A post of frustration.....

Recommended Posts

I have been combing the board here on what peoples suggestions they have on wick sizing and went over to the BC forum that I used to post on quite often quite awhile back and I happened on a post I had put up about 6 years ago.  I thought I would copy and paste it here for a chuckle.  I remember the day I posted it as I was so aggravated and couldn't figure out for the life of me how to wick some jar and I just had a bad hair day and let it out and vented.  I was so mad and at times wanted to throw in the towel many a time.  I'm sure everyone has been there a time or 2 or more and at times still get aggravated.  I know I do.   For the new chandlers I see  joining here, I just wanted to let you know that your not alone as I've been there.  And you'll probably have many a day as I did like what I said in my post.....So here is my bad hair day post I put up.   At the time I wrote it , I was spitting fire that day.  After I put it up and got responses, some so funny....I had to laugh at how I must have looked like to everyone, but they all understood.

My post:

The topic name was "the best wick out there"

Posts: 3,143  Posted 04/20/08  #1 Well this is my conclusion to the best wick out there for the wax that you use....I have been reading and reading and reading so much on all wicks and trying to figure out for myself for the wax that I use and the jar that I use.  I've combed and combed Bittercreeks board and have gone back even a couple of years ago to posts and even have gone onto another board site reading their posts....And the boards all say the same darn thing....."to each their own"...You think oh, wow!, here is the perfect wick for me!....I think I'll try that one....so and so loves it and then even so and so loves it....so you think to yourself well, I've finally found the wick that I think will be the one! - but only to find out that another poster whos's been making candles for years has con's about that particular wick and then soon again you start coming across more negativity....now you start really getting disgusted!!!! So now you have the pros out there stating which wick is the best one and the ones that they don't recommend....And each and everyone, even though they all are talking about the same wax and even the same container, they all use different wicks!  This one says hers soots, and this one says it doesn't soot, this one says she uses 1 oz fragrance and this one say 1.25 and this one says 1.5......SO WUD JA MAKE UP YER MIND?  And then here I am reading some of these posts and just sitting here laughing to myself...And posts like this just make me even more confused!!!!!!! Like a post like this........"Well, I like this Cd becasue it has a great throw, but I also like the cdn too cause it has a great throw, but then the Rddddddddd has a good throw but not in hot, but its great in a cold throw, but then the Rdd seems to curl a bit, but doesn't curl as much as the cd, so I think I've just going to stick with the Cdn, but I'm still testing the Rdd because of the throw that I get, because I would rather have a great throw and deal with a curling wick, but then again yesterday I really liked the overall burning of the LX wick!rolleyes.gifidea.gif........Geesh, I wonder if that person has made her up her mind yet and picked her wick? rolling.gif.All you newbies!!!!Good luck is what I gotta say!  Fend for yourself!.......Man oh man!!!!! Is all I have to say! I have straight hair, but just this morning I looked in the mirror and saw my hair starting to curl?  Maybe if I twist the curl in my hair it will go back to straight?  (I just found out someone does that with a curling wick.....I'm not making fun of that, believe me.....What a great idea really!  As I'm going to in fact try that on my htp wick and see if it works.....)But I've decided that the best thing to do is go at least with the most popular and readily used wicks out there and test them and what goes for me, goes for me and that's that!  Say no more!  Fini!

And if anyone is thinking that my posts is relating to one they put up, don't think that because it isn't ....This is a canglamoration of posts from all people so it wasn't directed to anyone at all!  My post I just put up here is a "POST OF FRUSTRATION FOR ME! rolling.gif
Well, I gotta brush me teeth and get ready to go feed my horses and clean horse sh.......

Have a nice day!wave.gif

LMAO

Isn't it the truth though?? Every board everywhere will have people using different wicks for the exact same wax/jar/scent load combo. All with opposing why's and why not's. ...

For example - I've heard tons of people say they won't use zinc wicks in the softer wicks because of sooting and mushroom issues. Those are the wicks I use in my soft wax and I get no or very minimal sooting, and every now and then small mushrooms.

Same wax. Same jar. Same scent load as others'. My results - different...

Go figure...

Candlemaking is like play craps. Unless you are extremely lucky, you are gonna have some losses along the way. If you hit the jackpot, let's hope you took good notes and that you walked away with your winnings.

Making me laugh. It's not just wicks.

It's the same for wax and FOs. Someone posts and asks "what wax is the best??" "Which supplier has best fragrance of this or that??" We all respond that this wax is awesome and this FO rocks. Or the opposite - didn't like this one or.... In the next post someone says that the FOs we don't like is the best they ever used. On and on.

We all know the answer -- just order samples and get testing. Probably going to order them all anyway. :)

'Opinions are like noses, everybody has one.'  And boy oh boy, does everyone have their own opinions about every facet of candle making.  :)

Since I've been changing up things after 5 years, I've been doing a lot of online research about waxes and wicks and pour temps and cure time and on and on.  So just like I did when I first started, I'm going to figure out what works for me.  (After reading all the opinions about cure time, I dug out the instruction pamphlet from the first supplier I ever ordered from, Northstar, and sure enough, it said to let the candle made with GW444 cure for at least 12 hours.  So that's what I've been doing for 5 years and it's worked fine for me.)

But I still love to hear other's opinions about FO's.  I like the sites that have FO reviews. Even then, some Fo's get one star from one person, then 5  from another. And I'll never buy anything that smells like incense no matter how many good reviews it gets.  :)

I enjoyed reading your rant from 2008.  :)

:laugh2: Haaaaaaaaaa!!! Trappeur!!!!! TRUER WORDS HAVE NEVER BEEN SAID!!!!! Hee hee!!! It is so confusing when you read ALL the different feedback you get from asking just one question....it feels like everyone just wants you to stay confused sometimes. I am just TRYING to figure out how I missed that post at Bitter Creek?!! Thanks for the smile girl! :)
