3% or 4% FO - Leather

Hi all - I have a very stupid question.  Stupid because I can just test to get my answer, but I'm curious as to peoples thoughts.

 

I have a very difficult to burn fragrance.  I have 10 litres of it because I love it and it works well in reed diffusers and in the smaller jars.  As soon as I move to a deeper jar than 2", it tends to simply stop burning after 1hr.  It gets a flame that is about 2mm high.  It literally all but stops.  Hats off though, not a sceric of a mushroom which I love!

 

I am dosing at 6%, and have gone down to 5%.  My questions is this;

 

1 - Does anyone have a leather and sandlewood fragrance that is harder to burn than a thick vanilla;

2 - if so what do you dose yours at

3 - Does anyone have a fragrance that they need to dose at less that 5% to have it burn?

4 - is it acceptable that after 1 to 1.5hrs a flame literally all but goes out, aslong as it leaves a little melt pool?

 

This candle is fragrant when it burns; but I find there is not enough hot air to thrust it up into the air, so it's just fragrant in and around the candle.... if that makes sense!

 

I'm determined to get this one right, because in the smaller candles and reed diffusers people literally can't get enough.

Sounds to me like you have to go up a wick size.

I thought that to be the case but all others are running a 2 CDN 4's and this won't get to the bottom with 2 CDN 8's.

There are fragrances that require the highest end of the spectrum sometimes. I don't have your fragrance, but I'd try it at a lower percentage with an increase in wick size and other compatible wicks too. I've had to wick a 3x3 paraffin candle with a fat 36 once because TCN had the best oil of amber in the world that wouldn't give me much of a flame till I did. Even the high end wick left me unsatisfied with the test burn, but I got a better flame than the pimple head of one. Boy I miss that Oil of Amber, I will admit ... awesome in incense, which is where its life ended up. 

Anyway, it wasn't the only fragrance I've had that has tested the limits for me. This might be one of those for you.

Yup It burns at 3% but I'm not happy with the throw haha, so I'm trying it in Soy as you have to wick higher in soy so I can go all the way up to a CDN22 comfortably.  That size wick should be able to handle the burn.  I'm working on the basis that the smaller wick didn't have enough heat in it to completely burn the fragrance.  a CDN 22 would do I hope

It's not. What type of wax are we talking about?

 

Please try to post a photo of how the wick looks after it stops burning.

What wax specifically are you using and what is the exact diameter of the jar where it is widest from side to side to the nearest 16th of an inch? Also have you tried it with no dye?

Its a 3" jar no dye.

Ive since gone to single wicking this fragrance in soy and seem to have more luck due to having to wick up.

Its just a really tricky fragrance to double wick.
