Wicking delema

Recommended Posts

I'm testing double wicking in a country comfort jar.

Diameter at widest point:   3 3/4"

Testing the 8 oz and 26oz.

Wax:  GB464

No color - just natural

I've always used 1 wick but trying to get a more stronger throw so I'm piddling around with some wicks to double wick.

The 8oz I've got 2 cd 5's in it.  Throw is amazing but too deep a melt pool.

I tried 2 cd4's but the wicks were too small.

Is there another wick that is in between like maybe an eco?

The 26oz I have 2 cd 5's and the wicks are drowning slowly, but the melt pool is good.

Does anyone use this jar and might be able to make suggestions?

Thanks.

I don't use your jars, so take this for what it's worth.

I have been using Premier wicks in my 464 for quite a few years and I love the way they burn AND the wide array of sizes they offer. I would suggest the 795 and 798. The 798 is for a single pour up to 5" in diameter. I find that I have to wick up just a little with them.

Thankyou Old Glory.  Unfortunately the only premier I have is a bag of the 735.  I guess I'll have to order some.  Where would you suggest I get them from?

So I just single wick and see if that works, right is what  you are suggesting?

If I were to double wick, what would  you suggest in the Premier?

Thankyou.

I have some 798's that I won't use. Might also have some 795's. I also live 30 minutes away from Aztec, a source that I visit a few times a month and can buy more. If you would like to try them I'll send them to you. You can send me your address in a pm.

I would suggest trying one wick. Directions say a 798 will work in a jar up to 5 inches. If you have to wick up a bit for 464 as I do, then it should work. And if it doesn't I'd like to know so I can share your results with Aztec.

Trappeur, I have an assortment of all the sizes of Premiers...if you would like some, pm me your address and I'll send you 4-5 sizes to try. I know WickIt sends out huge sample packs of the Premiers and you just pay shipping...I paid $5 but it's been awhile. May be worth it to give them a call...866-3WICKIT

Last night I ordered sample packages of their premier like you said you love Old Glory.  Thankyou Imc for wickits address.  That was so nice for the offers for help in some wicks.  I can't wait to get them and I'll try a bigger premier like you suggested.

What I did though, since I only had a bag of the 735's and since it was for a small candle, I double wicked to test in the 8oz country comfort jar using toasted marshmallow from R. Escentuals.   I will say that this wick is a beautiful very clean burning wick but I did get a melt pool fast and too deep so I guess I would have to get a smaller wick.  The marshmallow is starting to smell now...I would compare this size wick to be like the same size as a cd5 as far as how fast it has melted the wax and how deep the pool is.   But to me it's a much cooler burning wick than a cd.   Is that correct?  The jar is not hot what so ever using 2 735's.  Now the 2 cd 5's the jar is hot.

Today I also tried 2 premier 735 in a 26oz apothecary in Celtic Moonspice.  Again a meltpool too fast.  The candle has been burning a few hours and I don't get much throw from Celtic Moonspice.  So I guess this will be a dud for me in 464 and won't order that scent again.  I know others love it and I thought it was a nice scent, but nothing I would rave about or order again...
