling up! Sorry that one batch didn't work out. Glad you were able to save one and use it. Are you gonna post a pic of it? I bet its not as fugly as you thought it would be. Jcandleattic
*sigh* double fail. I went to check on it, and it's 'squishy'. So either it didn't melt down good enough due to the power outage, or 1oz liquid in 32oz shreds/chunks was too much. (the soap shreds were old - some as old as 7 years, some as new as 1 year - nothing younger than a year though) So... IDK... I will leave it in the mold until Friday. LOL If I can't get it out due to stickiness it's going in the trash. If it's too hard to cut, it's going in the trash. If I can get it out and cut it, I'll let it cure and keep it. Candybee
Definitely wait at least a week or longer! I've had some rebatches that didn't firm up for about 2-3 weeks and stayed soft up until a full 6-8 weeks to be hard enough to sell/use. I assumed I used to much liquid or that some scraps were much older than others. IDK Al I do know is that what I thought was a failure just needed a whole lot of time to dry out and cure up. They lather just great and feel good on my skin. I still have about 3 of those fuglies left on my shelf from last year. I'll show you mine if you show me yours! Jcandleattic
I'll post pics once I get it out of the mold!! No need to be nervous, no one is judging, and if they are, too bad. LOL
iansmommaya
I wish you luck. The only time I tried rebatching... well, it's been sitting on a shelf for three years. I think it may be hard by now. I am sending it to my dad and a friend of his for helping with the GREAT TRUCK REANIMATION OF 2015. Someday.
