Trappeur Posted September 30, 2014 Share Posted September 30, 2014 Ok, here is day 3 which is my 3'rd 4 hour test for the 8oz tins. This is really odd,,,,I have never had this happen to me. Day 1 and day 2 the premier wick785 and eco 14 wick were too big a wick with deep melt pools. Now today which is the 3'rd day they are slowing down and the melt pools are a lot smaller. The 785 is still too big but the eco 14 seems to be doing great and doesn't even have a deep melt pool anymore? Is that normal that that could happen? Why aren't these 2 wicks getting deeper pools like I thought they would.? Now this is really aggravating me as I thought the wick that was going to win out would be the cd 12....hmmmmm The cd 12 is still doing good. The htp 1212 isn't bad but the cd is better than this The 2 htp 41's those flames are so wimpy small and they are still hanging in there for some reason. (but again, hard to tell from the pic) If you say it's too deep I believe ya, which brings me to say I like how the CD 12 looks better than the rest. Each day you light them for a period of time and then extinguish them. Each day they are curing a little more. I am taking a series of pics with a 2 week cured 8 oz tin with 464, dye, a 790 wick and 6% fo. At the 2.5 hour mark, it has not reached the sides and the melt pool is about 1/3" deep. When it melts all the way across the melt pool will slow down on deepening because it has more surface to burn. When I get to the 3rd hour I will post pics.I keep thinking your candles didn't reach "maturity" (KOFF, LOL) before you lit them. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I started the first burn on the beginning of the 3rd day it was curing. But you see, I wasn't testing for throw purposes but testing for which wick was going to be the right one. So then what you are saying is that they need to fully cure for a week or preferably 2 weeks like I always do....and then test? Hmmmm.... So the binding of the oil and wax has to be really set together b/4 I should test for wick size? Wow, I've been lucky all this time when testing my other jars that never sat first....Thanks Old Glory. I really didn't know that. If it is harder, it will take longer to burn. It's just a theory and would sort of explain the change in your testing. I will post my pics pretty soon. And your using 790 wicks......but then you have dye in your candles whereas I don't and am using the 785. Well the final outcome was the cd12 was pick #1 The 2'nd running best was the eco 14...... They were both really close, it was that simple, so either one works for me. The premier I am still wanting to go with them, but I ran out of the next size down....but I will get one of them figured out. And yes, Ocean Gazer....I trimmed between each burning....
