candle making mommy
I have been making clamshell tarts and haven't had an issue with the wax sticking to the bottom of the clamshell until this evening. Ive been using the same wax. I use a custom parasoy blend. I believe I got my house a little to warm today. Could that of caused the problem? candle making mommy
Im so disappointed! I've tested and tested and finally thought I had my wax the way I wanted it.
justajesuschick
I do not use clams, I use heavy oval cups but I wonder if I could still help troubleshoot. Is this an oil you have poured before? I have a few that are heavy in citrus that are harder to pop from the cup.Did you let them cool longer than usual, since your house is warmer, before trying to remove from the clams? candle making mommy
I let them cure for about 24 hours before I tried. Also I was wondering if I pour too much on the top on the clamshell, would it make it harder to get out?
justajesuschick
If my cups are poured too full, that does sometimes make them harder to remove. Do they eventually pop out or in getting them out does it leave wax in the clam or destroy the plastic? Was it all scents you poured?
candle making mommy
Yes, 3 different scents. I used Sunday brunch, baby powder, and pumpkin souffle. It is leaving a bottom portion on the tart in the clamshell. Almost like I used 100% container wax but I didn't.
candle making mommy
The clamshells were on my kitchen table and there is a vent under the table.

Belinda
If I pour too hot they're very hard to get out. I try to pour under 160, usually around 150-155. The easiest clamshell wax I've worked with, in my opinion, is KY"S para/soy tart/votive wax. I never have a problem getting the wax to release when I use their wax. Now I blend two paraffins and haven't had any problems unless I pour too hot. I always pour my clams very full, most of the time with at least one in the batch running over and making a mess! I haven't noticed that making them harder to get out. Try putting them in the freezer for a few minutes and see if they'll pop up. I've had to put mine in the freezer before and then I can push them up a little from the bottom. After that they're fine. HTH
candle making mommy
Thanks Belinda! I think that might be my problem
Ravens
If it's too warm, I put the empty container (clamshell or portion cup) into the freezer. A couple of minutes does it. Then I pour the wax. Just the initial "shock" between very warm and very cold is enough to prevent complete adherence, and the finished product pops out with no problem. Anyway, that's what works for me; hope you'll find what works for you

kandlekrazy
If it's soy container wax, 73 may be a bit warm to be making them especially if there is a heat vent directly below the table you are using.
