UGH! Oil on top of the wax

Recommended Posts

I have been making candles for about 8 years now. The last couple times I have made candles, there is oil sitting on all the tops..like when you first start out and you think more oil = stronger candles..wrong!! Anyone have any ideas why this would be happening? Depending on the oils..I use 1 to 1.5oz per pound of wax. It hasn't just been one oil..it's happened with everyone I've made. I have not changed how I make them. I use straight soy. Any ideas? I am totally stumped..and irritated! :(

Does it happen more when you use 1.5oz pp? I would back off and just use 1oz pp. Have you changed pouring temps or waxes or anything?

I tried cutting back to 3/4oz and it's still happening. Stir for the same 2 minutes I always do. I just don't get it :( please someone help!! :)

I wouldn't be surprized if its the wax itself. Sounds like you have a bad batch. It happens. Call the supplier and explain the problem. A good supplier will offer to exchange it.

Ok thanks Candybee! I don't have good luck so I'm betting against it :(

If they won't take it back you may be able to still use it by mixing it with a good batch. Thats what I did once with a bad batch of palm. I added 10% of the bad wax mixed in with the good. Candles came out just fine. It's worth a try if it works.
