C3

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have decided to go back to testing with c3 , I started out with c3 but could never manage to get it wicked correctly so moved onto xcel wax and had good success with that(works well with cd wicks) but unfortunately there seems to be big differences between batches of wax so have decided to not continue.

Anyway I am trying to wick a small 60mm shouldered jar, the cdn wicks appear to work well with c3 but the smallest cdn I can get is an 8 and that's too big, I'm not liking the cd wicks too much in c3 , I can get premiers but not all sizes of premiers and I can get ecos but I've not had much luck with them as they seem to bend right over when burning into the melt pool.

So does anyone have any suggestions on what wick and rough size I should start testing with?

Hi Joannec,

C3 is a wonderful wax I have used for years and I used always the htp wicks with that wax.  It is a little tempermental but once you get the wicks figured out, you will love it.   I always poured about 150 to 159 depending how warm or cold my house was. with   You most likely will have to cap it off (another smallb pour) on top.  That never bothered me.  Being that I had to do a 2'nd pour I could then pour it at a lesser temperature or even highher. It's a great thrower.

Also I always had a problem double wicking with the c3 as it always put out black little rings on the top of the wax when burning.with the htp's.   Probably because I could never figure out what wicks to use for double wicking.   I'm sure that is what it was.  So I never double wicked that wax.  I have used cd's sucessfully with c3 but primarily stayed with the htp.

I let the candles cure too for a week or 1 1/2 weeks depending on the fragrance.  Pine scents and apples did exceptionally well and cured much much faster for me.

I don't know what a 60mm jar is.  What style and size jar is that and maybe I can help make a suggestion.

Thank you for replies :) I've never had much luck with htp wicks but I will give them another go , I do have some here that Tracey kindly sent me a while ago .

I do like the ht with the cd wicks but I find I keep getting mushrooms and this is with 6% fragrance also I noticed with the cd wicks that at first they bend beautifully and self trim but after a while they seem to get shorter and start to stand straighter losing the bend? Does that make sense? Not very good at explaining things . Forgot to say they are like small little shouldered jam jars.

2.362 inches.

Thanks Tracey.  That helps me somewhat but I'm not too good even figuring it out still.  If I know the size jar like in ounces and the style, then maybe I can help, but definitely needed the inch size you put up too. :)

Wow your candles are beautiful :) are those candles made with c3 wax? The colours are lovely .

We can not get jars like that here in the UK , our jars are boring lol.

Thank you I will try the 105 htp

Why thankyou for the compliment Joannec and yes they are with C3.   I don't do colored candles anymore because of the frosting.  Even with using a uv inhibitor, they always wound up frosting down the road.  I could never really master that problem and it never bothered anyone just me...lol  So now I leave all natural.  If you have a real light scent, you might try an htp 104, but mainly 99 9/10 of the time it was the 105 because of the square corners.

Which larger jars have you tried them in without success?  Maybe I might have used that jar too?

A picture would be great for me.....

Thank you for your reply :)

The other jar was the next size up to this so it is 2.6 inches wide and taller. I don't think I went upto a 104 though , the wicks all died or of mushroomed bad. Do you trim your wicks? And if you don't mind me asking what percent of fragrance do you use? Thank you

You know I have heard from others too out of the country that the jars they use are boring too....I've wondered about that when I've seen a post like that and was curious what you call boring jars?  Just for curiousity sakes can you put up some pictures of what you consider boring?

You know I just did quite a few different style jars these past few weeks for my shop and decided what I called ugly jars to use them because I had over 150 of them because I got them for a steal and I can tell you if you put a smashing label on them, maybe tie something real classy or pretty around the neck or even change out the lids they can be quite stunning.  I did just that myself and even impressed myself with the ugly ( or what you say, boring) lol

Haha boring jars is what I have posted above , we can only get standard jam jars here they all look like this just either bigger diameter and taller. We can get status jars but they are so expensive we are talking about $9 for a status jar. We can not get the mason or ball jars here . I love the jars you have with them lids :)

Geesh, I hope I told you right on the wicks...I went back and looked at your jars.  I thought they were the canning jars with square corners but the more closer I look at your pictures I'm thinking to myself they are round jars?  Are they?

Joannec,

The smaller one I use 1 htp 83 and the larger 1 htp 93....

I would have felt horrible if you had put a 105 into that jar as it would have been a torch.

Did you try those yet when you were testing?

Thank you for your help :) I'm going to make up 2 candles with 6% fragrance with a htp 83 and 93 , I will post pics of that's ok when they are burning , thank you

I have tried these wicks before but it would have been with 8% fragrance so perhaps that makes a difference.
