Blend suggestions for 4627

Recommended Posts

For container candles? 4630 and 4633 are very similar, but imho the 4630 is softer than 4633.  If you're planning on making wax tarts, all these waxes would be way too soft.

If you really want to add a harder wax to the 4627, you may want to consider the 4786 or 4794.

I do not use the IGI 4627. My working wax(es) are paraffin.  Main wicks I use are zinc, but have also used CD and LX.

Hth some :)

Hi Boogieluv

I've tried 50/50 4627 and 4630.  It produces a lovely product.  I was using eco .75 and eco 1 in a 4" diameter jar.

It keeps the throw of the 4627 but the opacity of the 4630; and it was nice to touch.

The problem I had, and am having still with plain 4627 is; the damn things refuse to burn more than half way.  I posted something earlier in the week about this.  But that 50 50 blend does look nice and when I sent them to wicks unlimited to do test burns they suggested the eco .75 and eco 1.

Yeah I'm not great at wicking as my other posts suggest 8-)  But that is what the experts suggested for a 4" diameter.

Another great thing I found with the 50/50 mix is it sticks to the jar so much better!  I considered it our secret weapon blend until we switched to trying a new blend (for marketing purposes)

Can I ask, how deep & wide are your jars that your using for the 4627?  and what wicks are you using?

So far for the 4627, I've tried the 8oz metal tin, 3" wide and 2" tall with 8% FO and no dye with LX-20. After 20+ hours of burn time (I lost track after awhile), the entire candle burned down to the bottom. The sides are absolutely clean --looks like I cleaned it off. I did find that with the addition of dye, I had to wick up to LX-22. Only downside is the mushrooming and need to trim wick consistently between burns to avoid extra tall flames, flickering, and soot, but it could just be because I power burn my candles for at least 3-4 hours. LX-16 was good in a 7oz tumbler ( 2-13/16" wide and 2 3/4" high). ECO-4 also seemed to work in the same glass container. For an 11.5 oz tumbler (3 3/16" x 3 1/2" high), so far LX-22 is the front runner. I have yet to do extentive testing with the Premier 700 wick series so that's next on my list. In previous tests, I tried HTP and CD wicks with only marginal success.

Did you get any more recommendations from Wicks Unlimited regarding the 50/50 blend? I'd like to try it in a 9oz container (2.85" wide and 3.4" tall) and a 16oz container (3.6" wide and 3.7" high) and was wondering which wicks to start out with.

What proportion of the two waxes do you use?

4627 60%-4786 40%

12oz Madison 60z

12oz Status 60z

9oz Flint 51z

Maxi Tealight 51z

I have been trying to wick 4627 for oh maybe 3 1/2 years, I give up, try other waxes & come running back 4627. 4786 makes it a little harder & easier to wick.

It sounds to me like noone has successfully wicked the 4627, yet plenty of people must continue to buy it.  OMG I never thought it could be this difficult hahaha

There's others on the board that have successfully wicked 4627, they may not be currently reading posts.

It's the best, I hardly ever give up, so I keep trying. Very happy with the 4786 blend. Puma & Ravens taught me about 4786, but I had to add the 4627.

Did you check Aztec for the slabs of 4786, i think I remember that's the only place to buy samples instead of a case.

You can buy sample slabs, and 2lb block samples of the 4786 wax at Peaks. :)

4786 is much harder & needs two pours. But, it hardens up the 4627 perfectly. I hope you're able to get some thru one of the candle suppliers. If not, try a much larger % of 4630 to 4627. I like the 4630 also, but I might have wicked too high & it sooted. Ask Emilyspoppy for wicking help, just post on the forum & he might see it. Maybe it will get him to join us more.

OMG. I feel like its Christmas Day - my slab of 4786 just came in!!! Off to make candles! I'll post my results with throw and wicking here once I'm done. Wish me luck!

I call deliveries prezzies. Have a great time! Anything you need, just ask!
